Everyone needs to calm down a bit. Yes it’s a blow, but I personally think we have missed a bullet.

We shouldn’t have to sell the club to players, they should want to join us whatever. Either Brannigan lacks ambition or is settled in the area and doesn’t want to move.

Every club on planet fail to sign targets for different reasons, doesn’t mean shit tbh.

On the plus side, at least we aren’t skint🙃🙃.

Every club needs to sell themselves to targets.

However in this case the ‘target’ (and evidently his family) was already sold on where he was. They were prepared to push the boat out financially too…

Do you seriously think that a bit of the old silver tongue treatment was ever going to overcome that?
If he has no interest then an experienced operator like Mansford should have seen it coming.

It all seemed a bit desperate and naive.

Fair enough, but that should be picked up beforehand in an ideal world I suppose, it's more a response to the OP suggesting that all our targets are desperate to play here.
Well they should be. We shouldn’t have to sell the club to anyone.
I personally think we have been played big time. We have chased Brannigan for over 6 months now, the club must have been given some idea he was interested, otherwise they surely would have fucked it off?!

There’s an argument to suggest we’ve probably wasted too much time on the player and maybe we should / could have seen it coming….

That said, is it really realistic to think we can afford to pull out or avoid potential targets on the basis of a ‘hunch’ ?

It’s all well and good is lot being wise after the event…. At the end of the day the club are trying to do the best they can in a world full of shysters…

But that makes us seem like some virginal debutante on a night out on Central Drive, which we're not, Mansford is an ex agent who's already been the CEO of other clubs, he should know better? The owner runs a hugely successful hedge fund in Hong Kong, these aren't green kids.

We weren't interested apparently all summer and then we suddenly were?

We'll move on, the club is fine and in good hands, but questions should be asked about this summer, it's been a bit of a shit show.

I think there is some clause in his contract where his release clause activates after a certain date.

Does it … really?

Or is that just an expression of our personal disappointment being aimed at the most convenient target?

To sign players we’ve got to expose our heads above the parapet at some point. I’d rather see us in there trying and failing than not at all…

If folk want to get all embarrassed about it then that’s an issue for them….

I’m sure Mansford will just move in to the next target 👍

Hopefully with a bit more success.

I'm over reacting, but that's fine by me.

Thinking about it, we've offered good money, probably more than he's worth given the amounts were talking about for Bowler, but thats the release clause.

We'll have offered decent wages within our structure. But Oxford seem to have gone silly with their league 1 wages for him, which might only create disharmony in the group if he's paid so much more, but whatever.

It’s disappointing but we move on and try again.

If this was the only one, it would be less annoying but there's been more, some for different reasons.

The medical of Bishop, we don't know all the details but you can see why with our injury record you might not take any chances.

But again doesn't look good, he instantly then signs for Portsmouth.

The deals pre and during Scotland that seemingly didn't happen or were the loans, but seems unlikely as they were later. The Lyons deal breaking down. Even the previous Brannagan saga, messing around.

I get not being held to ransom or paying more than we think they're worth, plus having our own wage structure, but its clearly not worked very well this summer.

Maybe the club didn't expect them to offer so much to keep him, there will be other good players who's clubs won't be able to offer silly money to keep them, let's hope we get one soon.

Just awful timing with regards to hype and excitement for selling tickets with repeated failures.

I’ve had to drag myself back from the brink tonight tbh.

It’s an absolute shit show from a fans perspective. You go from buzzing to completely ** flat because some ** has essentially angled our club to get a better deal where he is.
A scenario that has been played out many a time and at bigger clubs than ours. We'll kick off on Saturday 100 percent behind them and at some stage we'll bag a loan or signing that tickles our spot. Meanwhile the fat lad in the white trabbs has spunked his budget. Onward.

Gaz with a hatrick on Saturday... 👍

It happens all the time in every industry….

Employee interviews elsewhere
Employee gets new job offer on better terms
Original company offers better terms
Employee stays

Also an employee is generally more susceptible to a counter offer when they have to relocate for no other reason than work.

- people need to live in the real world and understand this happens every day all over the world and not just in football.

Good OP. This happens in all walks of life especially in the times we live in and us fans don’t really know how the negotiations went particularly from our end, but if CB is content with staying in L1 then he completely lacks any ambition to play at a higher level, he’s not the first and he won’t be the last!

💯 - happens in every job . There is other fish in the sea - it wasn’t meant be so we move on . Clearly some games being played here in my opinion . Cameron B will of done quite well out of this . Probably a decent pay rise and he gets to keep his pond

You couldn't write it... Club in dire straits and in free fall gets taken over by a fan that completely turns the clubs fortunes and future around, developed a strong squad of players but fans not happy. FFS so we don't sign a player so what there are others. Thank you luck stars we have Saddler and we're competing in the championship. We should backing the club not slagging it off. What a bunch tests we have for some of our fans.
