Sunderland have allowed Newcastle to redecorate parts of their ground in black and white
Newcastle took over a corporate bar area at the ground and refitted it, provoking fury amongst Sunderland fans.
With Sunderland’s approval Newcastle have also installed black and white signs and logos inside the ground so their fans, directors and corporate executives can feel at home.
When pictures emerged of the interior there was uproar on Wearside with demands for the board to be sacked and a statement from the club said Sunderland AFC acknowledges that a serious error in judgement was made in relation to the Black Cats bar. We apologise to the fans for the understandable concern they have voiced. This sentiment is shared by the clubs ownership group and board of directors who have requested an immediate review is undertaken to determine how this unfolded and a direct decision has been taken to return the space to its original state.
Newcastle have taken a big chunk of corporate bar space for the first Derby in 8 years plus the entire terrace behind one of the goals.
One sign had “Ha’way the lads” changed to “Howay the lads” and another sign behind a bar had “Keep the red flag flying high” to “Keep the black and white flag flying high”. So it’s obviously not some geordies who have sneaked in overnight.

A “serious” error in judgement is the understatement of the decade.WTF were they thinking about? One of the biggest rivalries in English football and some prat has allowed that to happen. Makes me think if some back handlers have been involved and although it’s only football which has now been rectified I think it’s scandalous.
Imagine if we allowed parts of our ground to be decorated in PNE colours or even vice versa.
Trouble is nowadays that the majority of owners are not born an bred in the area where their club is based so don’t really give a monkey’s about what goes on.

How can a club get it so wrong?
Especially a club with such a strong identity as Sunderland?
It just shows that at any club the punters are so far down the list of priorities
And another example of how this working class game has gone from us

There was another calamity for Sunderland after the match.

Newcastle fans were kept in for two hours afterwards, and the bar staff had already begun pouring pints before the post-match rush.
But the bars' card readers lost wifi connection just before the final whistle, meaning the staff couldn’t charge.
They ended up giving the beer to the Newcastle fans free of charge 😁

The same happened to us at Cambridge. I got 4 free pints.
