Has anyone watched this? It was on late last night showing Paul Ince and various other managers but this Ince interview really god me thinking.
He was complaining that he has not had the same chances in management that his white colleagues have had and who continue to get jobs even when they have been sacked for similar bad results.

My only question with ince is, he was really bad at the seaside and he did not help himself secure another role when he allegedly assaulted a match official whilst at the seaside.
Would you trust him?
Thougths?

He’s got a point in general but I don’t think at a personal level.

So I’m guessing he thought he should have been the next Man Utd of Liverpool manager and did like many managers white or black, have to start at the lower league but he did get his chance at Blackburn who were still relatively high profile at the time.

Issue I have with Ince, is that he doesn’t come across particularly articulate or intelligent. I just can’t imagine him being a tactical genius or a great motivator?
His interviews as Pool manager on radio Lancs used to make me cringe.

Overall, I am sure black, Asian and Sub Continent ex players don’t get the same opportunities in European teams however Ince just didn’t seem to have the skill to be a real success.

I think he may have a point in general, but in his case he has had some very good opportunities and was found to be wanting. At pool he inherited what was a decent side and turned them into relagation candidates. In his defence he was working for the biggest c**t in football but he definitely had the backing of fans, i remember the game where fans turned up in Paul Ince masks in support of him. Also he decided to work with the biggest c**t in football so can hardly complain when the guy behaved like a c**t.

He probably needs to take a step back and re-learn the game a bit, its moved on since he was a player, and as much as i liked him as a player, he was a bit of a dinosaur even then.

The Oystons worst and laziest appointment. Terrible manager who I think killed his son's career.

I'd say with Ince personally, he needs to look further down the league pyramid as he needs to earn some trust again and show he can do the job.
On the notion that some managers get more chances, I watched Roy Keane say the same - he's only had a couple of chances at it and reckons he now doesn't get a look in, whilst others continually fail and are on their 11th or 12th managerial job. I guess he has a point, but maybe other manager's reputations don't precede them and they've got the interview presentations and gift of the gab.

Mcmahon under rated manager for us. Played some nice football.
Ince didn't do well enough, don't think he comes across well on TV either, nothing to do with skin colour, one manager that I do rate and talks good football sense is Jimmy Flloyd Hasslebank.

Was that the interview with Gary Neville where they're walking his dog? That was very good and Keane came across really well.

The relative lack of black managers in the EPL and EFL, compared to percentage of black players, is outrageous.

But that doesn’t change the fact that Paul Ince is just another good player who didn’t become a good manager.

Or that football has changed a lot since he last played.

It was indeed - before watching that I admired Keane as a footballer but was a bit dubious of him in other areas - he came across really well and there wasn't much that he said that I disagreed with, plus he has a good sense of humour. I think Neville had it right in that Keane doesn't play the game in job interviews with presentations and his 'vision', he says it how it is. From what he said, all he's expected, as he did as a player, was for the players to be 100% committed and not think they're something whilst looking down on others. I liked the way he siad as a manager, you look after everyone from the players, to backroom and ground staff.

Yeah, he's too honest with himself if anything and as we know it's the bull shitters who tend to get by more these days.

I wasn't a fan until I watched that, he just seems like a nice fella with an eye for a wind up.

Agreed - it gave a different slant on him walking out on Ireland too, and I couldn't blame him after he explained what actually went on, he was a winner and didn't suffer fools gladly. I'd like to see him back in management although he's probably too much for today's players.

Re. the general lack of opportunities. Are we a few years away from it really happening? Only a few mind.

Now that there are so many more black players in every team, it will follow that more of them will progress into management. I've no idea why the black players from, say the 2000s haven't gone into it more - maybe they have, and a lot of them are currently working at non-league level, so they're not really on the radar as much ass the guys in the leagues.

But as the current playing careers come to and end there'll be more opportunities. And it'll coincide with the end of some of the current managers who get short term success somewhere and then get five further appointments elsewhere on the back of it. The likes of McCarthy, Bruce, Warnock and many others I'm sure who I can't recall.

I wouldn’t trust him

Also he has had plenty of managerial jobs

Who would employ someone with his arrogance and temper
