Well not quite, but it was a late one due to the rail service that we have in this country

Infact all day the trains were awful, overcrowded with delays and cancellations all over the place

Queues to get in were also shite but to be expected

Didn't even have time for a proper pre match pint in a pub, had to make do with a flyer in the concourse,

Cruzcampo is a vast improvement, didn't try one of the Preston pies but my lad did and said they were too small

Enjoyed the new surroundings in the West, had tickets near the front in one of the end blocks towards the North and it was decent,

Spoke to a few people I knew and had some decent football chat

What a start !!

From the first minute we looked really up for it and a bit unlucky with the disallowed goal as the flag was really late, I actually thought the midfield three were all good and don't understand the grief Carey has been getting on this site, we dominated possession and created chances. It was a really good watch

The only thing that disappointed me a little was Connolly on the right and CJ on the left, surely it would have made more sense to have them on the opposite sides. Lyons and Trybull not playing just reinforced my view on Critchley only liking players he signs

Second half was as dull as it comes but to be expected I suppose given how in control we were, I would have liked us to have a go at them as we probably could have scored 3 or 4 more as they were dog shit, it was very Critchley like to be honest keeping what we have approach that he's famed for

Good three 3 points though

Norburn looks a great signing and Lavery is going to score a bucket load in this league if we play to his strengths

Great new song for Lavery as well, how long will it be before folk pick up and moan the fact that tune has been copied from a loyalist Rangers song 🎵

Love it.....

What the fuck was the fist pumps all about, I can't be the only person who felt a bit uncomfortable watching that at the end, especially given how dull the second half was

Walk back into town and another queue for an over crowded train, the shop/bar at Blackpool North wasn't even open, bizarre giving how busy the station was

Few fans milling about at Preson station, Walsall, Fleetwood, West Brom and Burton all visible but very little trouble or even noise

Over 4 and a half hours later we were home, ridiculous really given it should only be about 2 hours 30

Long day all in all and to be honest I'm glad I've decided not to have the burden of having a season ticket given a home game is now about a 12 hour shift

West stand was decent will definitely get the same seats again, will probably do the Morretti one week and the Heineken another week, it was nice to have the option to walk to the North as well and if my youngest comes to a match might even do the family stand again

It's the way forward ....

Promotion beckons if we can play like that first half

Rather than plod into town, we got the 5.30 from Blackpool South, to then meet up with the Blackpool North to Leeds train at Preston. Gave us 40 minutes in the bar on Preston Station. Saves the hassle at North Station.

Agree with most of your game summary. I don't think the second half was what Critchley wanted, I think the players just slackened off the intensity because it was so easy. If the opposition had been better, I think the focus would have remained, less casual in attitude.

We're going up.

Trains were crap. Multiple cancellations in a row, 3 out of the 4 to Preston in an hour were cancelled at about 6pm
Yep it was the same before the match as well apparently its because there is an overtime ban so not enough drivers

Not sure about that though as last season it was also crap

I'm not sure tbh

It looked to me like we just tried to shut up shop

What was the Lavery song? I heard the usual 'Lavery's on fire' and the 'white pele' song. I could hear the North lads trying to get something I haven't heard before going a few times but I couldn't work out what it was.

It was a rehash of the Wayne Rooney song so not sure where the Rangers thing comes in. And re the fist pump, the crowd clearly asked for it.
And you know what it felt great.

Message from a mate who's a Burton fan

:Hi mate, No I didn’t enjoy it 😂😭😂
You were really good first half - way ahead of us we were nervous and short on ideas, really really disappointing. Got a bit better 2nd half but you were so in control you never looked that much in trouble. You thoroughly deserved the 3 points and based on league 1 last year I’d be very surprised if you are not competing for the title."

The train situation should have been resolved ages ago. They talk about getting cars off the roads but the alternative is dog shit. HS2 will not sort it out either. I did manage to watch the game & your summary is pretty much how I saw things. Sounds like your journey was worse than ours. Good start though. 😃

Is doesn't get much worse than being stuck at Preston for an hour

Then on the way back also at Warrington Bank Quay for over an hour with fuck all open

HS2 might get as far as Birmingham. Nothing changes for the North. Our train was all on time, but still takes 20 minutes longer for Blackpool to Leeds than Leeds to London. 2 hrs 20 to 2hrs.

Connolly was on the left , cj on the right

Got to agree with Phil.
Why Connolly over Lyons?
Why Connolly on left and CJ on right, I can only presume he favours his own signings and / or doesn’t trust Hubby at left CH and wanted a more defensive player at LB. I like Connolly but he is never a WB let alone a LWB.
I understand CJ at WB but again why on the right? He has no right foot in reality so when he beats his full back with some ease he struggles it provide quality balls from the right. If he was the sort of player who cut in to shot on his left fine, but he isn’t, he runs the line and beats his man, play to his strengths FFS!
Trybull should be at least on the bench to cover for Norburn,
The manager is too pragmatic, maybe even negative and the way he went past his players to play to the north and fist pump showed him up for what he is, self centred, it was about him! That’s why he left last time, about him, that’s why he only picks “his” players. I’m not anti Critch but I don’t understand his god like status with some of our fans.
As Phil says, we should go up as we have the best squad in this league, it’s down to the manager

Fair report review, personally I find Carey goes missing in games but hey we all see different things, I would 100% make a place for Lyons his goal threat will be invaluable.

