January transfer targets

He hasn't been available for a lot of the games, either suspended, injured or international duty. Ekpiteta on 4 bookings so he will get a chance to play again soon.
Well, we've played 17 games and if he was to get a yellow at AccverminEastLancston he'd miss 1 game. If he doesn't and he gets to 19 games without a yellow he's back to zero again.
And l hope that’s the reason Arsenal will extend his loan to get games under his belt.
Hardly compelling reasons.

I really think there is very little pressure on us this window. Hopefully extend Ballard loan early doors, but then sit back and see what develops. The squad is good enough to achieve promotion as it is but an extra proven striker would be nice.
Sarkic must be better as a striker than we have seen so far and hope both he and Lubala come good

The opposite imo. SS wanted promotion and you can see it's a possibility, so the pressure is to improve the prospect by bringing in some quality.

It won't be a busy window because of wage cap and squad size. I don't think it will be easy to move players on and other than Devitt I'm not sure who else is due back.
Ekipeta doesn't go back to zero. The next hurdle is 10 yellow cards for a 2 match ban and whilst I agree that won't be reason to keep him I'm pretty sure he will stay.

37 league games for 10 yellows cut off I think. 19 for 5.

Interesting piece this from UTMP. Not sure what will happen in January but the last one of these looks at league two at the start of the summer had Lubala and Yates on the list.

And the club signed them. Both thinking along the same lines. League one/two lads with potential upside to them in the last year of their contracts.

You shift in and out. And 19 for 5 is the cut off.

Some clever football knowlegers out there....I think there was Dubs in Ireland who put names forward who came good.

It could be a good source, just having people peek down rabbit holes the club would'nt normally do.

We purposely left one place and a few Bob free for Jan the rest will depend on out goings.

Yeah Dub has come up with a few from local leagues but with leaving the EU not sure how that area will work. Ireland is a well scouted place that we've had no established presence so it would always be second pickups from there for us I would think.

Scotland maybe next because of our new HOFO?

I must admit I'm not 100% up to speed on salary caps, but I'd assume existing contracts aren't included, nor loaned out players (Feeney on 3.5k after some idiot triggered a clause by accident). If that is the case the cap may not be as big a problem, also we don't know the finances/investment thrown in to offset wages.

On squad size I'm sure some juggling could be done and if it can't it really highlights the scattergun approach in the summer.

I don't expect many in, but I think they may be quality. Replace the loans would be the simplest way in a salary/size context.

For once I hope we do very little business in January. The madness of the last few windows has always seen us struggle to settle. We have a good squad now, need to offload some out the door, but very few in the door for me.

Existing contracts are included BUT limited at the level of the divisional average. Loan fees reduce the spend so a good proportion of Feeney's wages will be included still. Interestingly Andy Holt said last night on the podcast that Accy's wages were running at about 50% of the cap. He also called out a certain reporter from the Daily Mail but didnt actually hear what the young reporter had said about today's match. Any ideas?

How does one trigger a clause by accident?!

Thanks for that

miscalculation, perhaps?

With Teddy Howe, Jordan Thorniley and Oliver Sarkic potentially on their way out, that would provide three gaps in the 22-man squad (assuming we keep one free for an emergency keeper).

We’ve taken a look at who could potentially be targets for the club in January:

I expect little movement in or out in January. The most likely is that the loans will be extended. The wage cap and squad limits mean it is unlikely we will be able to offload players or sign anyone significant. Secondly, the continuing Covid situation will mean few players will want to move before the summer

Hope we don’t upset the balance too much. One striker and a couple of outgoings and I’ll be happy.

Really good piece.

The article alludes to it but I think the real test of this transfer window will be to trim some of the fat, fat incidentally we needed during the summer to transition to Critch and the new vision of the club. But at some point that what has insulated becomes unhealthy.

There’s a fair few players now not playing regularly and I fear for the harmony in the dressing room. Obviously Howe and Thorniley need to leave, Devitt will just stay on loan and leave in the summer. I’d get rid of Sarkic like the piece says it hasn’t worked out, he looks two stone overweight and can’t get going in our system.
I was told BM knew him and signed him, after seeing him NC really doesn’t fancy him.

Just to throw a curve ball in I’d get rid of Kemp and Woodburn. Really not sure why we signed them. Hardly featured and we have our own players we need to develop in these areas.
The latter two are easy to dispose of, the others, well it’ll be very difficult to find clubs willing to take them in the current environment. That is without BFC taking a big financial hit towards the cap.

Incomings. Ballard until the end of the season definitely and one striker I think.

As some obvious names have been mentioned and a lot I’d be happy to see here I’ll throw one in from north of the border.
Lawrence Shakland at Dundee United. Aged 25 and been scoring for fun up there, I know the standard isn’t great but has been capped by Scotland and is somewhere in between Yates and Madine in style and physically.

Shakland is well out of our reach. As with most young talented Scottish players Rangers are rumored to be circling and probably some EPL teams.

aye can understand if Rangers or Celtic are about him then we’d struggle.

I could see some middle of the road Championship clubs being interested but I highly doubt any PL team would go for him they just spend huge money on over seas exports now days, who end up doing very little. Gone are the days where Scots transitioned to the English Top flight from the Scottish top flight they generally have to work their way up through the lower leagues in England.

We’d likely be able to double his wages if it fell right for us, but it was just an idea anyway.
