Hollow Victories

Have not known for many years now (probably since McDonald's season), a campaign where the season is over before it's really begun. The problem Critchley has is that his team will have to perform on so many levels before he wins fans over. So that means individual players have to start to shine, the team has got to come together and gel and we have to start winning back to back to back games.

At the moment, as was proven against MK Dons, one win doesn't cover the cracks.

A win on Saturday will be hollow because Burton have been so poor, get back to back wins with 3 points against Wigan on Tuesday and he might be cut some slack but then his side has to beat Eastbourne in the FA Cup (not easy) and then after Leeds U21 (free hit), he has the unenviable task of taking his team to Peterborough - where we are at present is that even if he got 4 wins in those other league and cup games and then went to Posh and lost, I can't help feeling we'd be right back to where we are now.

Agree with much of the above but Critchley's one saving grace is that he hasn't played out this debacle in front of fans. I think if he had arguably the situation could have been worse for him now. As it is, I doubt he reads social media or AVFTT and so the only dissenting voice he may hear is from Mansford .. and as he has invested in this project so much, I somehow doubt that.

I think a good preseason gave some a false sense of optimism, in reality getting promoted this season with the turnover we just did would have had to of been one of those magical things where everything slots together instantly - which clearly it isn't.

It feels a bit like a condensed version of what happened with Grayson, the flying start to the season made the capitulation over Christmas and January feel that much worse. Maybe if we hadn't put 3 past Everton in 11 minutes and were leading the champions of England 2 - 1 at Anfield people may have been more understanding that we are in transition.

So the the sentiment of the "season is over" is probably based in the fact that people assumed we were going to get promoted this year, which was unrealistic. And the statement isn't true, our season isn't over as of yet as we may be in a relegation scrap come the end of it 😉
