Jerry Yates & Singing In the Rain

Of all the events at Bloomfield Road over the summer a couple with greater significance than perhaps seems immediately apparent have dipped under the radar.

Jerry Yates being offered and accepting an improved contract in light of his achievement last season and additionally the circling of clubs to entice him away is a significant milestone for the club.

I can't recall a time whereby Blackpool proactively looked to retain their most saleable asset.Going right back to Alan Ball and multitude's of others since eg Green Hutchison Burridge Burns Wood Hart Walsh etc all departed for significant 6 figure sums thus diluting the chance to either remain in the top flight or escape from this one.

In more modern times we have of course produced many others whilst in the bottom half of the league structure with the likes of Morgan Bardsley Wright Stewart Sinclair Ormerod etc who all went on to bigger things along with the Adam and Vaughan exodus from our last brief top flight elevation

Secondly whilst the painting of girders and general stadium improvements may seem trivial it does give an insight into the overall desire to enhance and maintain the fabric of the club.

During these revenue starved times I can think quite readily of a scenario whereby we could have literally been playing in the Gene Kelly stadium with same said girders removed for prudence and their is a precedent with the Old Kop.

At least the roof comes off now when used as a descriptive of the vocal support of thousands rather than its literal removal.

Singing in the Rain yes but with a roof over your head.

It's a comforting thought so let's enjoy it.

Agree with most of that but there is a balance between standing in the way of a player who wants to / can improve himself and retaining them.

I like your thinking 👍 but on seeing the title I thought you'd come up with a new song for Jerry based on Singing in the Rain😆

All that you say Blood, is worth celebrating. However, once we were promoted in 2007 we went out and made some really canny signings: GTF and Crainey were key among them. This time around we have brought in Lavery and Bowler - good - but we don't, as yet, have the feel of a rounded Championship side. A couple of selective loans from the Prem would help to achieve that.

VG post and very true, I remember them all.

Always been one-way traffic out, sadly, but hopefully no more!🧡

Improving and extending a players contract is a new experience for us, for sure. At the same time, if he succeeds at this level, we won't hang on to him for ever, and the new contract will partly be aimed at maximising what we get when he does.

Anyone would think we had a eye on the commercial attractiveness of an asset😉

Yates will never play in the Prem and so hard to see how we’re guilty of that?
