Holloway type

I know just the manager who is looking to get a management job and he's exactly like Ollie........ it's, er, Ian Holloway!

Just get him in till the end of the season with Thommo and Dobbie and if he keeps us up give him a 2 year contract, if not look for someone new in the summer. We've taken 2 of the worst ex managers and completely ignored our most successful manager ever. He's bonkers and I love him for that. He would lift the team immediately and the supporters, fuck me, we need a lift and he would lift us high.

Of course, the fool Sadler can't see further than his nose, and he likes to shun the likes of Holloway and Evo for the likes of Grayson, Quitchley and Appleton and he's supposed to be our saviour, god help us. Talk about Fred Carno!

I would go for Rees Mogg as head prefect with Mark Francois as motivational speaker at half time. Rachel Riley as masseuse and Reg Varney as team bus driver.

Sounds more sensible than most suggestions. Let's do it!

To be clear here I'm not slagging the board this is purely just an observation.
Maybe the board just want something different than the fans.
The fans seem to want an attacking upbeat pressing style of play or manager hence the Holloway, Evatt suggestions. The board have appointed Grayson and Appleton, pretty dour downbeat guys who play or are playing long balls to a big fella and hoping for something. Maybe that's the style of play SS and the board want.

I can’t see that, SS said when he took over that he wanted attractive, attacking football, or words similar.

Holloway was a wildcard maverick.
Is it not time to throw caution to the wind and find his like?
He was a one off as you suggest.

But we do need someone who believes in himself and his players. I don't believe Appleton believes he and his players are good enough but probably tells himself he's doing the best job he can with the materials he has. Holloway overcame all that and told his players we were going to get promoted right at the start, when we were relegation favourites. Thoughts of failure never entered his head or his language or his demeanour.

I know I remember that just seems odd that he'd then appoint Grayson and pass up any opportunity for Evatt then we end up with Appleton playing hoof ball again. Maybe he's not getting what was advertised either as Apples says he wants attacking football.

There is no point throwing names into the hat as not many managers would want the job. Would have go to the lower leagues.

Need to stop talking about Evatt as well. Why would he leave Bolton for us?

I think Sadler thinks he meant it when he said he wanted fast attacking football but some people just don’t like loud, outgoing. Flair type people, they like the steady Eddies, we have posters on here that are like that and I have met several. It frightens them, makes them feel insecure and jealous because they are usually the polar opposite. Sadler comes across as a bit gray and I wonder if he is terrified of rhe sort of personality the likes of Evo and Ollie have, because he says he wants fast attacking football and then appoints 3 of the dreariest, dull and uninspiring managers he could possibly employ…. Why?

I think BB is different, he doesn’t want outgoing a bit off the wall managers because they would suss him out easily and he would be vulnerable then.

More likely the personalities involved. G & A probably won't make many noises, whereas your bouncey up and down the touchline guy may not be so quiet if things are failing behind the scenes.

In other words appointments within the comfort zone.

Sadler doesn't come across as grey to me. Not as colourful as Owen granted, but be careful what you wish for!

The appointments have been dull but Sadler has to confront the hard reality and complexity of running a football club and is new to it. I do ghink overlooking Evatt was a mistake and I was critical at the time but I don't walk in Sadlers grey/black shoes. He has made a significant investment and ultimately wants what we do, and is learning from mistakes. We woukd all make mistakes too, and they can be very costly and difficult to correct.

Oyston was so disgusting just seeing him made me want to have a shower, revolting!!

Decent reply to be fair, but he can't carry on making mistakes or the supporters will start to turn on him and I think that would be enough for him to say fuck it and I wouldn't blame, as I keep saying I think he was absolutely bonkers buying the club, thankless task and being a supporter too makes it even harder.

Very few people will take on a club like ours Herts. And even fewer with honourable intentions. My attitude is one of gratitude, if that's not too great a platitude. 😀

I don't mind his mistakes tbh. They are nothing compared to we had or what we could have. We have gone up a division since he arrived lest we forget. And the Oyston stench has been removed.

That's more than enough for me. People forget so quickly and become restless again. Desperate to get back into critical mode where they belong. Little appreciation of the difficulty of real life competition.

Holloway was certainly a one off and he’s probably been the best manager I’ve seen at Blackpool, but I wouldn’t want him back…. It would be a mistake.

The trouble is who could do the job, there is a real lack of managers who fill you with much hope. maybe someone from abroad, I just think Ollie would be worth a try to the end of the season but if MA isn't potted until after the Huddersfield game or even later then I think we are fucked anyway.

If it's to change then it needs someone who is going to rally the fans and get them on board and behind the team. I can't think of anyone else who could do that. Only for 4 months though.

A lot of the other changes mentioned aren't exactly inspiring.

I'm sure there's plenty who could do the Job... Going back to Holloway shows a real lack of imagination and would be a heart over head type of appointment. The one person I would welcome back to the Club with open arms (but as backroom / coaching / assistant would be Thommo and I think the Club would do well to bring him in)... There's a number of reasons why that would be a good idea, but here's a few off the top of my head..

1. He's 100% committed to the Club and Bloody Loyal
2. He'd be great in a situation like this, because he offers us continuity when we are 'In between' Managers
3. He knows the Club and keeps an eye on our progress and performances

When you have that level of competence and experience in the backround, you can then afford to take a few more risks on 'up and coming' managers / coaches....

See above...

putting aside where he is at in his career, I doubt Holloway could hit the ground running with us right now and so he would struggle to turn things around quick enough... I would rather bring in someone else with Thommo alongside (That way, whoever comes in can be quickly brought up to speed by someone who knows what they are talking about and most importantly, can be relied upon to have the Club's best interests at heart)...

Totally agree about Thommo
