Great result, effort and deserved draw

Good performance and two good goals scored. Am I the only one who thought we could of given a little bit more though? Moved the ball a bit quicker? Put them under more pressure?

I know div 1 team v a premier team but just felt if we went at them a bit more they could of crumbled.

Possibly, but we could have also been torn apart. This is a very strong Premier League side and we defended extremely well against them away from home.

i would imagine at home we will try and push the pace a little bit more and go for the win, but I can see why we defended at 2-0, they needed to score 3 goals to give us a disappointing result.

I’d like to know how we can go away to NF a fortress of a ground and draw against quality premier league opposition and lose 3-0 at port vale can someone please explain

We do play better against the better teams (Pompey being another example)?
Maybe the players don't think they need to try as hard against the lower league teams? From experience, if you start a game off at a slow tempo & in the wrong state of mind, it's always difficult to change.

As others have said, we are a good team for sure against other teams who attack and play passing football. We’ve got pace and a bit of flair in the line up.

We just don’t have the patience to defend well against big defensive teams. We try to retain possession and eventually get caught on the break with our back 3 being pretty slow.

Against the big defensive teams we’d be better setting off more defensive and accepting a 0-0 until they come out of their cage and get pressure of their home fans. Problem is we don’t, and then we over commit and get punished.

Think forest fans were piss poor only really chanted with mull o kintyre and when they scored apart from that very quiet ,and yes I was there.

I thought we held our own and looked a lot more comfortable on the ball than some of our games against the likes of Wycombe, Cambridge, Prt Vale etc., we are trained to play like an EPL team which is great but when we play certain teams in League 1 we need to be able to mix it up more and that is a problem we have had.

I can't comment on Norburn, I didn't really notice him, that's not necessarily a bad thing he certainly didn't look bad. I thought Morgan had a really good game and he is improving with every game, Carey did look good when he came on, Grimmy had a great game and Casey was up there for our MOM, he was excellent. Hubby was back to how he was up until about 4 or 5 games ago and Connolly did okay although I would prefer Marv or Pennington there.

The best bit was having 2 proper wing backs, it made a massive difference and Gabriel, when fit has to be one of the first names on the team sheet. He was excellent today and his goal was a thing of beauty. He and Lyons need to hold down those places.

It didn't fall for Rhodes today but if you watch him he does so much, he isn't just a goal poacher he's a work horse and I think we may have snatched it if he had stayed on and got the Joseph chance.

CJ did okay but was a bit isolated, his cross for the goal was excellent. he's a bit of an enigma but he isn't going to be dropped.

Dembele made the first goal but he looks a better player sitting behind a front two than on the wing even though that is supposed to be his natural position. He seems to beat players more easily from the middle then wide.

Joseph hasn't found his feet yet or where he should play, he needs the season to see if he can fit in and improve. Dale looked dangerous when he came on and I prefer him as a wide player than CJ or Dembele.

2-2 at an EPL side has to be a really good result and you have to fancy our chances in the replay.

As for the transfer window, I think we need to know if Rhodes, Kenny and Marv are staying. If they are then I think we need another genre half, a central midfielder and possibly a winger and a striker unless Lav's and KK are close to a return. Maybe a loan and 2 signings.

Just my opinion here and I’m definitely speculating but that to me indicates a lack of application and concentration by the players in the “less attractive” fixtures.
Well said Shiggy.
I’ve said on many occasions that the players need to take some responsibility for poor performances but the “we hate Critch” brigade always blame the manager.

We are a League 1 team. We have no right to win these games or to even suggest that we are capable of doing so. How dare you question the players' attitudes? You should just be happy and on your knees to Sadler just to have a club and thank him that we are in league 1 as we have no given right to be in the professional leagues or have any expectations other than be grateful the Oystons are gone.

Questioning the players. What a liberty.

Played 3-4-3 today as opposed to always playing 3-5-2 away from home

In the 2nd half yes

Nuno Espirito Santo walks into a travel agents ahead of Forest's winter break and says 'Anywhere nice for a holiday at this time of year?'

He replies 'You can't beat Blackpool at this time of year'.

I really don’t understand this response.

Can’t fault the players, attitude or tactics today. Well done to all the boys. We really seized the initiative and although we gave too much space to Gibbs-White for his goal we could have won it if Joseph had been sharper in the closing stages.

Well done to all.

All true but funny how expectations have dropped. In DJ’s time we were confident we could win whilst now a draw is a good result.

Football isn't static - fortunes go up and down.

In 1980 Forest won the European Cup whilst we were languishing near the bottom of the old Third Division, only to get relegated the year after.

What is funny to me, given our history of the last 50 years, is how many seem to see us competing at the top end of The Championship as the norm rather than the exception.

We were both top end Championship teams in DJs time. Now we are two divisions below them. So winning away there is a less likely outcome now. Simples.

Some really good points above in this thread.

Yes 3-4-3 is a great formation.

Big difference having Lyons & Gabriel wide in midfield.

I thought Connelly (too often over-criticised on here) had a great game at the right of the back 3 and Hubby on the left side of Casey.

The fans that travelled were nothing short of “amazing”.

And, just before TAM & Mosser accuse me of being a “Happy Clapper” 🤣🤣🤣 we really do need to filter the fight, will, & overall Self-Belief & Determination shown yesterday, into our performances in away games like Cambridge, Port Vale & Burton.

I may not be a staunch “Ditch The Critch” but we do have to find a solution & quickly, with respect to our “Jekyll & Hyde” away performances.🧡

To be fair, it's hard to get excited in their case against League One opposition, especially as their last game was Man United which was a good atmosphere. Not like our atmosphere has been brilliant lately is it?
