I know it's frowned upon to give him any credit on here...

Not sure how long it's for but the dynamic seems to be helping so far. Not perfect as we've seen the uncertainty over subs and things like that but feels a lot calmer and sensible than how it started anyway. It's OK to talk the talk, but you also have to sign some players who can cope with your ideas too. And then set them out in a way that makes sense for the league.

20th with -3 goal diff up to the day before the Burton game when the name popped up. 4th with a +10 goal diff since. Evens itself out to midtable so far. And with being held back by not being able to trust the home pitch.

I know Dunn was in the way but he wasn't holding them to a contract, so I couldn't see why two new coaches would just be thrown out there without the club insisting on an experienced third wheel from the outset. Or why Critchley would rock up here without knowing anyone to come in with him and help out with the workload, like organising the defence. You should surely always look to help give yourself the best chance.

Surprised by the title of the o/p's post as I've never heard anything but praise for Calderwood on here - where has the idea that fans think negatively of him come from?

Praise for a certain player IMO has to go to Thorniley.
The forgotten man at the beginning of the season, told he could go in January but then had to be thrown in due to injuries.

He's playing exceptionally well when called upon and is it purely coincidence that Blackpool are keeping quite a few clean sheets since his return?

A very professional season from him so far, kept his head down when left out and has delivered since his recall to the team. 👍🏻

26 goals conceded in 27 games and that is with a poor start, and the chopping of changing of the back four - Ekpiteta had about 6/7 different centre half partnerships!

I honestly can't remember a time where we've been this good defensively, its absolutely unbelievable!

It was never an ability issue more a wage issue eating a big chunk of the cap.

Our upturn in form started the day he walked into the club. Don't get me wrong, the majority of that was due to Critchley and the settling in process. Colin has clearly had a huge impact on our defence, to think we've just won and kept clean sheets at Portsmouth and Charlton with the opposition creating next to nothing for Maxwell to do. Calderwood and the whole coaching team deserve praise given how poorly we started the season.

...but how good has our defence been since Calderwood came in?

The board deserve huge credit for the way they have quickly reacted to problems this season, and bringing in Calderwood could be our best signing of the season.

N.B. Praising Calderwood doesn't mean I'm criticising Critch.
Definitely deserves credit too
