Is the FA Cup now our season?

We care deeply about the FA Cup, but the logistics of getting from Blackpool to Hartlepool for a 12:30 kick off are not pleasant. I'm sure you would bring lots of fans if the game was at Blackpool ,but there again, and I don't wish to condescend, there's a lot more going on in Blackpool than in Hartlepool, even in January.
Not condescending at all I like Blackpool personally even it has a poor reputation from some people around the country. Thing is with Hartlepool it's a traditional football ground, it's right in the town centre and next to the marina, so loads of bars around and widely known in the lower leagues now as having one of the best atmospheres in the leagues now. I know it's an awkward time of day to get to the match, but it will be a proper match between to old football league teams. All this resting players and whatever, why? It looks pretty much nailed on you will finish somewhere around mid table anyway.

Because we've just played 3 games in 6 days and at least four players could do with a rest.

Big win that yesterday. 10 clear of Hull who won't pick up more points than we do, 14 clear of Posh and I'd say the same about them and then with Barnsley and Derby gone and your likes of Bristol City, Cardiff and PNE 😉 down there, I'd say we have moved another step closer to safety.

So should that mean a full strength team on Saturday (none of this play Nuttall nonsense) and make this the competition that defines our season. It's about time we had a little adventure in this competition.
No staying up is still the goal
Until we reach that golden 50 ish point mark

there are players that need a bit of a break, but we can still put out a very strong team whilst giving some players a bit of a rest.

keshi, Madine, husband, kenny i think all need a bit of a break, Marv possibly as well

might be the ideal time to give Jerry and lavery a go up top together. Bowler should be able to play, connoly comes in in midfield, maybe give Antwi a run out as well. wouldnt mind seeing young Apter given some game time to see what he can do.
Wintle and Connolly maybe.

maybe but i would love to see Antwi given a chance, last year he looked a really class act in pre season, and the times he played in the cup games looked every inch a very good player.
Me too, but it's a step up from National League North where he's been playing lately. He was a bit anonymous in the Carabao Sunderland game earlier this season. And it would be good to beat Hartlepool, without risking any players who are crucial and overworked.

Critch said last season that he loves the FA cup and will try and get as far as we can in the competition. He will mix it up in my opinion but it will be a strong team, and rightly so.

Moore
Gabriel Keogh Gretarsson James
Mitchell Connolly Wintle CJ
Yates Lavery

With all our long term injuries in central midfield we are desperately short in that area so we need 2 new players in this window. I put Wintle in but he may have gone back, we have no one else to play there unless he plays Dougall and we have NO creative midfielders.

Looking forward to it and hopefully we will sell out our allocation - sounds like it's going to be a great atmosphere

I'd hardly call us tin pot we average 5200 despite being 15th in league 2 and regularly take 1000 to away games, if the boot was on the other foot and we were coming to your place we would of taken between 2000 and 3000. So I presume you have sold out your 1600 tickets or does no one care in Blackpool about the fa cup?
Not everyone thinks Hartlepool are tinpot. For years we were on the end of patronising comments like that and still are by the so called big clubs of the Championship such as recently by Middlesbrough.

I think it will be a tough game and hope we give it due respect.

See you there.

Least your in a decent end at our ground now, all standing. We have had a few issues since we introduced a singing section which became that popular it became overcrowded hence why they are trying to put us behind the opposite goal now with a low roof to increase volume levels as a bit of a try out.

Im not sure Middlesbrough can call anyone tin pot, I remember years ago we saved Middlesbrough from extinction by loaning them the ground, two games were played that day port vale v Boro and pools v Cardiff to say it was tasty was an understatement.

I am sorry you take offence but Im afraid you are a bit tinpot...not your fault as you have well supported clubs around you in Newcastle Boro and Sunderland and I know many in Hartlepool support one of those 3 teams. I have been to your ground on numerous occasions and always found it unwelcoming, freezing and unpleasant. Hordern Colliery Welfare also played us in the cup game there and that was particularly nasty. The fact the EFL deem it ok to have it as a 12.30 kick off will put even more people off going...I want to play a full team and see you off because I fear that if we dont it will be a difficult game for us. I hope the remainder of your season goes well but as I said I would like to slam you on Saturday.

Quite agree. I remember them having average gates of around 5,000 in the mid-80s. Like the other "bigger" North East clubs, there are a huge number of them who disappear at the first sign of hard times. It's not my idea of a footballing hotbed.

Absolutely non of the first team should play in the FA Cup imo. Staying in the Championship is paramount.

What's the point of having a decent cup run with the first team players and then be relegated because the players are knackered/injured (because of the cup run)
That's a bit overly dramatic Gaz. Death or glory? We ve a very strong first team squad, and, it would seem, a strong batch of confident youth team players.
A few of the first team fringe players, Casey, Gretts, Dale etc if fit and then your Apters, Bange, Antwi, Mariettes etc. Shake it up a bit and get excited for the future

Yes I know but he is. So give him a run out. If he can’t hack it against Hartlepool then it tells you something about him.
Rather see Nuttall or even the mythical Bez given a run out. Nothing against JJ but rather see one of our own stretching his legs, or making a breakthrough

All the more reason to try maybe Mariette, Antwi, Apter etc. I'm not saying for the whole game but one of those with an established first teamer could be quite interesting.
The magic of the cup and all that

Apter has gone to Chester, hasn't he?

