Jimi Hendrix 18/9/70

Yes, he was an innovative and unique performer. One of my Mum's cousins worked with Chas Chandler, Hendrix's manager, so saw quite a few of his concerts, both here and abroad. Must have been an amazing experience, especially in the late sixties period

He was. Still sends shivers up and down my spine when I listen to his music.

There's still a lot of unanswered questions about his death. A recent Netflix documentary - Jimi Hendrix: The Last 24 Hours - suggested that he may have been murdered by his manager because Jimi wanted out of his contract. It was very painful to watch.

An utterly unique guitar sound, which is quite hard to achieve. Would have been fascinating to see how he played in his later years.

Trivia : Lemmy was a roadie for Hendrix.

Didn't realise it was the anniversary of his death today, by strange coincidence I was listening to "The Jamie Neverts Story" earlier - a collection of Hendrix songs played by Richard Lloyd of Television fame.

50 years ago seems like yesterday, must be getting old. Funny how time slips away sung Sandy Danny must be true!

In my earlier post I referred to a documentary about his death, and said it was on Netflix.

The one I was thinking of is a newer one called "Hendrix and the Spook" which was on Sky Arts. The spook refers to Jimi's manager who was ex-special forces and possibly a former spy. It alleges he was siphoning off most of Jimi's money and holding it in an offshore account in Bermuda. Jimi wanted his money back, the programme says, and the manager disposed of him because the money wasn't there. There are also doubts raised about how and when he died.

The programme is still available on Sky Arts catch-up.

Anyone watching Hendrix and the Spooks on Sky Arts? It's been a really excellent documentary about his life and his death, was it murder?

He did Sgt Pepper on the Lulu show (I think), on the day it came out.
1966.He did ‘Hey Joe’ on the Lulu Show, half way through he stopped and said ‘we’re gonna stop playing this rubbish’and riffed into’Sunshine of your love’ as a tribute to Cream. Had a vague recollection of the Sergeant Pepper thing, he opened a gig with it just after its release and Ringo & Macca were in the audience! Had to google that one, just watched it on YouTube. Cheers for that. 👍
