Is Owen Dale like a new signing?

Took his goal well today, obviously appreciated at Portsmouth - the one that got away that fortunately didn't?
Hopefully.

I was going to mention this myself. He's kind of gone under the radar a bit, but scored a couple recently.

He's been written off a little, but let's remember once again, it's Critchley who brought him here and he'll be happy he's back and may be able to get the best out of him.

Quite a few Pompey fans really thought that they'd be trying to sign him permanently as he did well for them last season. He's certainly a good player fpr a position that we really are short in.

I mentioned on another thread that until he scored the goal he was relatively quiet. That was because he was playing out wide and he wasn't receiving the ball from others. He went close with a header in the box and then after scoring a great goal, you could see how his confidence improved and he was getting stuck in all over the pitch. He has good skill and I think he will be a great asset this season.

That’ll be the Pompey that stunk the gaff out all season and never got higher than mid table will it.

Hardly quiet, before he scored he put in a great header, which just missed the target. For a little one he has a great leap on him. Also scored against Tranmere with a very nice header!

Would need to score quite a few goals to make it work for him and us (maybe 10-15?) as he would be playing so far forward. Can he do that? I hope so!

He’s the definition of a mercurial player.

Every season he has a few moments that make you believe he can be a top top player (Barnsley and Reading away in 21/22) but for the rest of his cameos he flatters to deceive.

I found it interesting in his interview that he said Critch is deploying him as a 10 alongside a striker, which could work well for him.

Definitely deserves a chance, but will not hold my breath.

Worst case he’s a good option off the bench if we need a moment of magic.

Lavery needs someone to play alongside him and Dale can score goals
If he can match Shayne's work rate he may get more involved in the game
And we might end up with a new improved player

Still only 24 and looks like he's beginning to believe in himself.
He could have a big season ahead if Critch can find a role that suits him.
Unless we brought in someone significantly better I'd stick with him.

I watched him play a game for Pompey last season and he impressed me. Definitely one of the few players on that day to stand out.

You have to remember we are a league 1 side now and the Play off final against Lincoln was on TV tonight and we already have a better squad than we did that season. Dale will be decent for us in league 1. We did have Yates of course then and a fit Stewart plus Ballard and Simms and Embleton on loan, but overall we ae much stronger now.

But apart from Yates and a fit Stewart plus Ballard and Simms and Embleton on loan, what have the Romans ever done for us?!

But 3 of those were loans, we haven't got any loans yet but we Have Norburn, Trybull, Grimshaw, Lyons, Gabriel, Lavery, Penniston & Joseph, all Peter than what we had back then. We will add another 2 or 3 before the end of the transfer window so I think we will have a great squad for league 1 football.

Agree with this to an extent, the squad we ended with is better than what we have now, but the squad that we started 20/21 with is certainly not better than what we have now.

Feeling optimistic.

Dale flatters to deceive - on the bench mostly at Portsmouth by the end of the season and they no interest in buying him. In my view, he did very little but score last Saturday when he came on as sub. His goal scoring record though is not great - 2 in 42 for Portsmouth

Is this a new game? Squeeze your own name randomly into a post 😂
