I think that Pool’s plethora of midfield players are all much of a muchness. I refer to Morgan, Carey, and Weir I would be tempted to play Thompson rather than any of them, for no other reason that he is naturally left sided. CJ is as well, but of course NC chooses to use him on the right. Nearly every Pool attack on the left results in any Pool player having to drag the ball back onto his right ( stronger) foot. Thompson doesn’t have that handicap.

Out of Morgan, Carey and Weir I suspect Weir has the highest ceiling. But will he move towards that ceiling during his time with us? Do you play him exclusively to try to reap the benefit this season? Or rotate the three and see who responds? Or give each a run of games and assess rate of progress? Dembele may also compete for that position. There's a lack of clarity really. Critch doesn't seem able to fit players into a complete jigsaw in less than half a season. A slow builder. Which is much better than a dismantler or a wrecking ball.

Dougall and Norburn are guaranteed starters for now, Carey, Morgan, Weir and possibly Dembele competing for the third midfield place.
Might see more of Thompson in the away games at wingback but hard to leave Dale and Hamilton out of the team.
