Just been reading the Ipswich forum on Luke garbutt... none seem to devastated he’s signed for us as defensively fragile ? Most disrespecting Blackpool... though one thinks we’re dark horses others think they all have too much for us.

Can’t wait for them to come against our youth, pace and pressing we’ve implemented now and see if they change their tune.

I think we’re on to automatic promotion tbh & can’t see anyone in their squad to be worried about, though I think they’ll be there or thereabouts.

when you read others forums discussing us you see how wrong the fans of other clubs usually are. It's the same here when we discuss other clubs. We generally get them wrong, I think.

I think to be fair, our own fans get us wrong. I've read so many giddy posters, like the OP who think we're going up automatically.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion I guess

Agree - I was looking through a couple L1 squads this season and struggled to know half the players, who to them fans obviously could be top top players.

still stand by it and think we’re going up automatically !

Sunderland fans are exactly the same. They dont understand why he's come to us when he could have signed for them. What they dont seem to realise is that we have been clever with the wage cap so we can probably offer Garbutt more than they could. All out highest earners were signed before the wage cap so they only count as average earners. Personally, I think that's why he's only on a year long contract. Sunderland are in desperate need of a LB, they only have an academy player there right now according to one of them. Imagine Hamilton against an academy player. Think we will surprise alot this year.

If we are honest we knew very little about most of our own signings so forming an opinion on other squads is flawed at best. We have no idea on fitness, form or attitude. The main source of information is from highlights, which by definition won't necessarily show consistency or other key attributes. I hope most clubs and fans don't rate us, it'll make it even more sweeter when we are handing out a few heavy defeats. We are showing promising signs but have a long way to go before we romp the league, I'm reasonably confident we'll do well and much better than last season whilst providing a lot more entertainment.

True story!

We don't even assess our own club and players very well. These Sunderland and Ipswich fans don't know the whole background to what is happening at our club - the owner, the new coach, players seeing the club as somewhere to come and get a platform to succeed, the huge clear out of players that has made space for new players to come in etc. And they are partly fuelled by resentment and frustration. Lack of maturity, really!

You'd think Ipswich fans would show a club in the same league as them, and one that took four points off them last season, a little bit more respect tbh. They're one of the bigger clubs in this league, yes, but we're on a level playing field.

I often think it's only when a club loses its arrogance of expecting a league to be a doddle, do they truly start to be competitive in it. History is littered with examples of so called big clubs that have dropped into a lower league and not found it easy.

Edit to add - reading the Sunderland forum, it's like chalk and cheese vs the Ipswich forum. Far more knowledgeable and far less of an arrogance from them.

Don't fall into the trap of assuming that the keyboard warriors are representative of all fans. All clubs are the same. us, Ipswich, Sunderland. All have fans with unrealistic expectations, delusions that they are "bigger" or "better" clubs than others. I know lots of Ipswich fans. None are arrogant or unrealistic. Fans of other clubs reading this forum could selectively draw the same conclusions about our fanbase.

As he said in his interview...
He’s come here because of Covid 19....
He lives in Liverpool and Blackpool is close to home in these worrying times

Ipswich oh yes that town that was slagged off on social media for being a “dump “by one of the Ipswich Town players a few years back.

I enjoyed my weekend in Ipswich and most of the fans I spoke to before/after the 2-2 draw were fine. Social media does seem to bring out some prize idiots however, in that respect the Garbutt signing seems to have unearthed plenty of theirs.
