January transfer rumour thread Part 1

You could be right, they may not have been happy with him for a while now.
Not exactly splashed the cash have they, loan’s?
Nothing wrong with a good conspiracy but are the Board hanging fire on the next signings to give the new Manager an opportunity to quickly identify someone.
Also do you think a potential replacement has been tapped up already and actually asked to identify who/what HE wants.
The problem isn't of course the quality of players we have it's the lack of quality in putting the team together.

I’d like to think potential replacements have been sounded out.

They must be looking, especially after that team selection last Saturday.
Sure he was taking the piss out of the supporters as well as the board.
I can’t believe the board are happy regardless of their faith in him at the start. I really believe he’ll be potted if we lose on Saturday (particularly if we’re terrible) could be toxic

Sounds like wishful thinking, the board will do what they think is the best solution. I think he will be hear for the season.

Appleton will have had zero influence on the signings apart from Morgan Rogers. Trybull was completely down to Chris Badlan.
I thought generally the manager says I need a defensive big Fkin German type midfielder and the recruitment team come back with a choice within budget, granted Chris Badlan would of been highly influential but I am sure Apples would have an input.

Spot on there is no way Chris Badlan is recruiting any players without Appleton’s input, support and agreement. You can’t have a Manager who is held totally responsible on here for results, performances, injuries, suspensions and style of play without him pulling the levers and having the final decision on who comes in and who goes out. If what is being suggested is actually happening then Appleton’s position would be totally untenable if it isn‘t already.

Any idea if loan or perm?

I feel like with every signing it increases the chances of Appleton staying, if there his signings. I guess if they’re the new guy from Coventry’s signings, it’s irrelevant who’s manager to a point.
Yes I am sure it is the Board’s objective to give Appleton what he wants and whilst the new guy from Coventry is a very important cog in the machine I am 100% sure there are no players coming in or leaving without Appleton’s approval and agreement. At the end of Jan this will be Appleton’s team and he will be totally responsible if Blackpool are relegated.

Not a chance the recruitment wagon is still moving faster than it has for many years, I expect this to be BFC’s best Jan transfer window in our history.
That bars about as high as a snails testicles!! It's 2 loans, decent loans but loans non the less and an unknown central midfielder, wait till the summer when all the loans have gone back and a load of our contracted players leave as many of them have contracts who run out and if we are in League 1 it will be even worse. The transfer windows for the past year have been a joke.

Better than Reid and Beattie????? Impossible.
Yes that was a very memorable Jan transfer window. Andy Reid for £1M plus James Beattie and Kornilenko, all 3 were internationals back then but they wouldn’t get into Blackpool’s team today. We also nearly signed Shay Given on loan in that Jan window.

Are you serious we have already signed two players on loan for the rest of the season valued at £4M (Bowler) and £3M (Rogers) respectively plus the permanent signing of a very experienced central defensive midfielder who has previously played loads of games in the Championship and Premier League with Norwich. Two weeks still to go and Appleton is talking about 2 or 3 more players coming in and no doubt a similar number leaving. So far, fingers crossed, we have not lost anybody I would want to keep. If Pool were relegated to Div 1 which contracted players in our current squad do you think would be targeted by Championship Clubs? How many contracted players in our squad would command a transfer fee of more than £500K?

I like your optimism but didn't we bring Charlie and DJ in during the same January window? 🤔
Not sure, certainly Charlie came on loan in Feb 2009 and signed permanently in Sept 2009 and for £500K one of our best ever signings. DJ was signed by Pool 3 times, twice on loan and once permanently.

I somehow doubt this window will beat January 2009! DJ, Ormerod, Charlie and quite a few others!
Yes I agree about those 3 even though Brett was 32 and came on a free from Preston. I hope we don’t sign 13 players in this transfer window, do you have the list of players who went Out in that same window? I think 2008/9 was the season when we used 45 players, I wouldn’t want a repeat of that situation. 6 wins and 25 points from the last 20 games that season similar to what we need this season.

If it brings in 3 players who have as much impact as DJ, Ormerod and Charlie, I'd be over the fecking moon!

Seems like it wasn't a bad effort for a conspiracy theory.

Really? Who'd join a club not knowing if there's even a chance the manager will pick them?
By that I mean that we’re not currently close to signing anybody. As I’ve stated a few times, Appleton has had very limited input on recruitment, probably because the club has been trying since November to replace him. He’s just been plodding on waiting for the inevitable.

This short term appointment of McCarthy is a disaster for further recruitment this window.
Will Bowler, Rodgers, Trybull, all fit in with his style of play which is hoofball?
Any new incomings now will be McCarthy’s signings he’s here till May what about the players long term how long a contract are we going to give them in light we may well be playing league one football next season.
It really is a mess bringing in a manager/coach short term (yes I know it had to happen) and at the same time trying to bring in players when they don’t know what league they will be playing in next season.
I hope I am proved wrong but just can’t see this working out with the short term appointment of McCarthy balancing it against further signings which have to be much longer say 12/18 months minimum.
So good luck with that one Simon I think you may well need a crystal ball.

If we do get in some McCarthy type signings then I don't think it will be a bad thing really. We often look short and soft. Carey and Patino in midfield? Both goalkeepers are short. Putting in some height and muscle into a side with the likes of Bowler and Patino could bring the best out of them and make the side more balanced and solid.
