Ipswich Home Game - right or wrong in hindsight?

Just thinking back to our form when the game was agreed to be played.

Playing the game was condemned by us all at the time, due to us being out of form and Ipswich looking like a very good side.

With it being a shortened season, the club's thinking was clearly to get another game out of the way so that there isn't a backlog towards the end of the season.

So with the benefit of hindsight, was playing that game the correct call? We would probably have a four game week coming up if not..

Terrible decision

Don't look back in anger or alternatively *never mind the quality feel the width.

*no idea what that means but it sounds good

But that is irrelevant. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday Nov 14th but brought forward to Oct 10th.

We didn't play a game on Saturday Nov 14th.

Not rearranging this game would have had no effect at all on end of season backlogs.

Who's position would you rather be in now with a handful of games to go?

Over the course of the season you win games, draw games and lose games.
Who's to say that they'd not have beaten us anyway later in the season?

We played em at Portman Rd when they were in rank bad form and put two past us comfortably 🤷‍♂️

It will always seem a ridiculous decision to me.

We were in horrendous form, with no confidence.
We were playing a right back at centre half because the left back we'd been playing at centre half was suspended.
We'd just signed BALLARD & GRETARSSON 5 days before the game.
We were playing Gabriel who had just arrived and he had a stinker.

That game was the catalyst for a toxic atmosphere against Critchley, I felt he was thrown under the bus bringing that game forward and I'm thankful there were no crowds in at that point. It felt like an absolute god send having a free weekend whilst in horrendous form, with a squad that barely knew each other. On top of that Ipswich were in GREAT form, I bet they couldn't believe their luck when we asked them.

It was so obvious we weren't going to get anything out of that game when you consider what was going on at the club, but the next time we played them a month later and our suspensions are over, new signings have had time to bed in we have a much better chance at getting something out of that fixture.

No point crying over spilt milk though and I said similar not long after it had happened, there is certainly no point crying over it now with our current position - that being said though I don't think you can put a positive spin on it, for me it was a completely misguided decision.

We could easily have dodged Ispwich, just like Burton did to us but we didn't. I like that attitude and I like the confidence that Critch must have had in the players to get a result against an in form team. It didn't work out as we all know and it might have been a bit naive of us but we gave it a go and didn't weasel out of it.

Exactly Wizzer. Let's not replay the past. We're in a good position so let's look at what might be, not what wasn't.

Black Box thinking....

Examine the past amd what went wrong to make sure it never happens again.

Obviously comes from the airline industry, but is a very large part of successful businesses 👍

Can’t believe a defeat in a season that my memory doesn’t go as far back as the last defeat we have had is still being brought up, It’s gone. The season has been a success and could yet become great.

Yes, we've been reading a lot lately about some football clubs being overly concerned about business rather than sport.

So when should we have played them next November ? It was 17 matches ago we got spanked fair nb square

Would have signalled a retreat mentality like Burton. Has not harmed us as much as poor referees. Past is gone now so no point dwelling on it.
