Joseph

He wasn't very good. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought that. As an attacking force though, no one was. Maybe Dembele but it was like the one man show at times. He can't do it all.

Can't even share an opinion without being labelled negative. I'm sure people are saying he looked good just because he's been out for so long.

He barely touched the ball and Northstand is correct; he did look quite slow.

As I said in opening post, it still understandable though as first game back which people conveniently ignore.

Personally I thought he looked very rusty as to be expected but I was shocked when the defender out paced him as I thought he was meant to be rapid? Some minutes against morecambe will do him good.

where you heard that PO? it will be our luck.
tbh thought we missed Lavery today, his pace and tenacity may have caused Bolton a few problems…
People were mentioning Lavery out with a hammy injury just before kick off. If true my first thought was- was it the plastic pitch at Bromley?

Agree though, Lavery was just coming into some form again and I was disappointed he wasn’t with us today.

You said he was shit That’s hardly constructive as well as being wrong

I though he played a few nice little passes, can't even remember the outpaced bit tbh.

He's only just come back.

We've got some issues up top for me.

When we play with Rhodes the pressing isn't as fast obviously.

We need Lavery and maybe Joseph for that, but then we lack presence.

Rhodes and Kouassi can combine but aren't fast so the closing down there isn't the best.

Today we we're lacking in the final 3rd.

He wasn’t outpaced in reality… It’s just the typical exaggerated nonsense that folk spout after a disappointing result. There was one incident where he tried to get around the outside of their defender … He wasn’t outpaced, just started behind and unable to outpace the other lad to get to the ball.

From the bits I saw of him he looked lively, was constantly showing and looking for the ball etc.. Just happy to see him feature to be honest and hopefully we’ll see more of him from now on.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, then him and a defender ran level with each other for 20 odd yards. Neither of them outpaced the other.

I'm not sure how being out paced makes you shit. CJ could outpace anyone on that pitch and was mostly garbage today. GTF was slow as fuck but good enough to get us into the prem.
Joseph had one or two nice touches and made some intelligent runs. For someone who was making his first league appearance and only had 10 mins on the pitch, he did ok.

Many defenders could outpace Jordan Rhodes .

He is absolutely mega . Probably the best striker in the division .

Happy to give him a chance but he 100 percent got outpaced by a Bolton defender when he came on.

Without Kouassi up front today the ball didn't stick, so Rhodes became isolated. However without Dembele we would have lacked someone who can go past a man - not that he achieved that much this time round. Realistically I think we can't afford both Dembele and Carey unless Dougall and Norburn are right at the top of their game. Carey is too lightweight in the tackle at the moment to justify a midfield place. He is improving a bit though - slowly.
Last thing - I really dislike us with five at the back. It's one centre half too many and breeds confusion as to who stays and who goes out to cover. It also sell us short on players with passing skills who can get attacks going. We look clunky and disjointed too much.

Playing 4-3-3 would help not this awful defensive system Critchley keeps trying

If we are insistent on playing with 3 centre halves, we need Kouassi up top to give a direct option. Without him, we are far too slow going from back to front with all the possession based, sideways passing. By the time the ball gets into the ‘dangerous’ areas, the opposition are set into position and get blocks and clearances in. Dembele would have to start just behind the front two in the space between the opposition defensive central midfielder and centre half. The problem is Critchley is far too defensive and safety first so wouldn’t want Dembele as one of his three central midfielders. The way we play it is so reliant on being able to beat a man to create opportunities as the opposition are back into position when it counts.

352 can work but it clearly doesn’t with the way Critchley executes it.

Surely against the lesser sides we came afford to attack more with both?

Although we should still javr plenty with Dougall playing, as he can score too.
