Happy anniversary, Critch

It has been a good year. We have a far better squad and the football is much improved. It has not always been perfect and mistakes have been made but there is real cause for optimism on the pitch now. We are capable of beating any side in this league and results have proved this.

First full season in charge (and a crazy covid ridden season to boot) and he's currently sitting 6 points off the playoffs with games in hand ranging up to 5 on clubs above us.

I'd say that's pretty good going, even if we miss out by the end we could call it successful and know we'll smash it next year.

Lots of great progress in very difficult times, and let’s not forget the courage of SS and the board to appoint him ahead of all the experienced journeymen who’s names were being spoken about at the time 👍👍

Well done. Considering the amount of disruption that's been going on, he's doing a great job.

Happy anniversary...let's hope there are many more to come.
SS deserves credit for making this bold appointment too.
The Club looks so much healthier in every area compared with twelve months ago.

Happy 1 year anniversary......may this be the first of many seasons as head coach, but the only one at league one level!

He's done well, when you consider that one or two people would have had him sacked him two or three times already. Inverse nobbery, I think they call it.

He's doing well. Lots of progress being made and we are heading in the right direction.

I said a while ago that we don't want to be one of those clubs that sacks their manager every 12 months, especially with the backing he has received from SS.

Happy anniversary, Critch 👍

He certainly seems to enjoy the confidence of the Board, and - ultimately - that has to be earned (as well as being very important).

Only he will know how many missteps there have been along the way, but personally I couldn't care less if he makes mistakes, as long as he is able to learn from them. I think people sometimes forget, when they are being dazzled by the Liverpool connection, that this is his first senior job in a highly competitive environment.

Obviously what happens in the next two or three months will be the ultimate arbiter of how successful he has been. He's winning close to 50% of his games so far, so he must be doing something right. I still think we have a lot to do to take a place in the top six ; I know we have a good depth of talent in the squad, but the schedule we face from now to the end would test anyone.

But I don't necessarily think that reaching the play-offs should be the only yardstick against which he should be judged, even if it is what we will all focus on. If we want to be an established Championship club with legitimate aspirations to reach the top flight, then what we do in terms of culture, values and infrastructure will be vital, in the longer term. On that side of the equation, I think he and the wider management team seem to be doing well.

He's stopped tinkering with the formation as much, although i suspect the run of games we have coming up, and the challenges that brings, will mean he is forced to change it up a bit. I also think he is improving with his substitutions. All positive signs 👍

A reflection on your judgement, that’s for sure...
He certainly wasn't the only one. There's been a few people who had itchy trigger fingers and some who have backed themselves that far into a corner that they can't accept they might have jumped the gun.

I would say Critchley has done a really good job with a brand new squad. He has us just outside the playoffs with games in hand. I'm sure we all would have took this position at the start of the season.

First full season of pro football.

Wrestling with COVID and injuries.

Completely overhauled squad.

Strong emphasis on young players.

Future under Critch looks bright.

Really good year in charge, considering all things. Congratulations Critch!

If what Robbie says is correct winning almost 50% of games in charge is a pretty good stat, especially for a new manager.
Thanks also to Simon Sadler for sticking with him and not listening to AVFTT.

13 out of 27 in the league.

It gets worse if you throw in cup games, where we won three out of nine (but only lost one). But three of those games were against Championship or Premier League opposition.
