Karl Robinson

I don't know too much about the quality of Oxfords squad but they did pay wages that we wouldn't for Brannigan. Despite that he couldn't manage to get them anywhere near the playoffs, in league one.

Over the last however many years he's also never managed to get them out of league one. We're a bigger club than Oxford but not by much in today's landscape so I'd be a bit concerned to hire a manager who has failed at the thing we would need them to do quickly.

By all accounts the Board (heaven help us), have already identified who they want
I’d be amazed if they didn’t go after Nathan Jones - like or loathe him he is more than proven at this level and if you want results, good football and a strong team both to win promotion and maintain championship status it’s a no brainier to appoint him ( if he wants it) . You have to also remember his Luton team walked Lg1 and improved Year on year in the Champ.

You told us McCarthy was a good appointment

He's been awful and even worse than Appleton with some of the worst football I've ever seen at Bloomfield Road
It would help if he didn't pick teams by drawing names and positions out of the sorting hat.

Let’s be realistic here. I suggested Robinson and the main thrust of the argument against is that been unsuccessful and potted by previous clubs. We are a division 1 team in waiting and managers are on a merry go round. They have all been potted previously and it’s about getting an experienced manager with previous or taking a massive gamble on a novice. The names suggested - Manning,Simpson,HollowayAdkins,,cowells,Grayson,Appleton etc etc have all been unsuccessful. Whoever takes the reins will fall into that category. Robinson is best of that category and available. (Only my opinion ha)

Has left Oxford with immediate effect. Don’t dither, just go and get him now on a 2 year contract.
I just want a manager with personality, passion and not a grey has been as in past appointments
No thank you been stealing a living promised promotion if they pushed the boat out and kept Brannigan, deserves the sack.

Appleton to resurface at Oxford then?

As for us, Paul Simpson doing an amazing job turning Carlisle around! 👏

Ritchie Wellens a good shout as well.
It's weird how, given the obsession on here with ex Pool players that Simmo who has done a brilliant job with Carlisle alnost never gets a mention.

I'm not saying Simmo would do a great job, but the number of times people ask for a 'dream team' of vastly under qualified players from the Prem team, you think he would get more noticed as like Wellens, and unlike some metioned he actually has a bit of a track record. Although, obviously, we'll ignore part of it... 🤣

Whoever we get he'll be the cheap option. The job at Oxford is also probably the better preferred choice for whoever that may be unfortunately 🙁

Loved Simmo as a player and he's had an up & down career as a manager/coach. If you look at the stats he actually did quite well at PNE top of the league at Christmas 2006 but they only signed 3 free transfer players in the Jan window and missed out on the play-offs on goal difference. They then sold Nugent and struggled and he was sacked in November. He did well with McClaren at Derby and won the U-20 World Cup as head coach with England. He's now doing well again at his home town club Carlisle in Lg 2 ....maybe that's his comfort zone?

One of my favourite ever players.

I'd guess it's a home comforts thing perhaps. He had a health scare not that long ago didn't he?

I saw him jogging in a village a few miles outside of Carlisle about 6 months ago. I was quite starstruck!

Nathan Jones who has just left Premier league Southampton is going to go to a league one team who when they were in the championship lost their manager to go and be an assistant somewhere else partly due to how much bigger the wage was. Makes total sense.

Nathan Jones failed at two ‘big clubs’ - he will not get another job in the prem. None of the big clubs in the Championship will touch him for the same reason. At best he will get a bottom third side in the Championship but aside from the clubs in trouble there may not be any opportunities. We will be desperate to get back asap and consolidate in the Championship after that, we are an ambitious club (new training ground and stand on the way) and he will have a very good budget for lg1. Therefore we are a very attractive prospect particularly if he wants a project. The reason Critchley left is completely immaterial in this instance and will have no bearing in whether Jones does/does not come
