But you see I quite like the Belgiums( Good Beer and Chocolate as well the City of Brugges) and the Dutch( after all they nearly play in Tangerine) but the French have no discernible qualities and I hated learning their language( who apart from the Frogs want to use it)by an obnoxious useless teacher, though I did pass my O Level but have never used it since
.As an aside I only ever got the cane once at school and that was after I’d sat my o levels and we went to Jodrell Bank for a post exams school trip where I was caught smoking( gave that up wisely a few years later) and was told to give the cigarette to said French teacher which I did.The trouble was it was still lit and he was not best pleased when it was handed to him literally.Said trip was on a Friday.I was at Arnold School which at that time did Saturday Morning School so I was told to attend that morning whereas all the other O and A level pupils didn’t have too.So basically I was more or less on my own in the years section,apart from maybe a couple of borders.At the end of assembly I was called out in the front of the rest of the school to attend the head masters study ( Frank ,the arsehole,Holgate) who then gave me six of the best.
I was only 15 at the time,we skipped a year out if you were in the top class,so only did1,2,3 and 5 Up to O level so I was under age to smoke
It might also explain why when I went on to do the sixth form I never made either a monitor or prefect when by the second year most did.Not that it bothered me and to this day I never wanted to be an Old Arnoldian after leaving because I never felt any attachment to the place even when there.

Are they blaming Liverpool for the defeat.…at the same venue as last weeks CL Final.Wonder if the police and authorities were as effective as managing the crowds as they were last week with the local friendly community obviously also making them welcome.

I was at Arnold 72-77 courtesy of passing 11+ which I wish I hadn’t. I too feel or felt no connection. My mates went to Palatine and I was interested in football….not rugby, Latin, or romping around in army, navy or Air Force costumes on a Friday before an inspection on parade. My Saturday detention was given for blowing my recorder when Ken Shenton issued us with our new recorders in music lessons. He did say, do not blow them when you get them out of the box. I couldn’t resist placing it between my lips and out popped the tiniest of peep noises which qualified as a Saturday detention. Not happy days

At least you didn’t have obligatory Saturday morning school as I did…though they actually did away with it before I left…they just added the time on to the normal weekday hours (so we finished not far short of 5pm) which when I see our local schools on their way home just after three in the afternoon always makes me smile.I was at Arnold 72-77 courtesy of passing 11+ which I wish I hadn’t. As for CCF on a Friday knowing in my time you were back at school in the morning was a joke so nobody took it seriously as they just wanted to get home apart from the teacher who was in charge ( who taught Latin in my day which hardly anyone took) as we effectively learnt nothing of any value.Think it was done to make the place look like a proper public( sic) school.

7 O levels though I did fail Chemistry( 1966),History,Geography,English Language,Maths,French,German,Physics,
3 A Levels( 1968)History,Economics,Geography.( 1968)
Bachelor of Commerce Degree with honours,Liverpool University ( a Desmond two two
)( 1971)Qualified as ACA (subsequently FCA) ICAEW ( 1974).
…oh I did win runners up Cup Final Medal Manchester Accountants League and Runners up Accountants League Division 2 ( well you can’t win them all)…medals upstairs somewhere
...doesn’t make me intelligent mind you just getting on in years these days

I scrambled 4 GCSE O levels and couldn’t get out quick enough. Spent all my spare time playing football nicking on Palatine fields with my mates from Palatine. Nothing floated my boat at Arnold to spark my interest.Did you two cobble any gcse o levels together or were you cse set 5 no hopers

Race and racism are different things.
Racism is a discriminatory belief over a persons race or ethnicity. Ethnicity is defined as "common sets of traditions, ancestry, history, language, society, culture or nation". So yes - openly calling people derogatory names and using very lazy and ignorant stereotypes is racism.

Racist….now that is funny….my wife is from Malaysia of Chinese and apparently Burmese( her words) ancestry and as result i have a large overseas family who I have been lucky enough to have spent time with over the years.
My wife has suffered some racism over the years but she is very much proud of her adopted Country and a might add Queen.Mind you she has been here since 1969 when she arrived as a young 20 year old on her home to work as it turned out for the same accountancy firm as myself but different offices.We have been married 46 years so it has obviously been her home for the vast majority of her life.
oh and I still don’t particularly like the French especially as a nation so by your definition I am a racist…I don’t particularly like Prestonians either ….but in both cases I don’t actually hate them.

Yep..that’s our cousin Peter but his second team is definitely us….he’s even been to a game at Bloomfield Road and never Man UA family photo with no shame - someone has a Man Utd shirt on
though we did take him to their club shop.His game Blackpool V Torquay United in the FACup when we effectively had just two stands
.and we won and he absolutely loved being there.His first and only ever proper live game unless you count some one off preseason friendly when the so called big clubs have played in Singapore.Kenny( another cousin) at the other end is a Derby County fan ( and always has been).
Both take their football seriously.
As does my sister in law who is the one in the sort of Orange top with the M&S bag….unfortunately like Peter she is also a Man U fan
…at least the wife knows wher her loyalties are,not that she is into footballjust games at Wembley and the Millennium but she has been to Bloomfield Road and even Ayresome Park once to watch us

It works……no they can’t get to games as in physically they watch as much as they can and Kenny via the Derby site watches games like we did on IFollow.…..and even I have a second team here which i look out for the results first and that happens to be Everton as I went to university in Liverpool but if we play them then…no

No it’s our Uncle Andrew who is Peters Dad…sadly he passed away only a few weeks ago….and such a lovely person who I spent many a happy hour walking and talking to when we visited Malaysia and Singapore where his three boys now live.Two are on the photo,the other is Lawrence near Kenny who has absolutely no interest in football whatsoever but is one the nicest and kindest people you could ever meet.
