I've now seen the highlights

and feel I can now comment on the three goals, having cleared up one or two things that I wasn't sure about.

First goal: I initially thought came from a poor pass from Casey but it was an even worse pass from Norburn! Marv did what he does best and put his body on the line but the striker read it, checked back and bought the penalty. Fair enough, that's sadly the way the game is played these days and Marv got caught out.

I've never really understood why goalkeepers chose a direction to dive before the striker even runs up, there are that many poor penalties and penalties straight down the middle that waiting and picking off the poor or straight ones would surely be more effective. Grimshaw did what most keepers do... 1-0.

Second goal: From the opposite end it looked like Grimshaw had flapped and missed it but the replay shows otherwise, it was a very good shot but Grimshaw didn't even seem to bother trying! A good keeper may not have got to it but a good keeper would have at least made an effort and got somewhere near it, surely! More importantly, where the fuck were the midfield? Rhodes was the only one trying to stop the run!

Goal 3: All about Norburn! Didn't mark his man but did get back to try to put it right. Grimmy maybe could have done better but, having been booked a couple of minutes earlier, Norburn lost the plot and dragged the striker back... Game over!

Grimmy: See diving early comment above!

Some players had a very bad day at the office today but the overall performance was far more encouraging than of late. Next week may tell us if it was a one off or not!

It certainly wasn’t more encouraging to those that had to endure it live. I’d go so far to say that it was the worst performance since Rotherham away last Sept or against the Nobbers in April

If a keeper stands his ground, strikers quickly learn that and cue the ball being passed in the bottom corner with ease time and again. It's a mind game and maybe a keeper takes a punt at standing still occasionally, especially if his research shows the striker likes to do that regularly. Otherwise it's eeny meany miney mo time as most pens go one side or the other so keepers pick a side and give themselves a 50/50 chance of having a 50/50 chance of saving it*

*Maths strictly made up without any evidence or research! 🙂

A decent keeper will have a decent chance of getting to a "passed" penalty but not a well placed strike. we see very few well placed strikes so let's play the averages and hold our ground for the inevitable poor penalty or down the middle penalty!

To be completely honest I don't think we were actually that bad today. In attack I thought we were much more promising than we have been, Rhodes looked pretty sharp which surprised me. It was a disproportionate scoreline overall. That being said, some of the defending was pretty shambolic.

P.S Hamilton needs to be dropped. His ball control and crossing is genuinely that of a conference player. Why not just play Lyons on the right and Husband or Thompson on the left? CJ isn't working and hasn't been since the word go.

The average Conference player has far better ball control than Hamilton!

What worries me is that Critchley rates him when at best he’s a plan b option
On what planet is CJ an automatic starter in our team ?
He may be an automatic with what’s currently at our disposal as a left winger in a 4-4-2. Otherwise even Albert Einstein would query what the fuck is going on

All this possession shit does is give the opposition time to build their defence. You've got to put the other team on the back foot. All this 40, 50, 60 passes does is waste time going nowhere.
Possession with a purpose is good football, we aren't playing that game. Too many of our players lack the speed of thought and technical ability to play that way. This is being compounded by a coach who isn't as clever as he thinks is. If he doesn't admit that he has got this wrong then we are in trouble. The problem isn't the formation, it's the players he picks, where he puts them and the instructions he gives them!
Hamilton and Connolly as wing backs on the wrong side of the pitch and Ekpiteta as a ball playing centre back is bizarre.
If Critchley thinks playing wing backs on the wrong side of the pitch is a good idea in an attacking sense why did he switch them at half time when we needed a goal?

The much vaunted defence, keeping clean sheets is now the problem it seems, tbh, but for good luck and poor opposition, we’d have been found out from day one. Critchley needs a massive rethink, or we’re in trouble.

The issue isn’t whether this was worse than any other performance or not. The issue is the persistence with a system that makes us play varying degrees of crap nearly every game. If this had been another nil nil it simply wouldn’t be good enough but we’d have the same “solid point on the road”, “”base to build on” posts on here. The fact we got hammered is the icing on the shit cake (to which Critchley would no doubt describe the bread as being fantastic and looking the part)

It wasn’t as bad a performance as everyone is making out. We did dominate the ball and comfortably had the best chances of the game:

Connolly blazing over
Rhodes 1vs1
CJ open net
Header from corner on roof of the net
Lavery in behind, poor pass to Beesley

I never wanted to see CJ again after yesterday but he created the first 2. As dopey as he is.

My issue is Critch seeming content and spinning this narrative of ‘we started well, but didn’t get any luck’. Starting nicely and full of energy means nothing if you can’t sustain it past the 10 minute mark. That, to me, tells me the players are up for it, but the system is wrong.

We need a left wing back. And if Gabriel isn’t going to be fit, a right wing back too. If Gabriel is fit, I think he will be massive for us.

We also need a tricky dribbler who can play across the front line. Stick him in behind the strikers for now, and use him as a winger in a new system if 352 continues to draw/lose us games.

Hopefully yesterday was the kick up the arse they needed.

I think he panicked.

One of them chances goes in early and it’s probably a different game. The Connolly one pissed me off because I just knew he would blaze it over because he always does. Can’t he for fuckin once think I’m gonna keep it low.

Crotchety is stubborn if makes no changes panicking when he does. Criticized for possession play and when we go long. Pointless debates suggesting 4 4 2_would be so much better than 3 5 2. I don't think tactics are our crucial failing. We needed to hook EkiI and find a tricky winger/ playmaker which to be fair we are shopping for with Banks and Moxon. Failing that Apter at left wing back.must be worth a shot.
important week coming up but predictable anti Crutch backlash is not going to help.

Unfortunately once we go behind and the opposition doesn't have to attack we don't have the gameplan, style of play or firepower to turn it around!

Interesting quote from a Lincoln fan...

"In all honesty Lincoln aren't the 4th best team in the League but they have a method that works. They will frustrate the hell out of teams but when they get a chance will take it. Blackpool today, just ran out of ideas, they are a neat footballing side but are physically lightweight in this League."

Our fans are calling for flair & creativity and he thinks we need to toughen up!

We don't know where we're goin'
But we do know where we've been
And we know what we're wanting
But we don't like what we're seeing

But we're not little children
We know what he needs to do
'Cos the future's uncertain
While we're stuck with 3-5-2

We're on a road to nowhere
With Critchley's side
Takin' that ride to nowhere
The spirit has died.

We have a tricky dribbler, he is called Apter

He’s not good enough for top 6. Drives me mad when fans moan about our lack of progress in one breath, then ask for players who aren’t ready in the next. He needs to go out on loan or be used once games are dead and buried.

See we have been linked with Ryan Longman from Hull. I’ve normally never seen/can’t remember players we sign, but Longman has always stood out against us. Would be a top signing.

All about opinions
It drives me mad when a cornerstone of our future planning is to bring players through, but they never get the opportunity. By the way think he is a far better option than CJ

Simply ,we were pants ,but with a bit of a silver lining ,we actually could have scored a couple if it had not been for the terrible shooting.

Lincoln weren't that impressive to be honest. They have a system. They work to it.

We gave them 2 needless penalties and let them basically take a free strike after a shit pass for the 2nd goal.

Also, their number 6 is shite. I don't care he scored. Celebrating in front of our fans. He'll be playing conference football soon. Wanker.
