Is Matty V on his way out?

Alan Nixon is reporting that Lincoln are about to put an offer in for Matty Virtue. I like him but MA did say recently that the lad needs to play regular football. I can't see that being at BFC.
Shrewsbury are also interested, according to Nixon - but that doesn't mean much 🤣

I don’t think he’s brave enough on the ball (perfect for Critchley’s sidewards and backwards stuff) for Appleton and doesn’t possess the sitting qualities that Connolly and Dougall have.

I’m still a bit puzzled as to why we gave him a contract extension whilst he was injured.

That’s answer to that is simple….Critchley who had him since he was a kid at Liverpool. Ward has a bad injury in the final year of his contract and gets released yet Matty V also has a bad injury in the final year of his contract and gets a new one - Critchley looking after him. No way good enough for the Chsmpionship and needs to move on

Partly agree. I’ve never seen him as a CDM like Dougall or CC though. He can put in a tackle and win the ball back but I think he prefers to be creating and a a back up threat on the edge of the box. With Fiorini and Patino we already have that.

Wish Matty good luck. I think any League One Club would do well if they had him. Not quite sure he is fully able at this level. but, it was just bad luck with the injury he got.

If it was up to the fans, we would never ever release/loan anyone out as every player we have is up to standard for the championship apparently.
We would just have the same squad every season as 'there's a player in there somewhere'

The outcry over the past couple of days because Lubala and now potentially Virtue have left is a joke. People need to give there head a wobble. Neither of these two in particular have offered absolutely anything in a competitive game, Virtue runs around a bit and that's it.
These players need to be moved on for us to improve the squad.

Lubala I never rated
Virtue did well in L1, and then suffered a bad injury, to me the jury is still out whether he can play championship football, but happy to accept manager's viewpoint who will have watched Matty closely for weeks.
Happy for the team to evolve as there is still a big difference between an ok championship player and a top of table player

Shrewsbury and Lincoln are after him which tells you all you need to know, he is a lower mid table league 1 player.
Nothing wrong with that, it's just his level.

The real answer is resale value, Ward is 27/28 and after his injuries has no sale value, Virtue is 25, and if he has a good season out on loan may command a decent fee.

I have no issues with this at all. I agree with an above comment being mid to lower lg1. That's not a dig and there's certainly nothing wrong with that, it's just where he is. Good luck to him

I’ve always liked Matty. Like someone said earlier, the jury is out whether he can do it in the championship but I don’t think he’s been given a shot. He’s not a cdm for me, he’s a proper box to box midfielder who can drive. Perhaps he isn’t the level we need to progress so I dont mind him going out on loan but he is the type of player we need alongside a Patino.
