iFollow revenue - Accrington figures

As always, Andy Holt being very transparent and this time publishing what Accrington are making from iFollow.

Not sure if other clubs might object to him publishing it so I’ve saved the image rather than linking to his tweet which might get removed.

They’ve got a revenue of a paltry £18,540 from the opening 7 games on iFollow money alone.

Clearly Accrington’s figures aren’t going to be reflective of League One overall but it’s still an eye opener.

Perhaps the best comparison for Blackpool on their list of opponents is Peterborough who sold just over 1,000 passes for their game away to Stanley.

Ipswich seem to have about 5,500 fans watching their home streams when you add season ticket codes plus one-off subscribers, so we’re probably less.

Said from day one Ifollow would bring nowt in and its being proven.
Great to have the service but a complete waste of time to the running costs of a club especially as everyone I talk to watches it for free on their Kodi sticks.

It also (and I'm not having a go, it's just the way it is) shows why it's so tinpot in terms of commentary and such. It doesn't make enough money to employ decent commentators and multiple angles and so on.

Thanks for linking this. Really interesting.

Of course the more fans that watch the away games the more the club make.
Getting fans back into the ground on a reduced capacity basis isn't going to make any money at Blackpool.
A capacity of 4000 will be taken up by ST holders who have already paid and then there's additional stewarding costs.

Football wasn’t making money in this league with full crowds so anyone thinking ifollow would be a lifeline was always going to be as wrong as could be. The longer this Covid thing continues in virulent form the more the country is going to be changed beyond all recognition. At some point we just have to accept that shielding plus normality for everyone else is the only way to go and if you can’t or won’t shield then the risks are there that lifesaving treatment just may not be possible.

I find it staggering that Accrington haven't broken 200 in any game. If that is a representative proportion of their usual 2000 or so home following and can be extrapolated across other teams, does it indicate that we'll be getting around 700?

The figures show there is different % applied for each Club for the amount of subs going to the home team?
In League 2 it's fixed at the first 500 subs going to the home team which appears to be the arrangement with Fleetwood.
I wonder if we have a different % applying?

IT's crazy that there's not been some sort of short-term compromise on iFollow revenue in the current circumstances to make things a bit fairer.

There has because prior to COVID the monies were split 80%-20% with the selling club & EFL.
Now it's the split the same but now the home club gets the first 500 sold by the away club.
In theory, Accy does better than the previous agreement I think.

Some brilliant stuff on here and a real eye opener. TV really doesn't work for the lower leagues where attending in person is part of the fun.
Without doubt somebody somewhere needs to chuck some cash in otherwise its all over.

The Football Supporters Association needs to get a grip and try to find a compromise, because simply complaining via social media etc just doesn't get anywhere.

Remind me where Accrington are in the League again?

Probably the highest achieving club in the entire League. Really tin pot. You should stick to posting your FIFA2020 bullshit, it's more your thing.
I'm not talking about league position couldn't give a shit about them

Just getting a bit sick of Andy Holt always wanting something for nothing

The facts are he's got a really shit supported club and the sooner he realises that the better

Similar to the Cods ..

Just shows how badly supported Accy are

Tin pot like Fleetwood

Accy are completely different to Fleetwood in that they are an actual club surviving (or not) by their own means. Fleetwood wouldn't be what they are without Pilley's money.

Yeah, I know that, but it still seems unfair to me, but I suppose there's not much anyone can do if they only have a few hundred people willing to buy a match pass per game.

It's a tough one.

I think Holt just wants a fair deal, and he is the spokesman for clubs like ours.

I never knew how many fans you had counted for anything. You sound like one of these tossers who don't know there is a league below the EPL.

Yup seen it but talk is cheap. What they might want to consider is telling the EPL to stuff its grants and get a fund going from supporters, and shelve the divisive affiliate criteria on democratic groups.

Time to work on subscription TV and get fans to boycott it too.

He's not a spokesman for anybody except for himself and his own agenda

I've had a few run ins with him and he simply wouldn't answer my questions

He was talking horseshit the other week about the Big Picture money, but he generally wants a fairer deal for all, including fans.

I suspect his tune might be different if he owned a club with 20,000 home fans though.

Holt's alright. I couldn't understand his logic of 'Im against the big picture but I'm going to vote for it' but he's a good source of info. A lot of stuff would be entirely unknown if people like him didn't put it in the public domain. Whatever his agenda, I like that he's vocal. With everyone, ye take the rough and the smooth and balance it up.

I also agree that Accy are practically the best team in the country if you do point per pound and a totally different kettle of cod than the cods.

The "500" is for League 2 clubs only.
There's a "formula" (definitely) applied to League 1 clubs based around previous gates (I think).

As stated not a lot of money in TV revenue for LG1 football.
Should all the ifollow money be divided equally though between all the clubs?
It seems a bit unfair on the smaller teams.
Almost like Man U & Liverpool wanting PPV rights at the expense of smaller sides in the prem that was proposed in 'the big picture'.

He's a decent bloke and has done a lot for Accy. And to be fair you sound like a crank Why would he answer you?

I think these figures also show the detrimental effect showing iFollow games would be during a normal season. I know it has been muted a few times they should increase revenue by showing iFollow home and away on a Saturday but I think these figures show that actually it would be harmful to finances as opposed to beneficial.

Not sure about that. I would think that the vast majority of those watching on I Follow would be at the game if they had the opportunity.

With the benefit of hindsight I would have preferred to buy an actual Season Ticket rather than a iFollow season pass if I had been given the choice. Even though I would have had little or no opportunity to use a ST I would rather my money go to BFC than a subscription service.

All IFollow does is give the opportunity to watch it for free on a Kodi stick take that away and you either go to games or not and that includes the away games who might think twice before traveling if your a bit short of a few quid.

I think the problem with Andy Holt is that he'll always feel hard done by with a club that only gets about 2,000 fans and maybe should look at increasing that supporter base before criticising how little money he gets.
