James 'long ball' Husband

He’s a good enough left back at this level. He definitely isn’t a wing back or a centre back in a back four and for me I don’t really like him in that left of a back 3 position either. I wouldn’t be offering him a contract either

Another player who has suffered due to a formation that doesn’t suit a number of players and he’s a much better left back.

Decent player hindered by crap tactics. When he plays those long balls he is clearly doing it under instruction. We have started to completely bypass the midfield and go long and that is clearly part of a (crap) tactical plan. We used to a least try and pass it around the midfield (mainly sideways and backwards) but now we don’t even bother doing that. Very clearly a tactical switch.

During our relatively poor home games this season (0-0 draws with Orient and PV for example), I thought he was the player who showed the most urgency in getting forward to get the ball into their box. I agree he's better as a LB in a back 4, so he could be one of the players who have struggled with the back 3 (or 5) formation.

But as Kurt says, his performances haven' been quite as good in the last Month or so. As already posted, if he is offered a contract, would he want to stay?

Personally I think he's one of the better players and is more composed on the ball, I hope he stays.

He has been a good servant for us but too many long balls wasted this season and today' and a good replacement will be required next season.

Bollox been one of most consistent players if not the most consistant this season.

Who is a better lb in our squad?
We haven't got one.
He consistently has the most touches of any Blackpool player and for that reason you'd like him to be your very best player.
He's never been the most naturally gifted player but he's got lots of other attributes that would probably put his picture on the wall as one of our best players of the "20s".
But it's all about succession planning and we need to find Hubby Mk2.

FFS, do people just get high on calling our players?
When we were passing it about sideways and backwards (but keeping possession) some people moaned
It’s only the last couple of games where Hubby has started to play the long ball where normally he would have took the ball down the left and then got a cross over. He has hit his target with the long ball far more than he has missed so give the bloke some fcuking credit instead of having a go.
And it is also bollox when people say the formation has spoilt his game. As long as he has been here he has played the same role and he is comfortable doing so in that position and he plays well
In fact I would go as far as saying he has been the most reliable player so far this season.

Unfortunately some on AVFTT do.

He’s our best on the ball defender and started the season excellently and was our most creative player in those two 0-0 draws early on.

He has dipped lately no doubts, but he’s one of only players who gives the ref shit and puts a few tackles in when needed.

I see him taking responsibility every game on the ball but due to lack of options to feet, a left wing-back who makes bizarre runs to get the ball and a clear instruction to ping that long diagonal it’s not been his best spell.

A blessing that his contract is up at the end of the season, time to move on from this one trick pony. Thanks Hubby and goodbye, enjoy league two
Totally agree. I’ve no time for him myself. Often plays a long ball to nobody! The guys I sit with can’t understand why I dislike him, but I can’t understand what they like about him!

Only thing that frustrates me are the silly yellow cards. Otherwise, quality reliable player. Definite asset to the squad and also appears to be a strong character in the group.

Started well and in contention for one of the better players of the season.

Dropped off a fair bit in recent months and has just been hoofing aimlessly many times.

Then again so have much of the back line.

I admit I am probably Husband's critic over the last few years, all the managers we have had over that time have tried to replace him. I am not going to name them all but he is still here and still in the team.
That has shown me that it's not that easy to upgrade the team with our budget.
I still think we need better in certain positions but at this time I do not think Husband is the no 1 priority.
We have brought in a left wing back from the championship to add quality.
You tell me who is the main threat and who supplies the most crosses into the box from the left ,yes Husband and he is supposed to be playing LCH.
I also thought Husband was one of the few players to come out of the Stevenage game with any credit.

Been a great servant Jimmy and a top bloke.
I think some especially on here expect masterclass performances from our players every week but unfortunately for them this isn’t football manager.
I’d be more than happy if he signed up for another year or two.

He's definitely a great character and experienced player too, just could do with getting back to some better form.

Sadly he's another with no real pace, like much of our back line.

I saw an interview last year when he said he was one of the fastest players in our squad. Never seen him as a slouch.

It's time to move on, we'll never improve if we just stick with the current squad. Hubby's what, 4 years here. It's stale for both parties, time to move on. Some on here want to renew every contract that ever runs out, talk about stagnation

Rarely gets done for pace & obviously under instructions from poundland Pep to hit those diagonals. Like Wiz says no one to rotate him with so maybe fatigue setting in a bit.

He certainly has decent pace

He doesn't strike me as particularly fast these days, him not being done much is more because he's experienced too.

Our back line lacks real pace bar Gabriel, who's obviously playing wing back.

We've seen many times this season where on ball over the top has seen us badly exposed.

Defensively we don't look that strong. Pace is one aspect, knowing how to defend is another and not putting ourselves into trouble too.

I actually think he’s better in this position now than as a left back, feel like he’s quite vulnerable there.

Personally feel like his season has been solid at this level, my main complaint is that he does this thing where instead of passing back to the keeper, he turns towards the touchline and boots it forward, for us to usually give it away. If he didn’t do that and looked for a simple pass, I feel like it would benefit us hugely.

Eki is the only central defender with any pace.

Yep and if he isn't playing, Casey, Pennington and Husband aren't quick. They're not Ben Heneghan slow but that's just as well.

I think our back line needs investment and work of we are to achieve our goal.

I'm not wanting to move someone on just because they've been her a significant period. If they're the right player for the position, they can see out their career if both parties are happy for them to.

I do accept he plays the majority of our long balls forward, and probably under instruction to do so. He is also a very combative and committed defender and I'm happy he's with us.

My only issue with him is actually his discipline. He's getting booked regularly at the moment, but for dissent rather than bad challenges. Which means we're going to be without him for suspension reasons, or he's regularly walking a tightrope in a game, which given Jimmy's committed approach leaves him vulnerable to reds.

In fact given our number last season, it's surprising how well we've turned that round generally this time.

I thought he was a potential player of the season up until late November but he has steadily declined since then and looks tired and jaded now..he is a yellow card waiting to happen every game and will see a red before the season is out
