Kenny Dougall

Yeah great bit of business that. Great to see him looking like he's enjoying it again. Looked like that had faded last season, understandably I guess.

Long live the King 👑

Super Kenny Dougall. 👍

A hell of a lot of players come and go and only a fraction of them pull on the shirt regularly for a few years. Great calm temperament, been a great servant despite the collective dip last season.

The thud of the ball coming off his right foot in the second half at Wembley will live long in the memory. Because of the mostly empty stadium, it seemed to echo around the bottom tier and you just knew it was in as it left his foot. Beautiful moment, and he’ll always hold hero status for that day alone.

Late in May…. 🎶

He's a good player, like any, when used right.

A lot of our players looked shadows of what we had seen before, when they were played under Appleton once it went wrong and McCarthy. Their confidence had drained etc and it shows how big a factor that is.

The basics looked difficult at times and it made you question players quality.

Getting back to his best now.

Despite the vitriol he gets on here from a lot of people he is THE most important player Blackpool Fc have signed since the Oyston's left. Without a shadow of a doubt. He changed that season for us when he arrived and he got us promoted.

He is a player's player, a dog of war in the middle of the pitch that always gives 100% doing the horrible stuff for other players and we should be proud to have him.

Already a club legend for me. When he's gone he will be fondly remembered for a long time.

Delighted to see this thread. He has always been a stand out player for me, committed and professional. Too many were willing to slag him off when playing in the nonsense last season. Put him in the right position, have players around him who understand what he does, and he is good.

Pleased to see he has the confidence to shot again, he has one pile driver of a shot.

Theres a lot of sense in what you say here

Kenny, Jimmy, Jerry. Huge contributions.

Josh, Marv, Grimmy all contributed well too.

And others of course.

Indeed but we were so weak in the middle of the park at the beginning of the season. When Dougall came in it all clicked. His ball winning allowed the rest of the team to play.

From who? I post on here often and I've not seen a lot?

Kenny is a very very good top end League One player. He isn't a Championship player.

Appleton in particular and McCarthy took so many players backwards it’s actually staggering. The only player that didn’t seem to struggle under them was Jerry.
To be fair to them, if recruitment doesn't work out, and all you're left with square pegs that you need to hammer into round holes, there's only so much the gaffer is going to be able to do.

The Norburn signing has helped him enormously, he’s now not on his own in midfield.
Just as he paired well with Stewart and Wintle. I think Kenny is neither a DM nor an AM, he is a bit of an all rounder. The balance has to be right in midfield obviously, and we didn't get that right last season. To be fair to MA, he had to make do with Bridcutt as a partner for Kenny and he was never fit. MA didn't fancy Kenny from early on though, iirc. Didn't fit into his way of thinking, probably because of him not fitting as an AM or a DM.

So far, I feel Norburn hasn't been as effective as Stewart or Wintle, who were both quality, tbf. But he's pretty decent as this level. I'm wondering which of our current squad would be comfortable in the Championship though, and I think not many, at the minute. But some are young and improving. Casey, Kouassi for example.

And we still need to work out a good balance in midfield, not quite working yet. Kenny and Norbs are developing a good understanding but we need to merge a third midfielder in, and we need to be able to interchange players cos nobody will play every game. Feels to me like we have ironed out the roughest edges in th other areas of the team - back three, wing backs and front two - but the midfield harmony hasn't come together yet, only very partially.

I think, apart from Kouassi growing into his role, and Joseph getting fit, the main area remaining for improvement now is the midfield. It's starting to function better but it's not there yet and we have players who can make it better. It's been a slow clumsy process putting the team together this season in my opinion, but at least we are improving and should continue to do so, unlike last season when we just kept getting worse.

Agree 100% with that LA1. IMO he got to a stage where he didn’t look interested at all and I remember posting on here at the time how he was avoiding tackles.
What a transformation under a new manager so just goes to show how important the bond between manager and players is.
So any Critchley critics should just look at how all the players have upped their game, and, more importantly, seem to be enjoying life under Critchley.

Dougall struggles with the pace of the championship where he is hurried and rushed a lot more.He is a lot more effective at this level with that extra few seconds thinking time.
All players are more effective in a lower division, obviously. And he was fine in the Championship when the team was set up effectively, and he had players around him who were comfortable.

He may have been off his best last season but he wasn't terrible, but the year before, when we did well, Dougall was 15th in the championship for successful tackles per game, that's out of every player in every squad in the whole Championship. He completed almost double the amount tackles resulting in us regaining possession (61) than the next best in our squad (Ekpo 32) and was our top assister as well. For me though, it's his work out of possession that is his major strength, his reading of the game is outstanding, a bit like Keith Southern's was. In the right team, playing him to his best, he's every bit a championship player.

Wasn't left foot right foot though was it? 😉
its all a bit subjective i suppose. but as we have been in so many finals its quite a choice. could some bright techno fan put a compilaton together and not forgetting the 1948 and 1950 cup finals . but his goals were pretty decent.

Although they did their best by dropping him in favour of Lavery and playing him on the wing and such nonsense.
