33 years of age, only 6 months left on his contract, but could well be the difference between Blackpool going up or staying in L1. How much would you pay to sign him permanently in January and what kind of deal would you give him?
Also, if he keeps this form up, is a recall back to the Scotland squad out of the question?

The question is would Hudders be prepared to sell him in January and why not? Hudders are going to struggle staying up this season but is JR going to be their saviour? I doubt it very much given his age and his lack of goals for them over the last 2 seasons, yes he's banging the goals in for us but there's a big difference between the 2 leagues especially being a striker. If l was Hudders I'd want a fee and off the books in January, well thats what I’m hoping for and he joins us on a 1+1 🤔

Yes, they are at risk of losing him on a free at the end of this season. I'd go for £250k to tempt them and offer him a 2 year deal with an option. Wages? Well, goodness knows what he is currently on but I guess we would have to make him one of our top earners.

£250k plus another £250k add on if we go up in either of next two seasons. Throw in a camel or goat like they do abroad too, you just never know 🤣

Assuming Hudders are prepared to sell him in Jan l think wages could be the biggest issue therefore, is there a more serious threat that he goes to another L1 club who are in or around the top 6 mix come January and who are prepared to meet JRs personal terms? This is more of a concern than him returning to Hudders IMO🤔

I think he's pretty settled here mind if you watch his interview, well, defo settled in the area. I guess Bolton going for him could be a concern but I think the rest, well, their locations might help us.

Huddersfield are in a very precarious league position right now a 0-4 defeat at home Tuesday night makes me think they just might give him another run in the first team as scoring goals is just not happening for them at the moment.

It's the same as Bowler last season, he can't play for anyone else other than Udders or us.
£150k should secure his services, 18m contract 1yr option and I'd look to him possibly being considered for joining the coaching staff.
His interview speaks volumes about him and I see coaching as a natural progression for him.

I would be offering a longer deal and incorporating a coaching role after his playing career comes to an end..push the boat out and offer him a good wage but massively incentivised based on goals wins and ultimately promotion. Nobody can begrudge him being the top earner at the club.

Very good point that MM forgot about them or us!👍

Jeez SS will collapse at the breakfast table if he reads that we should be offering Rhodes a goals bonus......

He'll bankrupt us 😁

You're all missing the fact Huddersfield are short of goals. And in a relegation scrap yet again and 300-500k to Huddersfield will mean absolutely nothing. I doubt we're paying 100% of his wages either. We need to get used to the fact JR won't be here after January and the club should be on the market for another striker.

Good point Kurt, but if Hudders are ambitious enough to want to stay in the Championship then they will need a more proven scorer than JR at that level. If we had shown more ambition with managers and transfer windows last season then we may still be in the Championship.

We don’t even know how much a week he’s normally on

Given his pedigree and Championship player status hiatus Ning costs won’t be cheap - we need to keep him if we can

That's why I'm now a Huddersfield fan till January 😊

I don't think you'll find a more proven goal scorer at that level? He's one of the most prolific at Championship level isn't he?

I think his recent record in the Championship is pretty poor. I believe his best days were with T'Rovers.

When he signed for us their forums were quoting £9k/week for sitting on their bench.

Not all as I clearly stated this in my comments above.

The last season he scored more goals than he has so far this season was 2015/16. There is a risk of him returning to Huddersfield in January but I think that is low risk as he has not been prolific at Championship level for a considerable time now.

The question is - would JR score goals for us in the Championship?
I think he will help our 4 strikers, Beesley (26) Lavery (24), Joseph(22) and Kouassi(20) develop.
Discounting Beesley as probably being the 4th striker out-of those 4 that is an incredibly young forward line.

1 plus 1 deal
He will either join for nominal sum in Jan or join in summer for free.
He knows the place to be

I think there are 3 worse teams them then thos season.
The world's most massivest club, QPR and Rovverham.
They have already played those 3 teams and taken 7pts off them.
Add to the fact that they are one of only 2 clubs to take anything off Ipswich I doubt they will require a striker who has played for them 55 times and scored 8 goals, regardless if he is virtually a goal a game at this level.
For some players, it just clicks at a club more than anywhere else that they play / may play at.
Scott Taylor, DJ are our 2 most recent excluding Jerry.
His interview is vert professional, even non committal, however he gives away snippets, family life, bring happy on and off the pitch, kids wearing Pool kits to footy training, family coming to watch him play to make me think that we are more than in with a chance of him signing come Jan.

Played 216 games after leaving t'rovers and before joining us..

Scored a total of 38 goals.
Surprising stats.

In his day Kurt he was outstanding but the last couple of seasons l think he’s only notched about 8 however, he was used mainly as a sub. He came on as a sub on Boxing Day 2021 against us.

33 is nothing so long as a player keeps them self fit. A decent bid, A decent wage and I think he would be ideal for us.

Come on Mr Sadler, it's up to you. Please give us all a Christmas present.

He'd deserve to be a top earner. Goals are an expensive commodity.

As long as he’s used properly there’s a few seasons in those legs yet - at whatever level. Critch seems to have a knack for giving a player - the right player -a swansong. I think Rhodes is smart enough to recognise that whatever move he makes in January will likely determine how his career winds down too. If I were him I’d want to end on a high - 6 months at a struggling Huddersfield could be a depressing time.

I personally think there was some engineering about the radio Blackburn interview for Huddersfield's hierarchy to say I am happy here.

As for the price if we do have a go in January where else would you look to get guaranteed goals?
So within reason, you pay what they want for the 6 months left on his deal there and like others have said give him a coaching option as he spoke highly of Critchley and what better coach could he pick to learn from?

There isn't a cat in hell's chance that we will be signing him permanently. We will want to, but we will want to pay him 5 grand a week on a years contract. Somebody like Oxford will offer him 10 grand a week instantly.

I don't think he will want to move his family. I think location is in our favour.

Pace is not an issue for Rhodes.
As with Kevin Phillips it is all about anticipating where the ball will be.
Do not try to tell him how or where to play rely on his instincts.
That's a very simplistic way of looking at it IMO. Not just pace but reaction times, space available, how quickly is his first touch charged down etc. He does all of what you say but he simply isn't afforded the time and space he gets in league one up in the Championship. He scored 5 in 34 matches last season. He's only getting recalled if they decide to cash in. Again IMHO.

He'll move his family for money, that's what football players do. Enjoy him until January because that's your lot. It isn't the clubs fault, we have a very small wage structure for League 1 and Simon Sadler won't deviate from it so it is what it is. We get good loan players for little periods of time and have to try and balance that with half decent permanent players

Oh I'm enjoying him, but I'd be surprised if he moved down saaaaaarf for a few quid more when his family have always been settled in the North. I guess we will see in January.

I think the club will have more idea on what Rhodes wants to do. Interviews are to please fans, they rattle off the same at each club they are at.
I would see how it goes, there's a reason he has come to Blackpool.

As it’s been mentioned I don’t think he can sign anywhere else this season as he’s played for both us and Huddersfield.

He did give a lot away during that interview without being non committal which was telling and fully gave the impression that he wants to stay here.

Here’s hoping we can make him and Huddersfield a good offer.

To be honest if we go up this season, I can see him banging in the goals in the championship still. He just seems to fit us, and he’s got his mojo back playing and scoring on a regular basis.

He is at a stage in his career when playing, scoring goals and enjoying life are more important than money. I am sure Simon Sadler is aware of that and that there is a deal to be done to satisfy all parties.

He said it is not just about money
He wants to enjoy rest of his career, and knows he would enjoy it here.
Still think worst case is we would lose him in Jan, but sign him on a free in summer
