Hull

A Hull fan has posted on their forum that Blackpool is in his/her words a shithole.
I've worked in Hull and visited on a number of occasions and have to say the place is one of the worst deprived hovels I've ever been to and I've worked all over the UK and really struggling to remember anywhere worse.

Does it really matter?

I've met Hull city fans
I've met Hull RLFC fans
I've met Hull KR fans.
I know EXACTLY what the place and people are like as far as sporting events are concerned.

"Hell, Hull and Halifax" the saying went. Some great coastal scenery out East though. Spurn Point is majestic.

At no stage in the evolution of humanity has anyone said “I fancy a week away in a hotel in Hull”
Absolutely bang on, my old man got this couple with a similar line when we were out for his birthday in Manchester once. He got talking to them outside a pub and they asked him where he was from, he responded Blackpool..

COUPLE: "Oh we were in Blackpool last month actually, absolute shit hole"
OLD MAN: "Oh right, and where are you from"
C: " Stoke"
OM: "And you come to Blackpool on holiday?"
C: "Oh yeah we love it, we come every year"
OM: "Well I can assure you, nobody goes on holiday to ** Stoke!"

People form shit holes calling Blackpool a shit hole will always amuse me, we're in the same boat. Difference is they then come on holiday here!

I quite like Hull. Lots of good pubs in the old town, loads of history too. I don't suppose getting bombed to bits in WW2 helped much.

I lived there for three years. It is actually like a scaled up version of Blackpool but without the Vegas of the North bits...a very local identity, some nice bits, some poor bits and drug problems and everything in between. A proper northern practical city without pretension.

Not sure if you noticed when living there but I find some people from Hull have an accent very similar to the Blackpool accent. I think maybe the fact that both are northern but both on on the periphery being by the sea maybe dilutes the stronger inland version of the respective Yorkshire/Lancashire accent.

Yes I did. The only big difference being road and rurd.
