Given his injury and lack of appearances, maybe we should revisit him a little.

26 years old, 6 foot 1. Signed in January 2022 from Rochdale for an undisclosed fee, 3.5 year deal with the option of a further year.

He got off to a flyer against Birmingham.

His injury obviously set him back and when he returned it takes time to get over that, he was also played out of position.

It'll be interesting to see how he does, he's definitely been written off by some, but made an impact the other night vs Derby.

The goals will give him confidence, he's tall enough that he can hold up play, flick on, but he has a bit of pace and movement too. Decent at getting on crosses in the air but also scoring on the deck. He seems to put himself about and give 100%.

In many ways he's still a bit like a new signing, with a chance to prove himself under the man who signed him, with some order restored at our club.

Seems a good character too.

Good luck Jake, let's hope he continues to show us what he can do.

Who scored the disallowed goal last Saturday?

I feel a very good partnership coming up once the team has settled. Do you man mark a 6 foot plus goal scorer or a little fellow who is like a terrier at your heals all the time?

Beesley scored but was clearly offside…finished it well though.

To be honest i thought he hit a weak shot straight at the keeper who dived out of the way! Bees is rapidly winning me over though. Great character and gives 100%. And will get goals.

Thought he hadn't shown much in previous years, and pre season he appeared very ordinary at best.

I thought he did well though against Burton, and obviously scored twice against derby.

I just wonder if his downfall might be that he has no real strengths we have seen yet, he isn't a perfect target man, he's not a poacher like Shane etc, I think if he can become a quality finisher, and hold the ball up a bit bette then he might be just what critch is looking for

Decent O/P @JJpool

Some had written him off in preseason but he was just getting fit again and he already looked decent against Burton.

Players will never apply themselves fully until the season gets properly going.

He does feel like a new signing. Physicality with a bit of pace and the first goal at Derby showed that killer instinct we lacked last season. I’d say we did see it from Yates and Lav at Burnley away, Preston at home and that’s about it!

Well see, but he has shown some good strikers instincts in the brief moments we've seen. Unlucky not to get the hat-trick vs Birmingham.

He is decent in the air, on the floor, ok maybe not a master of anything but a variety of skills should be useful and if he's given service should bag some mote goals.

Just needs to get off the mark in the league.

I thought he was a couple of inches taller than that at he looks it on the pitch?

He’s certainly got goals in him as in his brief cameos in the Championship he was often in the right place and finished well. He’s probably not a big statue target man like Madine or Niall Quinn was but he’s good in the air (he won most of his duals) and quicker than most target men I’ve seen.

Let’s hope he keeps fit and keeps developing as we will certainly need to rotate our strikers.

Apparently Jake is 1.85m and Kyle Joseph is 1.86m.

So Jake isn't our tallest striker if so.

Look at his record. Do we really think he’s suddenly going to get better at 26? Get real folks
I think he was playing well at Rochdale in L2 and the step up to L1 is well within his compass. If he stays fit he'll have a good season for us. He offers something different. Critch is moulding him. Is he a Championship player? Maybe not, but first things first.

Why not? Rochdale weren't exactly a top league 1 side creating tons of chances.

Critchley believed he can do it, he lost his way due to injury and then being played out of position.

I think if we get good balls into him he'll score, as shown.

A lot of positives in this thread. Everyone loves a goal scoring hero. It’s a long time since we unearthed a “goal machine“. Think our last one wasn’t quite 26 when he reached our total adulation. Still around BFC too.

He waited for the keeper to move and then put it the other side of him.

I saw Jake when he was at Bradford, on loan from Salford and he had a massive impact on their season scoring every time I went.
I think with the midfield that we now have, I'm confident Jake and the other striker's will get plenty of opportunities, Which is something I have not been able to say in recent years. Even Jerry had to create a lot of his goals, not too many ( team) goals.

He's an awkward looking character - in the Peter Crouch mould I think. Took the first goal well at Derby, although the second was totally gifted and even I could have put that in. He should get opportunities this season, injuries permitting and he needs to take those opportunities.
