No, full stop. Uninspired, unwanted and even more on a hiding to nothing than Appleton was with our supporters. The nealry 97% who voted no is a good indicator of feeling towards this.

What a load of shite!

Fleetwood Town

On 6 December 2012, Alexander was appointed as the new manager of League Two club Fleetwood Town.[39] Upon his arrival, Fleetwood were sat in seventh place in the league, though had recently been eliminated from the FA Cup by Aldershot Town.[39]

In his second season in charge, Alexander guided Fleetwood to promotion by winning the promotion play-offs, but was subsequently sacked in September 2015, following a poor start to their 2015–16 campaign in League One.[40]

Scunthorpe United

On 22 March 2016, Alexander was appointed as the new manager of League One side Scunthorpe United.[41] In his first full season in charge, Alexander guided the club to qualification for the promotion play-offs where they suffered a 3–2 aggregate defeat to eventual champions Millwall.[42]

On 24 March 2018, it was confirmed that Alexander had parted ways with Scunthorpe after two years in association with the club; his side had gone eight games without a win, though left the club sat in fifth place.[43]

Salford City

On 14 May 2018, Alexander was appointed as the new manager of newly promoted National League club Salford City, signing onto a four-year contract, following the departures of previous joint-managers Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson.[44] In his first season in charge, Alexander guided Salford to qualification for the promotion play-offs,[45] in which they recorded a narrow 4–3 penalty success over Eastleigh, having drawn the match 1–1, to reach the final at Wembley Stadium, where they were 3–0 victorious over AFC Fylde to reach promotion to League Two.[46]

During his second season in charge, Alexander guided Salford to the final of the EFL Trophy, though the final of the competition (which was initially scheduled to take place on 4 April 2020) was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which also resulted in the league season to be postponed.[47] In May 2020, clubs of League Two and League One voted to end the season prematurely, with the final standings being decided in a points-per-game format, which resulted in Salford finishing in eleventh place.[48] Alexander was sacked by the club on 12 October following a 2–2 at home to Tranmere Rovers which left the club fifth in the league and unbeaten in the opening five games, with Paul Scholes immediately announced as his replacement.[49]

Motherwell

On 7 January 2021, Alexander was announced as the new head coach of Scottish Premiership side Motherwell, following the departure of Stephen Robinson and replacing interim manager Keith Lasley.[51] His first game in charge of Motherwell was a 1–1 draw against St Mirren in Paisley.[52] On 10 January 2022, Alexander extended his contract with the club until 2025.[53] Motherwell managed to finish fifth in the 2021–22 Scottish Premiership, despite only winning five games after the winter break.[54] Alexander left the club by mutual consent on 29 July 2022, following their elimination from the Europa Conference League by Sligo Rovers.[54]
It's a good record - he has succeeded in every job apart from the poisoned chalice of Motherwell (the equivalent of managing Bournemouth in the EPL, but still got them to 5th place even with a terrible run). He has been out of the game for a while, I'm surprised he wasn't linked with us when Appleton was appointed. If the obligatory tattoo test is passed at the Armfield club then he might turn out to be a good appointment.

Even if he was a good manager, he's a genuine Preston legend. Would be an ever weirder one than Appleton!

Phil Parkinson has never played for or managed Preston (though he is from Chorley way).

Would take ex-Preston if it’s Brian Barry-Murphy. In general it’s not a point in their favour tho.
He admits in the Wrexham documentary that he is a Preston fan though. In all honesty, I doubt he'd leave Wrexham for anyone at the moment with what's going on at that club.

As always I will give the individual a chance - unless it’s Billy Davies!

Mid to late November is the time I usually give before I form a firm opinion.

If it were up to me right now - I’d go with Dobbie. But it’s not - and rightly so.

My faith in the manager selection process at BFC is a little jaded at the moment in light of the recent happenings. So I will sit this one out until we have a permanent appointment.

Not for me I'm afraid and I don't care he played for North end or managed the cods he's not the right fit for our club.
Probably a nice guy but we've basically had 4 managers this year counting Critchley and it has resulted in turmoil on and off the pitch.
We need a young manager with new ideas who can turn us back to where we want to be, and who the fans can identify with . UTP

Nobber ot not isn’t very relevant as far as I’m concerned. The only criteria are, is he a good manager? I personally don’t think he is and could the fans get behind him again I very much doubt it. After the Appleton debacle I hope the board consider, along with other factors if the new man would be a popular appointment. If not , like Appleton he would be in a very precarious position from day one. Whatever decision they make I hope we can all unite behind him and the team. 🍊🍊

Forget the Preston link, his managerial record is gash and that’s what we need to appoint someone on.

Where the hell has this link come from? Who does he know?

One minute you think it’s a bad joke. A Nobber windup.

Next minute he’s getting unveiled as the new boss.

Hope we’ve learnt from this season, but I doubt it.

When will we learn we made that mistake last year we can't apoint another nobber.
We need someone to get behind not split the fans before the season starts.
Tony Ellis and Michael Jackson turned out brilliantly for us as players so why would an ex nobber not be any good as our manager….apart from splitting the fan base & probably doing a shite job, putting that aside I don’t see a problem! the bookies even including him in the betting astounds me but then again graham potter was only 33/1 a couple of weeks back, I would actually put money on critchley with a number two of dobbie or Charlie and I’d be happy with it although I haven’t seen that scenario in the betting

Ive never been a Critchley fan, didn't like him when we appointed him, didn't like him when he was our manager, and don't like him now he isn't with us... but seeing some of the names we are being linked with, I think I am warming to the idea of him coming back....

In my opinion, Stephen Dobbie is the best choice for manager next season and he will probably need a no.2, such as Thommo or even Charlie Adam. Whether or not we stay up, a mammoth job is looming next season, but I think Dobbie would do a sound job.
🧡UTMP🧡

Great. Now linked with a third ex-Nobber. Are we sure Sadler isn't one? Or that he isn't an Oystain sympathiser? These PKE links, and repeatedly going back in for people who've shat on us really is beginning to make me question things...

They'll probably make it a double whammy and announce the PKE/Fishy reject the same day as unveiling our new, more expensive season tickets!

The board have to do their jobs and interview a wide range of candidates. It makes sense to interview those out of work first. I've no doubt there will be others in a job which would make more sense to interview once the season is over and we know our fate. As we found out last season the bookies didn't have a clue, nor did some so called in the know journos. Most of the rumours will be spread by agents trying to keep their clients in the news. It would be utter madness to appoint Alexander, worse than the appointment of Appleton in my opinion.

I'd be staggered if this happens, but if it did it would show that our board are totally out of touch with the fan base. We need a manager that the majority of fans would get behind from the start, and not someone who would alienate them. If he started poorly it would go south pretty quick. Ex Preston connections on the whole don't work, and the last thing we need now is a manager who will be unpopular.

They should listen to the fans, correct on Mick correct on Apples and most wanted Dobbie in far sooner. Put it to a fan vote and most certainly Do Not get GA in

Struggling to find any new odds on who will be the next manager. Would be interesting to know who they have spoken to and their thought process for the job.