Quite possibly. Easy to lose track over the festive season. Last I heard he'd nearly gone to Livingstone but then didn't
Nice to see you back posting

Just keeping my hand in, there will be plenty to discuss in 2022. Thank you though.

Hartlepool play decent football and they won’t be a push over on Saturday.

It’s a shame they’ve moved where the fans are but apparently the end we’re in creates a great atmosphere.

I might pick Trusty ahead of Antwi. If he's not suspended after that youth cup game!

If we're comparing places, Blackpool is a much more attractive away day than Hartlepool. If we're comparing clubs, Blackpool is a bigger tie to Hartlepool than Hartlepool is to Blackpool (not that we're particularly attractive I imagine, but still). The fact you reckon you'd bring over half of your average home attendance here basically proves that.

Add a 12:30 kick off, COVID and the fixture being not long after Christmas/New Year and I reckon it'd impact your away following as well. We also have the added factor that we're probably going to play youth and fringe players, so there is the possibility of spending money travelling at ridiculous o'clock to watch a League Two side beat our 2nd/3rd string whereas for you lot it'd be a chance to claim a Championship scalp and a piss up in Blackpool (or day out for the kids, always forget about that bit). I was meant to be coming myself but my old man isn't so keen now as in his words "I can't be arsed travelling all that way at that time to watch us play our kids", I reckon there is a lot of that going on. The change in kick off time has really shafted us, all for overseas audiences which I doubt many of them will be tuning in for Hartlepool vs Blackpool!

I wouldn't refer to you as tinpot though, not defending that comment. But for all the reasons listed, it isn't the most attractive fixture for Blackpool fans and that's reflected in the ticket sales - whereas a trip to Blackpool for you lot wouldn't be too shabby!

Take no notice of the tinpot derogatory nonsense. No manners some people!

It's 63 quid on the train from Manchester so I'm out I'm afraid. Hartlepool is one place I've never been, would like to some time.

Yeah I get quite a lot of that, both teams fans probobly don't find the game the most enthralling maybe and I imagine you get a hell of a lot away fans due to Blackpool being a lively place.

You believe we are tin pot because people in our town support other clubs? We average 5200 in league 2 with a population of 90000 or so. Are you telling me Blackpool is solely tangerine? Playing in the Championship and getting crowds of around 10000 with a population of over 140000. I'm sure if roles were reversed you would get very similar crowds to what were getting now and we wouldn't be far short of 10000, we had almost 6000 for Harrogate and we aren't propped up by good away followings. You mentioned Horden that must of been many years ago, they are a strange breed up there, saying that though the only trouble I've ever almost been involved in was after a play off game at Blackpool, it's never put me off. As for it being cold in Hartlepool, the weather must be Barmy in Lancashire this time of year.

You will never get to the championship Angus so dont worry about that...I really am pleased you are back in the league where you belong but that is what you are a tinpot middle to lower div 2 side...good luck on Saturday...I almost mean it 🤪🤪🤪🤪

If youd been there then you would know what I mean and you wouldnt want to go again...Horden was like a scene from the Warriors with mobs of Sunderland Boro and Newcastle aswell as a load of deranged hills have eyes miners

We would of if we had been cheated in the play offs against Sheff Wed lol. Anyway let's hope you play your third string we wouldn't mind getting Newcastle away in the 4th round for some money.

I've cycled through Horden many a time, it hasn't changed or improved, in fact the collieries they used to come down and fight poolies when Hartlepool was a good night out.I'm not sure Boro will of been involved, once you get within 3 miles of Hartlepool the love for Boro stops. Very few in hartlepool ever go to Boro, Newcastle then yeah you might get a load of them travelling on the train.

Strange description / no manners. 😉

Back to who you'd play - assuming James has recovered from Covid and Dale is allowed to play, I'd pick:
Moore
Sterling Casey Gretarson Mitchell
Hamilton Connolly James Dale
Yates Lavery

Anyone know how we can watch this game on tv. It doesn’t seem to be available on TTV even from abroad.

No Wintle suggests Dougall will have to play ? Unless a signing comes in who is eligible to play.
Playing Connelly & James (if fit) is more or less playing 2 extra defenders. Maybe that’s the tactic ? Play no one in the centre of the park & bypass it ……

I think no Wintle means Dougall shouldn't play. We need to look after him.

The way it's going, I wouldn't be surprised if 40 points ends up being enough (just).
Lots of points to be won by the teams below us playing one another so I’d sooner go for 50 points for safety.
Lets hope there are plenty of drawn games!
