Jose Riga - the false Prophet?

Was always amazed at the support and respect that Riga got during his time at Blackpool and don't think he's really been discussed in the calm and cool headed days since the Oyston's departure. Whilst the O's were here, he was always considered the martyr, the victim and someone who was dealt a bad hand.

It's worth pointing out that once he left us he was a disaster at Standard Liege, was in charge (and subsequently binned) when Charlton got relegated, lasted 11 months at Circle Brugge before being sacked and was last heard of at Club Africain but that clearly didn't go well as he's not there now.

I always thought Riga was a Charlatan who got away with it because he was up against the Oyston's who were/are the Devil incarnate. Because of this he was almost hero-worshipped at Blackpool but in actual fact he was just a Billy Big Bollox, who was after a slice of the pie for himself (I hear many of his targets which KOKO turned down had agents who were his mates) and who sat on his lazy 'arris rather than get on with the job.

I know some will disagree but he was a con artist who took full advantage of our hatred of the Oystons, took the money and ran.

Truly think the O/P is nonsense.

Riga was the one manager around that time who stood firm and showed everyone just how bad it was and could never hope to succeed.

I wrote this post at the time of his sacking and haven’t really changed my mind since.

What he’s done since is neither here nor there when people are talking about his time at Blackpool.

If anything he was guilty of jaw dropping naivety and lack of due diligence to coin a phrase. He was well and truly sold a pup as were many of our fans with the revolution deal etc. He never had a chance.

I didnt believe it....and was highly suspicious about the motives behind acquiring two seasons worth of ticket revenue in one go....so I didn’t renew my age old season ticket and never saw a Riga game. I thought, ok Oyston let’s see if you deliver on all this. And the rest is boycotting history.

Very prescient. We'll never know his ability or otherwise. It would be interesting to see Pep Guardiola start the season with 4 subs, 2 of which are keepers and having started that week with 8 players, none of whom are any good. I'm guessing he wouldn't win that many of his first 14 games either.

I met him in the BFC hotel with his assistant that never got paid. Costa Rica were on TV playing a World Cup game and not long after we signed Cubero.

Remember the pre-season well

My first time on sky sports when no one from the club would speak after Triialistgate at Penrith

No grey hair then 😆

Video still on the BST Facebook Makes me laugh looking back

Really hot day that Penrith game. I was in last orders in penrith at 7am to watch the 3rd Lions test v Aus. I got quite drunk!

I had heard the same as you Cable Cat. But as I THINK it was you who told me, that isn't much of a surprise.

Did we play Penrith twice? Am I thinking about the time we played them under Ince?

Oh right so because he’s been sacked at other clubs like countless other managers in football that supports your theory?
Tell me, who’s fault was it we struggled even putting out a team against Forest first game of the season because we only had 8 or 9 registered players? Suppose that was Rigas plan all along eh?
