Incredibly one of the most destructive young batsmen in World cricket has been snubbed by the England selectors for the upcoming ODI World Cup and as if to prove a point he goes and smashes 105 in 42 balls in last nights Hundred for Northern Superchargers.

England's head of selectors Luke Wright commented "It’s as hard a decision as you’re ever going to get. No doubt he’s someone we couldn’t think any more highly of. Everything’s going brilliantly with Brooky. There’s no denying what a superstar he is, and what a huge future he’s got with us in all forms. That’s the incredibly tough decision we’ve had to make."

Seriously why is it a "tough decision"? You've just admitted the lad is a superstar in World Cricket and things are going brilliantly so I'm assuming you're aware of how good he is and admitting he's in great form.

The Aussies and the rest of the fancied nations in the tournament must be delighted at the decision.

Did a thread on it last night, don't think I've ever seen a more destructive one day innings than the one last night. The glided over third man 6 off Ferguson, was the most ridiculous shot I've ever seen.
Only England could leave a batting genius out of a 15 man ODI squad. We either have the best team in the world or the selectors are just plain stupid.

Their excuse will be that Roy is our best opener…I would have been happier with Butler/Stokes/Bairstow taking it on with Brook slotting in at number 4.

Lazy selection - even if Brook doesn’t perform, he’s so talented it will at least be a good experience for the long career he will have with England. Roy is past his best now and we should move on!!

His team still lost the match!

Anyway, it's an abomination that he's not going. He's a short format specialist that plays test cricket due to the lack of any quality in the longer format middle order.

So to drop him from his best format after his performances in the last 2 years is just disgraceful really.

Imagine how badly they'd have lost if he hadn't scored 105 not out from 42 balls, in a total of 158. No other batter in his team scored double figures. As others have said having the likes of Roy in the squad, when Bairstow can open and leaving Brook out beggars belief.
KP used the word " flabbergasted " at Brooks omission, I bet it was stronger off camera !

I'd take him over Bairstow or Stokes who has played minimal one day cricket for a long time.
 
Just to be clear for the matches coming up against NZ he is in the T20 squad but not the ODI squad.

To me it's still a crazy decision not to take him to the world cup . . if anyone has the ability to play in both formats it's Brook. A stylish 'proper' batsman rather than a slogger like Roy or Livingstone.

Roy has been picked for the ODI squad but not the T20 which seems a bit odd - I thought he was a T20 specialist? IMO his days as an England player are over . . . we have a load of young top class openers - Smeed, Banton & Salt who should be given a chance too.

The selectors like to pick players who are versatile - I think this is why Livingstone has been included. I'm a big Livi fan and on his day he's the most entertaining player in the world but he's had awful 12 months, He's been injured I know but he's not had any sort of form since his return so shouldn't be selected.

Maybe they don't want players to play in all three formats so have only picked Brook & Duckett for the T20 and not ODI.

Crawley too is missing . . . from both squads.

The only player who is actually in all three squads is teachers pet - Jonny 'toys out of the pram' Bairstow.

Just watching 100 and apparently they will change the 15 and Brook will go. They didn’t say who will be left out.

If that's correct what a kick in the bollocks for whoever is left out, even though it's the correct decision to take HB, what a complete arseole they've made of the selection process.
