It’s Southampton away

We played the Youth team in 2010/11 during the Premiership year. Rested the first team for LIverpool away the following midweek, which turned out to be an excellent decision.

By my reckoning that’s Portsmouth, Southampton (twice), Brighton, and Reading away in the FA Cup since 2004. And the only one that’s a decent day out (Brighton) was during Covid.
1.5 - 2 miles ? 20 minute walk tops.

I remember as a 10 year old in 1975 watching us beat Burnley who were in Div 1 at the time in the 3rd round at Bloomers. We drew Southampton in the 4th who went on the win it in May 76. I don't know why I felt a need to post this, it just sparked a memory.

Rubbish draw and Blackburn to be moved, absolute shitter.

I spoke to 70's Pool legend Bill Bentley about that Burnley game last season in the Armfield on the night before the QPR Sky daylight robbery. Him and many other 70s players were in town for the Tony Green birthday celebration. What a lovely couple him and his wife are. Even bought me a Guinness 😀
There were 20 thousand at Bloomfield Road that day, a bit different to the feeble crowd yesterday. Bill Bentley not only managed to get Ray Hankin sent off, he also scored the only goal. One of my all time favourite Pool matches.

Went to the last FA Cup tie against the Saints at the old Dell in 1976. Went on a Football Special train from Blackpool straight to Southampton. Got beat 3 - 1. Anybody else do that trip ?

If they’re actually running🫣.
Appears from National Rail that the services will not be running as scheduled. On a good day it’s 4 hours from Manchester and never ‘cheap’.

Looking at Eastern Airways Man - Sou it’d need to be Friday to Sunday and around £250 return.

Not the best draw but certainly not the worst either. A chance for our players to play beatable Premier League opposition in a nice stadium in front of what should be a decent crowd. From a supporters point of view it is far from ideal but that's the luck, or unluck, of the draw. Given Blackburn also won, that fixture was never going to go ahead, so I'm less worried about that.
