Iconic players - how do they do it?

Was just reading the article below about Charlie being too good for Dundee and being a hero up there already and it got me thinking about how some players manage to become huge favourites everywhere they go. How many Blackpool players can you think who manage this?
Maybe Brett Ormerod (Blackpool, Accy, Southampton), Alan Suddick (Newcastle and Blackpool).

Tony Green was as lauded at Newcastle as he was with us.

Peter Beardsley was another who was liked wherever he went. Probably because it was clear he was doing his best all the time.

Peter Noble seemed to be respected and even idolised at Burnley, certainly admired by Swindon and Blackpool fans.

Being successful is the main part, but charisma also plays a role.

Billy Ayre is a massive example of that. He got us promoted from the 4th tier, that was the pinnacle of his achievement with Blackpool, you combine that with his passion and personality and he is a club legend. After all the following years of success/promotions, some of which VASTLY superior to his achievements with the club and a significant portion of our fanbase will tell you he is their favourite ever manager. That says a lot about what can cement you as a fan favourite I think!

This. Most fans respond to players just doing their best every game, the minimum you can do is try your best.
