It's Coming Out, It's Coming Out

I've been reading quite a lot about the Lionesses (hate that) and see that quite a few of them are lesbians. Thank goodness that in 2022 they are proud to talk about their partners or spouses.

And yet we still just have Jake Daniels who has the integrity to "come out". I thought more would follow him, but sadly none yet.

I wonder how long it will take?

I don't think a persons sexuality is that relevant anymore. I know many people who are straight, but some who are gay as well. It bears no relevance on how i see them or how i treat them. They are just decent people who i class as friends no matter who they choose to sleep with.

Those who are hung up on a persons sexual preference need to grow up and move on.

Yes, I think I can see your point

I’m not sure it’s just about the crowds to be perfectly honest. I think that the dressing room is also a factor and that in the case of female football (where if we are being honest) lesbians are quite prevalent, the environment is just different and more accepting.

I probably assumed society had moved on further than it has. I actually think we are still decades away from a situation where men will feel comfortable being themselves in football… Jake is an exception… I doubt we’ll see too many more and I don’t blame them tbh.

But why should they?

Not sure anyones that bothered really about other people relationship preference…,and their given hero status for sharing it ? Why..? As i’m sure most couldn’t care less…
If a footballer came out as being bang into threesomes would it be applauded for their honesty ? 🤣

Unfortunately we live in a country where people are still at risk of violence or abuse because of their sexuality….

So whilst I agree that we probably shouldn’t care about other peoples sexuality, plenty do care it seems.

So that means society needs role models in order that we can maybe get to a point where most (if not everyone) can learn to be accepting of other people.

Jake Daniels got the publicity it got because it was a historic moment in the men's game.

If it was more of a regular occurrence, it would not have got such a big media frenzy.

Who cares apart from you, how many times, just get a life👍🏻

Who cares apart from you
I think therein lies the problem. We should all care. Had a mate who took his own life about 10 years ago - nobody from his family to workmates to friends knew he was gay until it was too late. Didn't feel he could come out to anyone and didn't like the person he was because of that. For a few years after that I joined an LGBTQ+ support line because I felt so bad about it and if you heard some of the stories on there, you'd know why we have to change as a society so that we all care about everyone's sexuality, anxiety, depression and things that people carry on an every day basis. I'm hetro but that time with the support line taught me so much about how much people hide who they are every day.
There was a thread on here a few weeks ago about the chant 'you're only here for the gay bars' and the fact so many thought it was just harmless banter sadly reflects why were are where we are as a society.

I’m reading seven of them are gay, pretty unrepresentative really, just as much as they’re saying the number of whites are unrepresentative. Well done to them though, fantastic achievement.

My understanding is that the upper end of ladies sport tends to attract a disproportionate number of gay women, almost the polar opposite of mens sports.

So the bloke who landed on the moon was gay, who cares, I don’t as it never happened anyway, it was all filmed in a tv studio, princess Diana was assassinated by gay people in a tunnel though & that’s a fact regardless of their sexuality it was out of order
Graham love - whatever substance you’ve popped in your plastic bag, I’d stop sniffing it for a while.
