I just wanted to say, I think without his discipline, positional sense and grit in the middle, I really think we'd have had a much less successful first Champ season than we have. Perhaps a glimpse of that today. With Connolly or Stewart next to him, we're extremely hard to dominate.

I've said it before, I'll say it once more for the season, he's a Rolls Royce of a defensive midfielder in my humble opinion!

The apparent League One midfielder guided our patchwork midfield to a comfortable Championship finish (from relegation, today was certainly not comfortable!). Hilarious how he got thrown under the bus after a couple off games after the recent international break.

We're worse off when he isn't in the team. There are those of the opinion Stewart is better than Dougall, its a fair opinion (I prefer Dougall as you can tell) but we'll be lucky to get 15 appearances out of Stewart whereas Dougall has been there all season manning the midfield as various other players get put next to him throughout - he is Mr. Consistent without shadow of a doubt.

I also think he's been expected to do a job that isn't his role this season at times, stick a creative/attacking midfielder in front of him and he'll be even better. He will be able to focus on what he does best, and contribute when he can rather than have to contribute as much as possible as no-one else can.

Oh, he also got us promoted with two peaches at Wembley.. don't understand how there is an agenda against him from some fans.

And also look how good he's been with Stewart next to him letting Dougal get forward a bit more. Majority of his assists have been with Stewart next to him

Totally agree with all comments. I prefer him to Stewart to be honest. And we also have a chance of having him fit for more than a few games a season.

I think that when he has played alongside stewart he makes stewart look much better than he actually is. For me a first on the team sheet. i really dont understand those that are critical of him. today was the perfect example of a midfield that i think with dougall we would have controlled.

I've been critical of some of Dougalls performances and rightly so, hes also been praised when he played well.

What was noticeable today is the lack of pressing as a unit, compared to normal.

Tbf Stewart and Carey haven't played in ages, you could see they weren't at it, poor touches etc.

I wouldn't read too much into today as quality wise, it was a thrown together 11 who some were not match fit upto speed and in a nothing game, was still really poor though.

Anyone know many goals and assists he actually has?
I know he's a midfielder and he takes the corners etc., but I can't remember many goals or assists tbh.

Dougall has the most amount of assists this season with 5. Which is more than Bowler and CJ.
He has been the standout midfielder this season.
It is clear that Stewart who has the ability just cannot stay fit, he has played only 12 games.
Grant Ward has played 4 matches but had a recurrence of the Achilles injury that he got last season at Sunderland.
Virtue has played 3 games this season and has missed a lot of games with injury over the last two seasons.
Robson has played only 2matches this season.
It is clear that Critch has been trying different midfielders over the past few weeks since the Forest match, to work out
what he needs at the end of the season. I fully expect at least 2 or maybe 3 of the above to be replaced with hopefully better and fitter players.
