Good Bye Tangerine Tv

Just got an email informing me that Tangerine TV will no longer be showing live football content (I am assuming that the audio only will still be available) and that Sky are now taking over any showing of live games. What do people think of this? My first instinct is Sky are going to cherry pick which games are going to be shown and let's face it, are they really going to be interested in showing games lower than the Championship? I don't think so. Sky aren't doing this as an effort to help the average football fan but no doubt in an attempt to increase sales of Sky Football. It won't end until the game we all love is in the hands of a couple of extremely greedy corporations.

That has pissed me off as living abroad its my only way to watch the matches!
isn't that just in the UK, i.e. midweek matches ? It says "the Club streaming service (Tangerine TV) will cease to offer domestic live video coverage of EFL matches". As Sky does not have rights outside of the UK maybe TTV will still broadcast overseas ?

Not strictly true….from next season…

Each season, Sky Sports will broadcast a minimum of:
  • 328 Sky Bet Championship matches
  • 248 Sky Bet League One matches
  • 248 Sky Bet League Two matches
  • All 15 Play-Off matches
  • All 93 Carabao Cup matches
  • All 127 EFL Trophy matches

Also the restrictions for the club streaming Sky live and international picked games in League one has been removed.

Only applies to oversees.

Don't really see an issue with all this rather than the club chasing £10(majority watch for free on Kodi sticks anyway) they'll be getting a lump sum from Sky.

Pay the £12 to Now TV and you get not only our match but Sky Sports for 24 hours which is miles better watch than TTV and listening to Chizzy coughing.

I'm pretty sure they'll still use local radio commentary (radio lancs) like they do now. Probably won't be financially viable to send there own commentary team to every game.

The Sky sports Championship red button doesn't use Radio Lancs commentary why would the BBC allow it?

It sounds like person watching a screen commentating and is fairly cheap to sort.

God to hear this and not a complete win for the Fire Stick fannies and I suggest normal fans get a VPN and support the club.

It means loads more EFL games live on Sky - but many fewer Saturday 3pm kick offs (which are not allowed to be televised live in UK). They haven’t given details of scheduling yet but it probably means more Sat 1230/1730 kick offs and maybe more Friday night/Sunday games.

Surely Sky won't be broadcasting all our midweek matches unless these are available on the Red Button?

You'd have thought so on the red button.
248 games to be shown on league 1 coverage is over 10 games each!

No big deal anyway we'll be in the Championship by then which have used the red button for a while showing midweek games.😀

If Wednesday and Birmingham are relegated, surely they will be on 46 times each and Holywood Wrexham will account for another 46!

I understand that for regular Saturday rounds they will stream 5 of the 24 EFL league one and two games and those games will kick off at 1230

To do a long distance away game will therefore become more challenging for fans when the game is switched to 1230.

I don’t think they have confirmed 1230. Nor have they confirmed that all the games will be broadcast simultaneously - presumably they’ll get more viewers if they are shown at different times.

I believe the red button will be a thing of the past and Sky are launching an EFL app - exactly how it all fits together is unknown to me at the moment.

Thanks for the info. It seems all a bit up in the air at the moment - perhaps would’ve been better if they’d waited until Sky, EFL or the club were able to announce how it’ll work in full ie ‘Full 90’ replays/highlights the day after + other TTV content.

For some of us it’s not all about ‘live’, for various reasons.

The deal with Radio Lancs to use the commentary is part of their overall deal and so therefore won't be applicable to Sky who will, as others have said, have to provide their own comms.
That said, I'd have thought that TTV will continue for those abroad and therefore if you are on a fire stick you're more likely to get this coverage than Skys.

There are freelance commentators at most EFL matches now, all the way down to League Two.

There are brokers who sell the live audio streams globally (mainly to betting apps, but also for live broadcast). And the quality is surprisingly high - I watched a Pool match in the states this year via ESPN+ and the commentary was miles ahead of BBC Lancs.
