I see the guy ....

Today there are too many "career politicians" and not enough who have a genuine desire to serve the communities they represent. At the risk of using a vey old fashioned language " people of conscience who feel they have a civic duty".

He’s serving his country, it’s a privilege
I’m not sure he sees it that way. Especially if the salary, combined with all his financial obligations to his ex wife and kids, means he can’t afford the lifestyle he’s used to.

And if seasideone’s inside intel is correct, then the Tories gently nudging him towards a resignation may be pushing at an open door. Although, if it happens, don’t be surprised if it isn’t sold on “health grounds”.

True enough but there are still some conscientious, civic duty types on both sides of the back benches.

I have no love of Johnson (quell surprise) but, if it happens, it may well be on health grounds from his perspective. Not from the '22 Committee's perspective obviously. They do love a good bout of regicide in the Tory ranks when things don't appear to be going to their liking.

Agree entirely with that.

Johnsons modus operandi has been to zealously plot and manoeuvre to achieve the glittering prize then to discard it and move on; he is usually uninterested in wielding the power with conviction once it has been attained.

From his days as President of the Oxford Students Union, through being the MP for Henley, Mayor of London, Foreign Secretary, and being PM, he has conspired to attain the coveted position, only to show minimal interest other than monetising it.

Even his first wife -the wealthy socialite Allegra Mostyn-Owen - comes into that category; she was the brightest and most unobtainable young thing at Oxford, and Johnson pursued her relentlessly, acquired her, then quickly lost interest in the marriage.

It has been well documented that money is a massive factor in Johnson`s life, and he could bow out as PM through `ill-health` having "got Brexit done", and monetise himself like never before...

What are you on? Theresa May makes £100k per chat. Boris could make double that if he was in any way bothered about money

I know seasideone is best chinas with Boris or perhaps best chinas with Boris's best china but I am not sure that he'd claim to have an given us an exclusive on the early departure of Boris.

If you google multi millionaire socialist Keir Starmer’s estimated wealth it appears he is almost 3 times richer than Boris.Even Commie Jezza is worth more. A pay rise for Boris and Dom? Discuss.....🇬🇧

Ah! But to make all that filthy lucre you have to be an ex Prime Minister, and Johnson is moaning (in the press through `friends`) about having no money now, since his lucrative journalistic sidelines have been terminated.

See his dilemma a little more clearly now?

Doesn`t help, of course, that he has spaffed much of it up the wall on expensive divorces, maintenance on kids out of wedlock, etc...

Nobody should be running a country for the wages of a high street accountant. He should get a special bonus just for having to put up with the whingeing Captain Hindsight and his ovine disciples

I agree that Johnson is expendable, but I think he will have electoral value as a public punchbag for a while yet. The aim will be to keep power until 2024, when presumably the world will look a lot different, and if I were a Tory grandee I would make sure I got rid of him at a time when a new, younger, more photogenic and more credible leader could come in and make the Party look a different proposition to the electorate.

They need someone who combines Sunak's abilities with Teresa May's work ethic. That could be Sunak himself of course, although he has some hard economic yards to furrow yet.

Boris was elected for one reason and one reason only and that was to take the UK out of the EU. Ultimately, he will be judged on how he handles this. At the moment he seems to be taking the country with him in standing up to Brussels, unlike his predecessors. The next month will be crucial but Boris is holding the best cards as we enter the final lap. When that job is done I expect Rishi Sunak to be groomed for the top job.

Alas, that seems to be the way of the Western World these days. How photogenic were Churchill, Gandhi and Lincoln? So we have Justin Trudeau and Emmanuel Macron, both photogenic but neither pulling up any trees. Electorates really do let themselves down when all they can see is the book's cover.

Well that opens a whole new can of worms and explains much about how US politics works. I wonder how the electorate would have voted in 2019 if Corbyn had looked and presented like Sunak.

It really upset me reading about the Prime Ministers financial problems.

I think all caring people on here should contribute to crowd funding to raise some money to help poor Mr Johnson.

I'm prepared to contribute up to seven shillings and sixpence.

Can anyone else help?

Yes it’s a scandal that the PM and current spouse can’t afford to have a nanny. However will they cope?
On the subject of being photogenic, I don’t think that’s a problem for Bojo. After all he’s pulled off the impressive feat of branding himself as a sporty ladies man, despite bordering on the morbidly obese and possessing a collapsing face (copyright Alan Partridge).

And all in half crowns!

That’s assuming the Conservative Party membership elects Sunak as their leader in the final two candidate run-off. Will they? Or might Sunak have to stand unopposed, like May did?