I actually think the players could of gone up a gear if needed but I enjoyed the Fast tempo from the first whistle

In terms of the fist pump… For me, I think that was the crowds way of letting Critchley know that he’s welcome back and there’s no hard feelings.

It was the right thing to do… It’s out of the way and we can all move on. If it felt a bit cringy for some, then that’s not a bad thing…. They’ll be over that now … So they can move on too.👍

Decent game, great to see a few faces that I haven’t seen for a while. I had two pies (one free, one purchased)… Far better standard than last seasons and no noticeable size difference (Maybe your lads hands are bigger 😂)… Tge Pork Shop ‘high end’ sausage rolls will be a big miss, but their meat & potato pies were a disaster, so glad to have a pieman who can actually make a pie… (though a shame he’s a knobber… ).

Critchley is a shrewd operator, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he has something up his sleeve when it comes to players who haven’t featured… It’s also possible that we may see a bit of a shift around in terms of incomings / outgoings m..

On the whole (Lower division accepted) it was a much better looking set up. Well organised team that seemed to have all the necessary components doing the right thing.

I’m not sure we’ll get the luxury of so much time on the ball though with the better sides in this league and as the season moves on. The step down in class from the Championship was very noticeable, it was almost like watching in slow motion on occasion.

Was on holiday so thankyou for the report 👍

The grief Carey gets is the same grief anyone who isn't a sweating, snarling ball winner gets. It's always been the same. I'm sure there'd be people muttering 'that bloody Matthews doesn't want to get his kit dirty" if I could find a time machine and go back to the fifties

I thought the pies are from Accy? I've seen a few calling them Preston pies. Have I missed something there?

This 👍 There were comments about how "outstanding" Casey was when he came on 'cos he won a bit of ball and stampeded into wide open space a handful of times. He was alright!

I think Carey does need to get more involved but I think Critch needs to enable that to happen. Get the set up right and sort out his role in it.

As I said before we made our first offer for Lyons in June 22 it seems, so its quite likely he was identified as a target before Critchley left. He maybe favours Connolly as he thinks hes stronger defensively, but as a left wing back, not really. Lets see how it develops. Hopefully Lyons will get a chance and make a strong impact when he does.

The fist pump was sickening, but he then went and touched the badge. All this on his own, with players behind him. Just wave and say thanks, that’s all that’s needed.
Come on TT....Let it go and let the love back into your 💔 heart

💘

🧡🧡🧡

The bloke genuinely loves the Club and the connection with the fans means a lot to him and to us lot too..... Any Manager / Coach that is worth their salt is always going to want to test themselves at the highest level possible and so we need to be realistic about that. As it is, I think the break away has probably made Critchley realise he wants to be his own man and also that the relationships you have with the club owner are very important..... He's the perfect fit for us and vice versa.... It's all about whether we can deliver success now and if we do, then that might raise further challenges and increase make him more in demand, but they are the kind of challenges that we want.

Honestly he was just a manager for me first time around. I wasn’t overly pleased with his style of play or his selections, but he did well. When he left I wasn’t bothered in the slightest.

I’m fine with him being back, but I hated the fist pumps and badge touching first time around. I don’t like any manager doing that. Just wave and say thank you. It’s about the players for me.

Being a regular on the trains and knowing how cancellations and disruption affect the queues at North, I was able to get a seat on the 18.17 from North, passing the two electric powered trains (eight carriages) on the same platform, with those not in the know standing at their doors awaiting them to open and getting on at the front of the three carriage diesel to York at the far end of the platform. Had a space for Wiz and his mate when the train emptied at Preston. by the time I was home it was a 13 hour day.

Fair enough.... Each to their own and I get where you are coming from. 👍 Personally I think that relationship between Manager and Crowd plays a big part in carrying you through, when the going gets a bit tough. It's one part of a whole series of small things that add up and make the difference between where we found ourselves last season and the kind of cohesive unit we looked for most of the season before.

I think the North Stand showed that they appreciate the interaction and at the end of the day, they're the lads that get the atmosphere going and drive the team on etc..

Arteta made an interesting point about how he wants his wingers touching the wide lines, so they can receive the ball facing the opponents and opening up a lot of forward run angles…possible this is the reason we have inverted wingers

Critchley picks his teams based on the opposition. Lyons, for all his attacking threat, has been known to be vulnerable defending so it might have just been that Connelly was the better option given their main threat was the big dangerous lump Carl Stockton.

Seems a million years ago since CJ cut inside onto his left foot to get a shot away chunks . I've said on another thread that the ease he went past there LB yesterday & had the run of the byline. Had that been on him left foot surely the crosses would have been more productive. Meanwhile zero happening on the left. I actually forgotten Connolly was playing.

As Phil says, we should go up as we have the best squad in this league, it’s down to the manager
I also noticed that with the first pump as I was watching him

Think he spoke to a couple of players but looked very eager to please the North

Fair enough.... Each to their own and I get where you are coming from. 👍 Personally I think that relationship between Manager and Crowd plays a big part in carrying you through, when the going gets a bit tough. It's one part of a whole series of small things that add up and make the difference between where we found ourselves last season and the kind of cohesive unit we looked for most of the season before.

I think the North Stand showed that they appreciate the interaction and at the end of the day, they're the lads that get the atmosphere going and drive the team on etc..
That’s the problem for me, that when things got tough and we lost he didn’t even acknowledge fans. He’s only ever done it after a win. I remember games at Preston, Birmingham and Derby where he was conspicuous by his absence at the end. There were plenty of other games.

The great Billy was genuine and consistent with the fans after a win, loss or draw.
