"I though we were in control of the game"

A common post match comment from Critch, which is an absolute load of bollocks to me.

Just playing the ball back and forward between the defence and the keeper is not controlling the game, plus overdoing it is boring as fuck to me.

Winning 2-0 and your opponents not looking remotely like scoring is controlling a game, then you can play the ball around in your own half.

We've lost our last three away games with a combined score of 6 conceded and 1 scored, yet apparently we were "controlling" the games.

I haven't got a problem with 3-5-2 it's a great system IF and only IF you have defenders who can play, wing backs who can run and a number 10 who can create chances, but if players are not doing the business the system you play is irrelevant, same as having 60%, 70% possession stats is irrelevant.

Change the record Neil, it's becoming boring.

Nail on the head Bull👍🏻

Totally agree so the choice is pretty simple. Back him in January cos we need a fair few or change the system to try suit the players we have. If we stick get Gabriel back in on the right and buy a lwb. Buy a couple of cbs and buy the best ball playing cm we can get

Good OP and sensible- I disagree with idea of buying lots of players in January as I'm not sure that is the answer in the medium/ long-term
I genuinely believe we have a squad which is more than capable of challenging for promotion in this league .

I do strongly agree that we do not have the players to play the system NC insists on playing .That shows either a lack of flexibility or lack of managerial nouse.

The brand of football can bring some great results which we have seen this season but it can also be sussed out by managers who have inferior squads but a more flexible approach to games .
Often can throw up boring to watch footy.

Yep, agree with all of that.

Passing aimlessly and repeatedly around at the back could be the death knell of football as entertainment at all levels.

Very few teams seem to do it right and use it as an opportunity to actually find space in order to make the incisive pass forward and play through the lines. Brighton are one of the few teams who do this effectively and are a joy to watch. Most teams bore you rigid with it.

Possession stats and formation are indeed irrelevant if you don`t have the right players who fully buy into it and have heart.

First 10 minutes aside last night was team without belief...

Watching the last couple of games it appears that the players are on a bonus based on how many times they pass back to the keeper

As an example - has Dom Thompson ever passed the ball forward? He seemed to be on the verge of doing so last night on a couple of occasions only to remember his instructions and turn back to pass to Husband or Grimshaw

I think Critch has some sort of electronic stun tag on him which he activates if Don shows signs of getting too ambitious

It’s obvious to everyone but critchley, that we haven’t got the players to play the system he wants. Why can he not see that and play a system that suits the players?

That's my point Mates, we haven't got the correct players in the three areas that Critch needs for his system to work, and this is exposed more so when we're away from home as the results are showing.

One swallow (Pompey) doesn't make a summer.

As r replies like this - what should he have said

From a person who has written PM speeches once upon a time !

The Problem is he don’t want to lose face as he is to stubborn and set in his ways.if you remember when he managed us before it was 10 games with out a win then all of a sudden he got Calderwood in and the system changed to 4-4-2 as well as 4-3-3;so these performances are mirror image performances from before when he changed the system we went on a great run unless he is not prepared to change the system he really needs to pack his bags clear his desk and bail he ant a first team coach you only have to look at his record when he managed QPR.

(Critchley) It's going to cost millions to get the quality of player in who can play his system correctly

or

(Dobbie) Cost nothing by changing the system to suit the players we do have

What's it to be, Simon?

How about “I apologise to the fans and the Chairman. We are in for training tomorrow to get to the bottom of what needs to change. I can see that we need changes. I haven’t anything else to say tonight as I need to be careful with my words. I’m just very sorry for the travelling supporters who came in such numbers to witness that”

Man, listen up, I feel ya. Talkin' 'bout 'controlling' the game? That ain't no control, that's just playin' keep away with no soul. You gotta have that fire, gotta push forward, you dig? It ain't just about the stats, it's 'bout makin' them plays, scoring them goals. And this 3-5-2? It's cool, but only if your squad's got the chops. Right now, it's like we're stuck in a broken groove, playin' the same old tune. We need some new moves, some real game. It's time to flip the script and bring the heat. Peace out, but don't let the vibe die.

Apologies, I’ve just watched Black Dynamite on Prime.

Strangely I'd agree with the opening quote from Critch, we were in control of the game but concede a sloppy goal and because of the formation we play have no answer to going 1-0 behind. Surely he must see that as a theme and then realise something is wrong which can be corrected?
