I was just looking at your website & wondered if you could tell me what Blackpool's 12 largest home attendances of all time were - cup, league, friendly etc.

I ask because I am trying to put together a table of top 12 attendances for each football league, ex league and non league teams which achieved attendances of 10,000 or more.

This is purely for my personal use.

I'm looking for the following information:- Date of Match - Day-Month-Year, Opponents, Competition, Score, Attendance.

Any information you could provide would be great.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I’ve spent a while researching and I’m finding it difficult. Biggest one I’ve been on was the Man United game 71 season I think, 29000. Something like that, Best was playing and if memory serves me right it was 1-1.
That era we had many decent gates.

Sad isn't it that even with a newly constructed Bloomfield Road which I can't see increasing in size that we'll not see those figures again.

Without wasting all morning , second highest I can find is just under 37K against Man Utd in 1958.
Several crowds around 36 K In 50’s.

Highest for me is 33,555 against Man Utd in 1966.
A couple gates just shy of 32 K in 1964 where many climbed the floodlights for a perfect view!

What is noticeable is the sudden decline in crowds out of the holiday season.
There was the odd game where we failed to break 10K in the top flight.

As mentioned the 38,000 plus is the highest. I read a match report that said there were another 3/4 thousand locked out an hour before KO. Other big crowds mainly against PNE attracted 36,000 plus on number of occasions. 33,000 to 35,000 happened regularly against various team all during the 50s.

My personal highest almost 26,000 was against Bolton in 1977

Utd 37,000+ Aug 1958 was my first ever match. Won 2-1 with a penalty.

It will be off a Nobber banging on about crowd sizes. 😂

Biggest crowd at Bloomfield Rd that I have been in was the 0-2 defeat against Bolton Wanderers 27th Dec 1977. Can't remember the official attendance but I remember it was close to 27,000.
Yeah I was at that game too! I thought it was nearer 25k but nevertheless was an amazing crowd to see at BR. Pity about the result. Same season that Spurs were in our league, 17k for that one but may be mistaken?

FAO AVFTT Admin, there have been 13 Bloomfield Road attendances (all in the old Div 1 during the 1950s) which were over 35000 at Blackpool home matches, details as follows:-
1. 38098 v Wolves on 17/9/55
2. 36719 v Man Utd on 30/8/58
3. 36264 v PNE on 9/10/54
4. 36159 v PNE on 25/8/52
5. 36120 v PNE on 10/9/51
6. 36006 v PNE on 13/10/56
7. 35910 v Sheff Wed on 17/10/53
8. 35724 v Charlton on 13/10/51
9. 35671 v Burnley on 11/10/52
10. 35666 v Man City on 3/10/53
11. 35350 v Sunderland on 13/9/52
12. 35303 v Wolves on 19/10/59
13. 35074 v Wolves on 19/9/53

All of the above information has been obtained from a detailed analysis of information in Roy Calley’s book “ Blackpool The Complete Record “. These are all Div 1 League games, there have been no attendances above 35000 in the FA Cup, League Cup or indeed any other game held at Bloomfield Road.

Biggest I can see is 38298 v PNE on 2/10/1948.
I think there might be on higher, but not found it (yet).
I think I was there, so was my Dad.

That was at Deepdale not Bloomfield Road. The highest attendance at Bloomfield Road is 38098 v Wolves in Sept 1955.

Just seen your request today, I have provided the information you requested, apart from the score, let me know if you want me to add the scores.

The highest average League attendance in any season at Bloomfield Road (21 League games in Div 1) is 26526 in the 1949/50 season. The aggregate attendance for League matches in the 1949/50 season, which is also still the highest ever at Bloomfield Road, was 557052. Six attendances were over 30000, Six more attendances were between 25000 & 30000, Seven more attendances were between 20000 & 25000. Nineteen attendances were over 20000 and just 2 attendances were below 20000 that season. The highest attendance in that season was 33675 v Liverpool on 15/10/1949 and the lowest was 17257 v Derby on 12/11/49. The capacity of Bloomfield Road was increased to 38000 in 1954 as a result of the East Paddock extension and additional seats in the West Stand.

My Dad took me to that Wolves game in 1955. There used to be a cinder track around the pitch, and kids (me) were allowed to sit on it ; even that was packed. It took ages after the game before Parents came down to collect their offspring. They were waiting for the jam to ease before we were picked up. I could see how tightly that huge crowd were constricted together. If anybody went down, he would have been crushed. I was frightened that my Dad might be, and that I wouldn’t see him again. It took about half an hour for the Kop to empty. There were people sitting on the terraces recovering from a frightening ordeal.

Plenty of typos in that book.

My biggest attended attendance was the 18k versus Man City and that was crushingly scary. Hate to think where they put another 20 thousand.

Guaranteed 35K at Bloomers if Hendo was playing goose!

Yes, I'm saying that apart from the 38k our other highest attendances have been £36k+. We'never had a 37k+.
Sorry I misread what you said.
Plenty of typos in that book.
Yes I have seen a few typos myself but it is an amazing record that Roy Calley has pulled together and I believe the accuracy level he achieved was 99% plus. I have not found any errors on the attendances after comparing them with what is in the BFC programme at the end of each season. At least back in those days attendances were based on the actual number of people attending the games.

Interesting to note that all those games were in summer or during the illuminations.

Aug 1958 v Man Utd was my first match.
We won 2-1. About 37000 I think, possibly highest league crowd as record game v Wolves was a cup game.
