I remember Alan Ball being sold

It was the end of the world when people spoke about it in pubs, No internet in those days or else it would have exploded.

So who came to the rescue? from memory a certain Tony Green. The rest as they say, is history.
Alan Suddick was signed as a replacement for Alan Ball in December 1966. The club actually invested £60000 plus of the fee for Suddick. Tony Green was signed May 1967 for an absolute bargain fee. In those days we had a superb scouting network in Scotland.

We had a superb manager in Morty. I was only 8 when he was sacked so it didn't register. With the benefit of hindsight it appears stupid in the extreme.

Alan Ball was my boyhood hero, to see him the MotM (despite Geoff Hurst's hat-trick) in the World Cup Final was bloody Tangerine amazing!

I cried when we sold him to Everton, but soon after saw his debut for them at Craven Cottage when they won 1-0 - Bally scored their winning goal in the 67th minute!

I still have an Everton rosette that my uncle bought me outside the ground before the game.

Not long after, The King of Bloomfield Road arrived and my tears were no more!👍🧡

I couldn't believe we would sell him he was a absolutely brilliant player.
He was the joint best player I've seen in a tangerine and white shirt with the other one being Jimmy Armfield.
Within 2 years of the transfer we had Suddick, Green, and Tommy Hutch.
Little old Blackpool with all that talent and how much would they be worth today. The mind boggles.

Remember Tony Green making his debut against WBA. It was last home game and relegated.
He really impressed and remember the Football Green headline “Green ray of light for Pool”

Ball left us pre-season as mentioned and we all knew that difficult times were ahead.

Tony was allowed to play in the last game of the season as it wouldn’t affect either end of the table and Greeno was so amazing we watched in wonder

Think he only played for pool once after ‘66
final, a pre season friendly at Deepdale ?

I think that's right. He was due to play in the return friendly at BR but pulled out as was about to or had signed for Everton.
I was at the Fulham match when Bally scored for EVerton. 1nil win. I had seen him play there for Blackpool in a 3-3 draw at Craven Cottage. Bally scored all 3 goals, best player on the park.

I was working in London W1. Early 70,s. Walking across Wigmore St and an Irish guy stopped me and said. Are you Alan Ball of the Arsenal. Well, blow me, stature wise maybe. But I did NOT have the ginger hair. Now at 77yes i wont be changing the colour. Bally , what a player.!!

That 3 3 draw at Fulham was probably the game that made people sit up and take notice of him As well as a hat trick he was also booked !

My first ‘favourite ‘Pool player’ was Alan Skirton - I remember being gutted as only a kid can be when he was sold to Bristol City, so I empathise with those with kids currently feeling the loss of Jerry.

A new hero will emerge - and I’m pretty sure we haven’t seen the last of Jerry in BFC tangerine….

The sky must have been full of carrier pigeons breaking that news 😄
