Has Appleton opened the sherry early?

“But ultimately it’s still very condensed down at the bottom and we’ve got three games in a week and they’re the type of weeks where, if you pick up nine points, things can look very different.”

He does know after Hull we're at home to Sheff United and Sunderland who are 2nd and 13th!!

Who we've played away and drawn with, and in all honesty, should have beaten.

🙄

Come on, getting a bit silly beating him up for going 1 way then for going another.

You want your manager to be targeting the 9 points.

He'll know how difficult it'll be.

How Not to Run a Football Club page 116 (re Appleton) - “they (the fans) didn’t like the football being played, and the results were even worse.”

Nothing has changed!

If anyone has watched Traitors it is very much like the beginning of that show and the psychology of the herd mentality. There were some ridiculous bullshit conspiracy theories when he was announced from a section of the support based n the square root of fuck all, leaving the club when he realised what a bunch of half wit hillbillies the Stains were and for being a Preston fan...... with a tattoo..... that was it! Where the fuck did that come from? nd then the results started to turn just as he was winning the supporters over and the herd grew and grew, I will be sad if you get your way because I think it is madness. Anyway, there is no way he will be sacked, Sadler and BB obviously believe in him and once they get their act together you have to hope they will back him and help him do the job they want him to do. Being all quiet and sulky and bitchy at a game or on social media is actually going to do more harm than anything.

... and sadly that game, for me, is the root of one of the problems of where we are. Effectively that game cost us the next few games - had we have kept XI players on the pitch and got even a point I think results would have come in the next few games. We can still correct this but the Sheff Utd game will be seen as the one where it all started to go wrong.

The Turkey will be getting stuffed this Christmas and someone else will have to clear up the leftovers.

But we drew that game 3 3 and won 2 of the next 3 games!!

3 games in a week?
look what happened a few weeks ago with a regular 2 in a week.
Lots of injuries etc. let's hope we ride this one more safely.

He's 100% right, 3 games = 9 potential points. There have been periods this season when we've played OK and put a few performances together, it is a funny old game. What I would say however is we have been awful barring a very brief period of the Brum/Cardiff games, nothing I've seen suggests we are about to click and go on a winning run. As it happens, we actually look worse than before the WC break. The lauded coach is failing, yet another slow start against Hull and it just confirms he doesn't know what he's doing or is unable to get this team playing for him.

I agree with you regarding Appleton there’s criticisms around him that are undue, and it’s making for a negative atmosphere within the fan base and negating critical assessment.

But how do you square this circle when you’re one of the main protagonists on here with ‘Bullshit Ben’. You even cite it in this post.

everything you’ve written in the defence of Appleton there could be used ten fold to defend Mansford from the weird narrative built up around him.

The bit that made me laugh out loud was ‘If anyone has watched Traitors it is very much like the beginning of that show and the psychology of the herd mentality. There were some ridiculous bullshit conspiracy theories’. That is down to a tee what you and a few others have fallen into with Mansford.

The funniest thing I find about that is, it was started by Phil for a few run chases, I don’t even think he can believe the sheep he’s got to follow him on it.

The hypocrisy in that post is staggering.

I don't rate Mansford and was one of the first to say so, so no herd mentality there and not many people agree with me as most think MA is to blame. Sadler is inexperienced but wants what we all do but he has to learn quick and I'm sure he will, I'm talking about the squad here not the infrastructure, he can't be criticised for that apart from ticket prices.

I have supported MA and I have also said he has to go, not because of his ability, which I think is good but the fact the main group of supporters have turned against him and I don't really know why if you look at what has happened since he joined us. I still think he should go if the supporters fail to respond positively to him, it just won't work, but I hope the penny will drop and the supporters will see they are causing a lot of the problem. I also don't think Sadler has any intention of sacking him this season or next for that matter, but they have to find some players for him that will improve us so we can stay up. If you wait a short while you may see that happens.

Mansford has failed in the recruitment and the team under him failed and his statement earlier in the season was shocking and why he has the name BB in my head. He has the knowledge and experience but he is on a massive wage and he needs to earn it, he needs to pull his finger out and show us what he can do.

At the end of the day we need continuity and some stability, I would be happy if Sadler, Mansford, the manager, the players and the supporters can put the last few months behind us and move on stronger together if we can get through this season and stay up it will be a success and if we all pull together we can do that. Nothing hypocritical about that. Just wait for a New Years Day present.

If I’m honest I agree with your last paragraph, we’ve not been able to see what Appleton can do. Even though I think he’s made plenty of errors in his tenure so far.

However, I really can’t agree with anything else you say. If you really were just never on board with Mansford then I’d argue it’s based on nothing really and just an irrational dislike of him. Fair play I think the whole club made mistakes this summer. There were mitigating circumstances, just like Appleton’s last six months but they’re paid very highly to navigate all that successfully, but they haven’t. No arguments from me.

But if he’s a large hand in that he surely has a large hand in promotion in one year and then Championship stability last year. You can’t have it both ways. He can’t be only responsible for the running of the club when it suits your dislike of him.

We’ve spoken about this before in here and in reality life’s too short.

Happy Christmas 🎅

At the end of the day we all just want a stable progressive football club to support, I think it will be so much better next year.

Merry Christmas to you too and here's to more passionate, civilised debate in the future. 👍 ☃️🍻

The Mansford bit. If he is culpable for this seasons relegation fodder and poor choice of manager, is he not equally lauded for his promotion winning team recruiting, and successful manager choice?

Yep, we have to weigh all hes done and all he does do.

From the football side to the managing the east stand and TG plans with all that entails, legacy issues, stadium, etc plus to football side.

There's definitely been some mistakes made, I don't agree with the price strategy and the summer was poor, even if the best intentions and reasons particular deals didn't happen.

However I think overall he's done alright.

That’s my view even if not popular. Summer was poor and I feel they just over estimated the local support on the ticket charges too
