A bit of a shift in recruitment policy this week, in terms of signing some more experienced leaders, Norburn, O'Donnell and Pennington have all been captains previously and had circa 1000 games between them,

Morgan, and I'm sure some others to come in will fit the bracket of the young, up and coming, sell on potential types, which they've made no secret, are the target demographic for most new players to enable us as a club to eventually become self-sufficient.

But I think most fans, myself included, have bemoaned a lack of leadership and experience in recent times, is this week's business also an admission (of sorts) from the club hierarchy (and the Head Coach) that they're in agreement and how much of a driver has David Downes potentially been, given in his interview he mentioned looking in house for players before recruiting external loans, is the signing of experienced leaders a conscious thing to enable those young academy products who may come into the team to have the best support around them in the form of a team with an experienced spine/core when they do which will give them a better chance to learn and succeed?

Lots of guesswork but until we start playing and the transfer window closes that's all it is.
The signings so far do look promising though.
I still think Downes will have his work cut out persuading Critch that many (indeed any) of the Development Squad are match ready but I do expect Lankshear, Holmes and Apter to be in and around the squad.
There's also Jake Daniels who needs to resurrect his football career because distractions aside there's a promising football there somewhere I think (hope).

It certainly makes a refreshing change to be signing good, solid, experienced professionals who are valued highly by their current clubs and are good to go from day one.👍

Experienced heads always help and should make up the spine of your team. I would like to see us now go out and get a few young exciting players who will hopefully grow into real assets for the club. When they do we can sell them and reinvest that money into making the squad even better. That is what needs to be done, especially at a club like ours.

Not really tbh. We've had those people before. Keogh, Stewart, Madine. Trybull was brought in for that reason. Nelson. Maxwell.
Only Keogh and Madine have benefitted the players around them, and both were struggling with their own injury issues.
The squad now has enough old heads, and focus should be on developing our own talent not another clubs.

Is Trybull still one of our players? If fit for any length of time far too good for league 1. As for developing other clubs' players, a few loans are inevitable and another similar to Ellis Simms would be more than welcome.

Yes he is our player and is in training and is looking fit. If he can get up to speed he could be a real asset for us this season.

Interesting thoughts there . Sounds pretty logical to me .
I'm looking forward to a fun season with quite a few surprises. Development squad developing into first team squad members on merit would be fantastic

We’ve been after Norburn for 18 months and Pennington was a no brainer, albeit impressive. Let’s see what else we manage
