Jordan Williams signs.

Blackpool FC is pleased to announce the signing of Jordan Williams on a one-year-deal with the Club holding an option for a further year.
The combative midfielder signs on a free transfer from fellow League One side Rochdale, where he spent the last two seasons making 68 appearances.
Williams, who is a product of Liverpool’s Academy, worked under Neil Critchley at Melwood.

The 24-year-old has represented Wales at U21 level and made the breakthrough to the senior squad back in 2015.
On signing with the Seasiders, Williams said:
“I’m delighted to have finally signed and can’t wait to get going now.
“I spoke to the Gaffer and Mike Garrity about the possibility of joining and I jumped at the chance.
“To work under Neil and Mike again will be great. They are two great coaches and can really bring the best out of players. I’m confident, that with the squad they are building here, we will have a successful season at the Club.”
Neil Critchley said:
“I’m delighted to have Jordan on board for the 20/21 season.
“We’ve worked very hard on identifying and recruiting the players we need here at the Club, and Jordan is the type of player and character we feel will add a lot to the team.
"Having worked with him at Liverpool for a number of years, myself and Mike know the qualities that he will bring to the Club both on and off the pitch. We're looking forward to working with him."

That could be a really good signing if he has an understanding with Virtue like Keshi has an understanding with Yates

Only a 1+1deal, hasn't everyone else we've brought in been a 2+1?

Seems like this may be a chance to prove himself based on what the coaching staff know he was once capable of. Low risk/high reward, can't see him being on that big of a contract.

I really dont understand why it's only a 1+1 year deal when all of our other signings have been around the 3 year mark. Is he a risky signing?

Looks like NC thinks he might not work out, after all he knows him so why the one year deal? See how it goes I guess

Can't say i've ever seen that lad play, but from all accounts he's a defensive midfielder which is a position we needed to strengthen. The fact the manager has worked with him before is a positive.

Clearly knows the coaches, I'm sure there's little risk with the 1+1 in terms of wages. One of those deals that could work out though.

Im not so sure, possibly but they had two players called Jordan Williams. The other one a left back has a few articles about being released. I couldn’t find anything in this one.
I checked their released list, he's Michael Jordan Williams I think and he was on their release list. Rochdale released their better higher wage players by the looks of it.

Yeh fair enough he was released.

Rochdale’s squad that got them to this level and then kept them their quiet successfully over the last two years has effectively gone now due to cost cutting measures.

Matheson to Wolves, Camps to Fleetwood etc I think finances have caught up with them really, as they’ve punched above their weight for a few years.

When we played them at the start of last season, our away support was just over half the crowd.

Agents been on the job for a week now and nothing, so they’ve obviously collapsed. No chance of getting Fox ... that’s pie in the sky. Williams coming in is obviously plan B.

Think it's been said above already, but I believe that Rochdale didn't / couldn't offer any of their out of contract players new contracts because of the COVID situation so let them all go. Hence they've lost big players like Camps and Henderson

I like this move.. I recall Rochdale playing some really decent stuff last season and he falls into young with potential category. I can't see how this cannot be a good move for both parties, if he's a success we'll tie him up on a longer deal or sell on for a profit. I'm sure he'll fit into the way Critchley will want us to play very quickly from working with him when he was younger.

So even with the 1 million Rochdale got for Matheson to Wolves things are still dodgy.... Shows how lucky we have been in getting SS.

22 players is the limit I believe - Devitt to make way possibly?

I was told a few weeks ago that Devitt is being ‘awkward’ basically he’s happy to sit on his arse all season picking up his wage regardless of play time. Even if we loan him out we’d have to stump up a big portion of his wage, which I think impacts on our salary cap.

I would assume Yussuf will also depart. Leaving us with one free squad space, hopefully for one more defender.

Although Henderson is as old as me

I'm sure there will be other irons in the fire.

Antwi could make way.....
If Gotts and Bangemine sign....
No place for Antwi

Tbf to Devitt, if he has signed a contract in good faith, then he has every right to sit on it, especially in the current cirumstances.

Yeh I’m not blaming him, the risk of that happening sits with the club. It’s been done a death but when he signed the club we’re all over the place.

Just relaying what id been told.
