Have some people been self-isolating too long?

OMG what next - and what would they call that food instead?
Some individuals must sit in a dark cellar (or student library) dreaming these things up!

Actually, 'curry' is just a single particular dish in Indian cooking and not a whole array of sauces. We seem to wrongly use the term over here so I suspect that is the root reason for the article which probably mentioned how the meaning of the word got twisted by the British.

There are many words whose meanings evolve over time in all languages. Not a reason to want them cancelled.

Anyone fancy starting the same sort of click bait by saying we want Preston North End cancelled.....🤔

All those living in 'South End' Preston are being excluded and cancelled by the club.......So it should just be renamed......Preston End FC

Also....those stupid 'fake' bowler hats they buy from the joke shop for....Round head day or something stupid......That's male dominated gas lighting.
They should make it gender neutral and all fans should now wear a rainbow coloured pinny and wooden clogs for their 'special community day'

Lets be honest...they haven't had anything new to celebrate since.......... 1882 about time their fans came into the 20th Century

It's more to do with educating people that using the term 'curry' is wrong because 'curry' is not a generic overall genre. It's like being at McDonalds and them asking if you want 'Tomato Ketchup' and you saying, no I want 'sauce'. They would say, which sauce? The word 'curry' relates to a particular single thing - i.e. like 'Tomato Ketchup' differs to Mayonnaise.

To call for the cancellation of incorrect usage is in this case perfectly valid. It's nothing to get offended by just because we went there as foreigners and got confused by local words!

"It's like being at McDonalds and them asking if you want 'Tomato Ketchup' and you saying, no I want 'sauce'." Cobblers 😂😂. Who'd go into a takeaway or restaurant and just ask for a curry? It's been a generic term for as long as I remember same as sauce is a generic term but we always use the correct name when ordering. Like I said this is all becoming very amusing.

You still don't get it!!!

So you want to buy some chips from your chip shop, do you go in and say, please can I have some chips sauce?

The next day you want a kebab, do you go in the kebab shop and ask for a donner kebab sauce?

The following day you want a pizza so go in and ask them for a Margherita sauce?

That's what we have done with the word curry. We wrongly call all those Indian dishes curry even when they aren't!

I get what you're saying, I really do, but despite the fact it's technically wrong the word in the UK has evolved far beyond that definition in popular parlance. At this point the word has taken a new meaning even if it's wrong. This happens all the time in the English language - look at the word gay for example, or awful used to mean "full of awe". Apparently bimbo derives from an Italian word for "little child", and nice comes from a Latin word that means ignorant.

Now that doesn't mean if I go to India, and ask for curry, I should be shocked if they give me a very specific dish. Over there it means something different and if I was there I should respect/understand that, but that doesn't mean we have to deconstruct and reconstruct the definition of 'curry' here in the UK.

This will be from the same people who claimed 'they' were banning the use of blackboard and baa baa black sheep.

Never happened, never will.
