Here's how I see it

Either his hands are tied by contractual stuff that stops him playing the best team or he's got a hugely overestimated view of his ability.

Watford were awful today. A terrible team with no strengths to worry us. We failed to take the game to them and never once looked proactive.

A midfield 3 of Carey, Patino & Rogers was always going to be lightweight and Bowler was clearly going to be lacking match fitness. Our best striker is Jerry and he played 20 mins.

Either the club tell the truth re the budget and what the coach can do or the club sack the coach and get someone in who is positive and can generate wins from (on paper) a reasonable squad.

Absolutely nailed it Straighters

Sorry Straighters, I thought Watford were good. Not great and we did contain them for a long period. As for the rest of your post. Yes, I agree.

if his hands are tied by contractual stuff and has to play certain players then someone in the management team needs sacking, because that would be a ridiculous contract stipulation to agree to.

id agree Watford are not a particularly good side, but we gave them so much space to play in.

The club has a limit on budget, a good coach could work around that. You look through the squad and there are some very good players, who are often played out of position or not played to their strengths. most of the players often seem to be lacking confidence. he doesnt seem to understand when players are tiring.

There comes a point when you have to question the board if Appleton remains in charge...defending the indefensible and fiddling while Rome burns will without doubt see us down this season. If we fail to beat Huddersfield and the board still dont act then they are beginning to look like the biggest villains in this piece. Appleton should have gone after the Wigan game and we havent won since then.

What does madine have on him I wonder ?I can't comprehend how any sane person would pick him . He is out of his depth at this level always has been .Fair enough if he is the best we have got but he simply isn't

He
Patino is an excellent prospect. At the moment he is being asked to run midfield ,(at 19 years of age), by an idiot.
He's also being asked to do it with a young lad learning his trade alongside and no defensive midfield shield backing him up. While we are in a relegation dogfight with clubs who have much bigger resources.

How does Patino keep getting a game. He’s not actually good enough
he definitely is good enough he has a rare vision - but - hes lacking confidence at the moment and playing a position hes not suited to where 80% of his game is defensive. and despite his vision if you haave a system that is simply designed for hoof ball he is going to way lay passes like everyone else

I think this rare vision is a myth? I can't think of any decent passes in the last god knows how many games? The problem is he has come with this big reputation and fans are still dining out on it but to me he looks slow and average and loses the ball often.

His technical ability, first touch, and how comfortable he is on the ball are his greatest strengths. I think his passing/vision is overrated beyond belief though, I can think of only maybe 4 or 5 balls he's played all season that have been particularly notable. And he's just so unbelievably slow that he can't really capitalise on his strong movement while on the ball.

Can’t be true otherwise Williams would be starting each game.

They were shit. They had loads of injuries and I asked their fans on the way home too. They were so happy with a win under their own circumstances.
They had strength though. Physically more imposing.

2pm I feared the worst. MA has to take responsibility for that.

On the other hand, TT to come in. I believe a deal with a CB was struck last week, so is that on or off???? Things change of course.

I'm in 2 minds as to what should happen. I suspect the board are in 4.

So they are terrible 👍🏻 Then the table does lie👍🏻👍🏻

It’s an easy decision… It was an easy decision before the World Cup break, truth be known.

Must admit wasn’t sure we’d score and till the subs came on didn’t look like so.

Not sure how we are 3rd really .
As soon as we attempted to do anything other than play for nil nil, your quality took over and we were doomed to lose. You’re the best of the middling teams in terms of talented players and that shows in shit games like that.

I wouldn’t go as far as to call them shit, but we were comfortably containing them after an early scare, so arguably if you follow the lyrics of 'How shit must you be, we're drawing away' then maybe.

The difference between the sides was they proactively changed things with 2 subs at half time, bringing on the lads from Benfica and Udinese, then a further two on the hour.

Yates was warming up ready to come on when they scored. Too little, too late. As for Lavery coming on in the 92nd minute, that was a joke.

As you said, I thought the game was there for the taking at 0 0, but we were happy with a 0 0. That backfired badly.

They've gone 3rd tonight. Not that shit.

They were decent, their DM was really ** good but he looked injured.

But I'd say Watford would say that was a 6/10 performance. And if you're not beating teams when they're playing bang average then you are in trouble. Because we've already shown we can't take points off of Hull Rotherham Wigans of this world?

Yes the more subs we made the better our performance got as they wanted to impress and had more pace .

Was a very young team by the end!

Had we not got the 2nd or you’d scored might have made for a nervous ending .

Bowler was very dangerous I thought but we just shut you out well .

Cathcart and Sierralta are probably our 2 best defenders and we took two of the dodgy ones off at HT.

You’ll probably win next week and we won’t - such is the Championship outside the top 2!

He literally has the players and still picks squads back like he was dealt a poor hand and had half the squad injured.

If he can't get results with or without being "backed" then nothing has changed and he needs to go.

Watford were awful. By the end if the game they had at least 4 players on the pitch making their debut.
We should have gone at them from the off
Very poor.
Making their debuts after signing from Benfica (Brazilian international) and Udinese. Our debutant was from Shamrock Rovers.

Patino and Carey are decent players but not what we need right now. They need to be rested and replaced by two of Dougall, Connolly and Trybull in front of the back four.
I've been thinking all evening about this too.

Assume a fit front four of Yates/Lavery, Bowler, Rogers, Poveda with CJ on backup. Push the full backs on so Lyons and Hubby/Thompson. So does playing a central pair from TT, Dougall, Connolly and anyone else returning like Bridcutt, mean we're going to lack creativity?

I don't think so. We might be a bit more solid in the middle, stop hoofing and keep the ball better.

Some fans need to know way too much.

This, the board needs to act now.
SS is our hero after the stains of the oystons, to keep faith in Appleton after today and the recent run, if he / they don’t act now then we will get relegated without a fight and lose supporters that they have been trying to get back after years of no young support

I'm only hoping the rumours of us sounding a new coach out are true. The single biggest issue is the manager and his tactics, remove him and we give ourselves a chance. Huddersfield next week is not going to be pretty.
Huddersfield should be a massive chance

"Not so pretty"

So negative you kid

I think when the possibility of their team being relegated is increasing by the week, it’s not too much for fans to ask where the problem lies.
If fans want answers like that, they should have helped BST up their offer in buying the club. We have an owner and a board to make the desicions.
I would concentrate on your own club staying in a play off spot.

Wiz,

'shit' was obviously unfair, but they were doing nothing and any neutral would have scoffed at the lack of quality on offer through the game.

The difference wasn't where the subs came from - one of theirs was 17 - it was the mindset of the 2 coaches. One is positive and believes in his club, the other isn't and doesn't. Watford have the budget to accommodate both. We don't.

And as you say in Phil's thread, not playing a defensive midfielder was just stupid. To put it in context, even if you don't rate Dougall or Connolly there, they are still the only players who fit that role. You wouldn't play a striker in goal because you don't rate your keepers. You make do until you can make the change or change your system to suit.

This is what I've been saying for weeks. He either doesn't know what he's doing or he doesnt want to do the obvious stuff for other reasons, like he falls out with players. It feels like both. I think he has poor man management and is tactically limited too.

Feels that way to me too. There's an arrogance about him that isn't justified in the performances or his record and it just doesn't suit us as a club.

I think he's a nice fella. I don't think he is arrogant. I just think he's out of his depth and is having to front it up. Which looks like arrogance. We should put him out of his misery really, it's the least cruel thing to do.

Gary as captain 'because he's an alpha male', fits in with his steroid gym mentality.

No subs when they'd brought on 4 was obviously going to translate into tired legs, poor thought process and poor touch
