Johnson

Just watching the game back, fkin ell that Johnson should be in the Olympics for diving, makes Ashley young look like an honest player

Sky pulled him up for it. In fact Don Goodman said along the lines that he's a good player but falls to the floor far too easily and he could see how Lincoln had by far more penalty kicks than anyone else in League 1.

It was like the referee knew about Johnson's antics.

Hasselbaink not only condoned it, he described it as being good for the game.

In case you're wondering why nothing is ever done about it.

He did Grayth. And in all commentary now you hear them calling diving and cheating "clever" and "he sold that one". It's the scourge of football.

Refs don't seem to have the bottle to see what we do anymore. With VAR there should be straight red cards for diving (it's not simulation it's cheating). With straight red cards it would stop. If that is too much then a 10 minute sin bin would make a lot of players think about it.

It's the one thing that spoils football matches week in and week out that is NEVER addressed.

Johnson is a young and nieve player, needs to be yellow carded more. I hate this in the game our players included.
Morcambe won yesterday with a blatant dive, OSullivan should have been sent off.

Commentators almost always say “he was lover the foul, the slightest touch and they go down” the problem is as Mac said, nothing is ever done about it. Commentators, and officials, need to start to condemn it and take action. It’s like shirt pulling, it’s a foul outside the penalty area, but when there’s a corner or free kick, it’s done all the time and rarely penalised.

The rules surely encourage diving now. Penalty decisions are judged simply on whether there is contact. So if a player with the ball feels contact and goes down the ref is obliged to award a penalty. In a competitive sport with loads of money at stake it's inevitable that people under pressure to succeed will take that option. On my opinion contact does not always constitute a foul it justify a penalty kick. The handball thing is another version of the rules being perverse.

If you go on the Sunderland forum, they are pretty scathing about him and say he duped the ref three times during their 4 games this season.

Johnson's diving habits haven't gone unnoticed among fans from other L1 clubs and I suspect the officials might have been pointed in that direction (he had an outrageous dive against Sunderland in the semis). I think he will find that now he has a reputation he will be winning less penalties even at times when it was a legitimate one.

I have a conspiracy theory in the early stages of development. From what I've read, it seems that the ref favoured Brentford and Morecambe in their finals, and it's being suggested that we got the key decisions too. Swansea had a red card and a penalty awarded against them, their fans were very unhappy. Newport conceded a controversial extra time penalty that decided the game. Lincoln fans felt the ref favoured us, Embleton handball etc.

So are the refs being advised to give the benefit of the doubt to the higher placed play off team? 😃

Hassleback should be banned from broadcasting if that’s the tone of cheating he respects ⚽

First time he got the ball they scored , second time he skinned Garbutt and got him booked. 5 minutes in and it looked like his game, whatever adjustments we made to deny him the ball from then were key, Appleton not finding a way to counteract that and get him the ball was THE tactical battle of the game and we won. There's a reason Garbutt referenced Critches tactics post match.

Seems the rules of football keep changing to make controversial telly. The full out brawl at many corners is another I loathe. Would love to see cards for putting your arms around an opponent. Is any one really surprised at JFH's condoning of cheating, some of us remember covid, a tiny icy patch, etc, etc.

The tactics at the start weren't right though if we are being hyper critical! We gave ourselves a hill to climb by giving Lincoln a clear run of our left early on. We need to sort out the full back positions before we hit the Championship, I think. If Ballard returns and Gretarsson can stay fit we are quite well covered centrally. Midfield needs more creativity. Yates and Simms would be a good front pairing but we'll need back up there at the very least.

Another falling tactic that spoils the game is when a keeper collects a shot then goes to the floor hugging the ball for a few timewasting seconds.

On Sunday I was running the line for my 11 year olds football team. One of our lads got tackled and screamed at the same time, I couldn't stop myself from saying in an incredulous tone "get up!"😂

I thought when VAR came about it was an ideal opportunity to sort diving out.
Opportunity missed and instead they use it to check if a toenail is offside.

More to the point they check if there's the slightest amount of contact and don't seem to consider whether the player goes down too easily.

And the pundits say "he was touched he has a right to go down".
Some take a knock on the leg and fall down holding their face.
Another thing while I'm moaning:
If ever I am tripped or just loose balance playing footy my natural reaction is to put hands toward the ground to avoid landing on my face.
It must take some training to go against instinct and throw arms backward in mid flight. Refs must know this surely ☹️

And rolling about on the floor like a sniper has just shot them when they have been tackled - looks like a career threatening injury - 30 seconds later miraculous recovery and sprinting around the pitch. Utter farce
It's amazing how so many 'serious injury tackles' are quickly forgotten when they get nothing for them, and they are running like a hare almost immediately.
Unfortunately this behaviour has crept into every game and nothing is being done to stop it.
