Junior footy - who did you play for?

My dad used to‘manage’ Layton Institute Juniors’ in the early 70’s. They were terrible- lost just about every game. My brother was in goal and the report in the Gazette would read -“ after a valiant effort LIJ lost 22-0!”
I would have to slice oranges before the game for the players at halftime and my mum would wash all the kits after every match!!

Blackpool Rangers. We weren't much good.
Orange slices at half time, coach washing the kit and barely any parents on the touch line. Big change from now, I guess.

North Fylde for me. Highlight was scoring in the Hogan Cup Final (U12) at Bloomfield Road circa 1980. Low light was losing it 2-3 to BJFF. Remember their prolific goal scorer. Blonde haired lad they called Savage. Blackpool Rangers were always up there with FC Rangers and YMCA were not bad. Hated playing at Squires Gare as was always raining and blowin a b’stard!! Happy days…

Bispham Juniors 1969-70 then went to Blackpool Grammar School and played rugby . Then played rugby Saturday and Football Sunday when I left school. Then got bored of Rugby when I was about 22 and played football Saturday and Sunday. I must have been fit. . For you oldies played with George Berry at Bispham Juniors

Nice. Thinking you're the age group up from me. Guess Ali Baker was playing with you and Graham Birch. Steve Rial and his old man Kevin always involved if I remember. All good lads.
I played with Parky, Brandsey, Kev Barnes, Si Crellin all the way through. Robbie played with us when it went to Under 17s in our last season.
Straighters. How many times did your boys win it? In the later years wasn't it? From memory, YMCA, Blackpool Rangers, Clifton, North Fylde and Our Lady all won the league... I think

Only played football at school. Played for Sir Alfred McAlpine Golf Club against the likes of Shell UK and Greenall Whitley plus various other large construction companies.

Think we won it 3 times at least. Certainly from 14's we were unstoppable with Parky, Brandsey and Kev Barnes. Clifton didn't win it in our age group. Not sure Our Lady did either but might be wrong.

Thought Clifton won the very last year U17. Could it have been Fylde finished a year earlier? The U17 league spanned 2 seasons

After captaining the Norbreck Primary School ream I went to Arnold ( football frowned upon) where I was encouraged to play other sports which I did , notably hockey. I did play a few games for St John's ( central Blackpool ) Youth Club when 15/16 before playing in the local Saturday and Sunday
Leagues when I started work in Lytham.
We played Football at Arnold…..but it was the Junior School😂…..as we had Saturday morning school, yes even in the Junior School,we rarely played any other schools.
The goals were either the rugby posts on the fields nearest St.Annes Road or after Xmas the hockey pitch goals near the old school itself. The Junior School had no playing fields.
However this was 1958 to 1962 and we were blessed with “ Sir Jimmy Armfield” occasionally taking us for training and for a brief few weeks he even came in as a stand in teacher🥳.He was of course a former student in the Senior School and had a close relationship to the school and always did( not like me who as much for having the waste of time Saturday school couldn’t wait to be out of the place).

I don’t think there was too many junior teams when I was a kid, remember playing a couple of times for a team ran by someone called “racker” , but when I left school myself & a couple of mates formed our own team called Kingsfield.

Lytham/GRE but we weren’t great! YM and Foxhall were the decent teams back then. Played for British Rail too. Some good lads there

Played in the same Sunday League team as those three. All very good players. Robbie Boal was in the same team. He wasn`t bad either...

North Fylde were leagues ahead in them days, same age group as me. I played for Foxhall, scored 40 plus a season ….

I was at Arnold Junior School around 1962 and can remember being coached by Jimmy Armfield! And also hated the Saturday morning attendance!!!!!

Brooklyn u11,u12’s then FC Rangers right through
Was it RAOB Rangers back then before changing to FC? Played for RAOB & went on a football tour to Bottrop in 1977.
Would imagine most Blackpool kids now in their 50/60's had a little dabble with Brooklyn on Sat/Sun morning's.
Once turned up in a red tee-shirt & Lee Brooklyn rummaged in a bag & found two white sleeves. I pulled them on & was pointed towards a team playing in Arsenal tops 🤣.

Another here who was at Brooklyn Corinthians, I used to go with my neighbours and best mates , David and Stephen Pilkington. It was around the time Granada reports did a report on it .

Remember that Steve.
Lee always seemed to be wearing a camel coat & sunglasses from what I remember 😎

Did the Bottrop trip in 82 I think

YMCA from 1996 - 1999 under the management of Neil Thornber (Nipper) Alan Whiteside and then Shaun Bennett. We won everything. Highlight for me was winning the Hogan Cup at Bloomfield Road 3-1 Vs Foxhall. I conceded to Ben Perry Acton, we all know who he is related to. It was a great left peg so I wasn't too downbeat.

There was also once a photo shoot ( to use the modern vernacular 😂) with him which was I think for the Charles Buchanan Annual Book.
I was in the photo, only problem when the published version came out the boy next to me,think he was called Paul Ogden, was a lot taller and his boot,we were doing high kicks, completely obscured my face😳
There was another occasion when I think the FA we’re doing some kind of promotional film for schools or overseas( no idea which to be honest) where a number of us were filmed with him doing some coaching with us.Never sadly got to know if it was ever shown anywhere and certainly never got to see it ourselves.
I was the goalkeeper in it and my then friend Billy Barker actually nut megged him😂.
He was a fully fledged England Player at the time of all this and maybe even Captain.
Met up with him many times in my teenage years because of his involvement in the local church youth clubs in the Fylde Coast area. One of the nicest people ever as far as I am concerned.

I also played for Evington U12's 67/68 season we won the league and the cup the final of which was due to be played at Bloomfield Road but heavy rain caused a change of venue to the Co-Op sports ground on Preston New Road. The following season I left after a couple of months to follow the Pool. Our captain Trevor Bee receiving the cup from Brian London

I was a couple of years below you at FC, and remember you had a great team that season.
I did the Bottrop Trip in 83, with Pete Lancashire's under 15's (year older than me)
I also attended a 40 year anniversary for FC in 2011, and I found out that I still held the age group U12 goalscoring record 👍
