I'm pretty happy to say that I have been given the commission to write Jimmy's official biography, backed completely by the Armfield family It is due for release in early 2023 hopefully. Of course, I need your help, and why else would I post? For those who read 'Flat Caps and Tangerine Scarves', you'll know that fans contributed greatly. Well, I'm asking for you to do my work again, so if you have any major personal experiences that you would like to share, then please either reply or email here and I'll get in touch. I'm not really interested in 'I met him at the supermarket and he was lovely', but more of remarkable moment when you realised what a man he was.
Thanks everyone, and I'll post again when I'm writing another book!! Roy

Fat chance! I was expecting at least a 5% royalty for providing the scarf on the cover of Flat Caps...not a bean! 😁

What I would like Roy to do for his next project is to write a screenplay about the Oystons/NAPM/ boycott years etc. Then use his broadcasting contacts to see if a tv or film company will film it. Ray Winstone as Koko maybe but he would have to dye his hair and have a bowl cut.😀

But Jimmy did an autobiography, why is a biography needed? Genuine question?
I had just read his autobiography when I met him at an Old Arnoldians dinner. I told him what a great read it was. He said, pop round tomorrow after I’ve been to church and I’ll sign it. A wonderful thought, especially as he presumed I knew where he lived (which I did).

A good question, and this is the answer. The family agree that so much happened after his autobiography, so they want it to be brought up to date by someone who knew him, and who cared. Some of the royalties are going to Jimmy's charity too. I hope that answers.
Will the book touch on his thoughts about the sad goings on at the club in his latter years?

I can't give away details as it's confidential due to the publishers. As far as I'm concerned, this is the most important book I have ever written, because I knew Jimmy well. I know he will be watching, so hopefully it will be entertaining, enlightening and accurate.

Have you spoke to anyone who took part or help organise Project 36?

Very happy memories of “Sir Jimmy” from the late 50s into the mid to late 60s because of his connection to Arnold School, particularly the Juniors, and then his work,if you can call it that, with the local Methodist Church Youth Clubs.in my case the one in Andsell and Fairhaven.

When I was in the Junior School he sometimes came down to the school to take the kids for football practice( the Senior School played Rugby and Hockey). One school holiday some of us were asked to come to the school playing fields where it turned out he was there with a film crew and we were filmed with him taking us in some practice matches.I always remember him being nut megged by a school pal( Billy Barker I think he was called,it’s a long time ago) and me being filmed making a save( I was the school goalie at the time).I believe it was some kind of promotional film being made for the FA but sadly I have never seen it and to this day never knew if it actually got shown anywhere.I am sure he was the England Captain at the time.

On another occasion we were again asked to attend the school, this time for a photo shoot( though I doubt they called it that then) which was for one of those annual football books, think it was for the Charlie Buchanan ( ?)Annual. This time I got to see the final product.Unfortunately the picture was of us “ high kicking” and the final version had my face blocked out by the kid next to me,think he was called Paul Ogden, who was much taller than me and so his boot was right in front of my face….boo hoo.😳

There was also a brief time when he stood in for a teacher or teachers and took us for actual school classes though I can’t remember what it was for.

A few years later I also met him as said above at the Youth Club when he came to simply chat with us teenagers by then.A lovely man and very humble too.I remember he would sit their chatting with his pipe😀 billowing tobacco smoke.

Someone who was then and still is a hero of mine.
