Justice for Harry....

I'm surprised the parents have accepted the sentence so easily. Denying the charge and then refusing to return to the UK was disgraceful when she was so blatantly guilty. She might not have served a prison sentence but if it had been an actual sentence instead of a suspended one at least she wouldn't have been able to return to the UK.

Happy for the family but in the end she never came to the UK for trial. The result had a smack of being a diplomatically negotiated forgone conclusion. No prison time or travel to the Uk but a show trial for the family and media.

Guilty of careless driving? On the wrong side of the road. Can't see US courts being as lenient if one of us had done a similar thing over there.
Skipping the country was a very cowardly act as well.
Hope his parents can come to terms with the justice dished out here, I think its scandalous.

Pathetic sentence, and also pathetic comments from the judge. She fled the country, can you imagine any of us getting that sort of sentence after fleeing.

This Anne Sacoolas has basically got away with it Scott free.
She disappeared back to America 19 days after it happened claiming diplomatic immunity, for 2 years she refused to admit her guilt even yesterday she didn’t appear in court when invited to do so by the judge.
I bet had the roles been reversed and she was a British woman in America she would have served time in a prison cell.

Sets a precedent too.

Compare this to the guy who killed three by driving down the M606 the wrong way after being pursued by the police and received a 6 year sentence. He'll serve three so long as he's well behaved. Even this was too short IMHO and the opinion of many more.

It's not, but at least his family have closure that the person who committed the offence has been found guilty in a court of law. A small consolation but nevertheless hopefully it will give them some peace of mind.
Listening to expert opinion on a CPS person yesterday and the conclusion that the sentence was about average for the type of offence and circumstances.

Skipping the country was indeed scandalous and that could well have imposed a sentence for that alone. But how many of us have driven in a country where they drive on the opposite side of the road to us and we've inadvertently turned or gone down the wrong side of the road. Although I don't drive myself, a former partner and my current wife have both done it. One of those times being on a dual carriageway which was very quiet and we were able to turn round when realising our mistake. Without wishing to trivialise it, it's an easy thing to do. We were fortunate that both times it didn't cause a problem but sadly in this case it cost some-one his life.
I know that in your case you've got plenty of experience of driving abroad but many others won't have.

Fair comment 20's. Yes I have done it once when I became confused at a junction with six entrances and exits.

8 month suspended sentance, not much for ending a young lads life and then fking off back to the USA.
Agree completely.
She's got off with it. Serving no time, no Driving Licence endorsements.
NOTHING really.
Just hope it's always on her conscience, but somehow I doubt it.
Used that stretch of road when we lived in Lincolnshire. Always drove extra carefully there. For obvious reasons.
